Oh I know. My big Dutch oven was my great grandmothers and I had to fight my sisters for it lol. That was one of the pots she used for water bath canning in the outdoor kitchen. There was no rack for the bottom of course so she put river rocks in the bottom and sat the jars on those.

Our Dearest Mrs. Volife You did an outstanding job on your cast iron. They turned out beautiful. My cast iron collection is all purchased used, and some were in worse and horrifying condition and that's almost exactly how i get them back to being beautiful and useful and with a glass like surface. I just don't use the wire whisk attachment on the drill. I love cast iron. God Bless

What do you use to remove rust?
@anniekochera

Hi there. I use stainless steel scouring pads and green scouring pads. Do not use the type with soap imbedded in them, just plain ones. The soap will not go well with cast iron. I also use kosher salt and a paper town to scour them as well. I scour them until i don't see any more rust. I do the oil last, when they're all done. I hope that helps. @@snookie65

I see that my prior reply is not showing on the screen, so I'll reply again, hopefully it goes through this time! I use stainless steel scouring pads, green scouring pads, and Kosher salt with paper towel to scrub. I scrub and rinse with water, dry with towels that you don't mind throwing away someday, dry in oven, and repeat as necessary. Do not use the scouring pads that are embedded with soaps or detergent or cleaners, the cast iron doesn't like them. I use oil last and do a final baking it in to season. I hope that helps, God Bless@@snookie65

I inherited a cast dutch oven. It was used to boil water on a wood stove. Took months of care to remove all the pits and rust. My favorite piece now…

I also thought you were supposed to get all the rust off and go down to bare metal to get through rust in those spots before oiling.

Great video :) A few litle questions - Why do you season the outside of the pots and pan? Is the oven 500o for everything? Do you keep the pot/pan iin the oven 40 to 50 mins each time? Thank you :) I have a few frying pans that need to be reseasoned :)
@lifewiththevolfies

40 to 50 minutes each time at 500. I seized in the outside of the pan to protect it from Voice you're when cleaning.

I'm totally confused. I have always been told not to oil over any rust as it will cause uneven seasoning.

No I was cleaning the rust powder off with the oil. If you noticed by the time they went in the oven, no rust was showing on the paper towel that I wiped the oil off with.

Beautiful job hun. You baked yours at 500 yes? I was always told 250 for 2 hours. Have you ever done that? I have 2 pots and 3 pans with lids and it seems no matter what I do the small 8 inch pan, everything sticks. All the rest of them are great.

I just put them in the woodstove or camp fire and burn the rust off. You do have to wait until the fire is out and they cool down because they can be hot enough to set your hot mits on fire. BTDT, won't do it again!😂
