Me too. I wasn't convinced you'd be able to restore the outer box convincingly especially with its texture, but I'm pleased you proved me wrong! Now, I have an identical box from my Omega Seamaster in a similar condition which needs the same treatment! Thing is, can I pull it off?!!

There is just a little more love in the world today!!!! I have this exact same box. It started to deteriorate the same day I bought my Speedmaster. I’d almost resigned myself to the fact that it would never be nice again. I rationalized that it had “patina”. Now, I see that it can be restored. I love you, my brother, even more. Your passion for your work is inspiring.

Master Joe can make things look easy peasy afternoon of fun.... not a chance in the ten levels of hell would I risk touching my box and papers. That is what sets us apart, we can watch, enjoy and dream we can do stuff, HE on the other hand is the master for a reason, years and years of experience and knowledge. I'd be way to scared of playing around with mine. Bit if you do... lol be sure and post pics.

Joe, you are a restoration pioneer. The use of the packaging foam as an abrasive was brilliant. My only disappointment was that you didn't find a way to use your lapping machine in the restoration. Looking forward to the final episode with much anticipation. 😊

Yeah that gricks really helped me on my woodworking projects. I'm restoring some tables, but they're old and the tops are veneered so too much sand will go straight through, but that packaging tricks really helped with the bits where it was thinnest so i didn't get bald spots.😊👍

You Sir are an artist. I can't believe how well it came out. I have three older Rolex that only 2 came with boxes and one with papers. I found the right year boxes that were made in China. It really makes a difference. I hate buying fakes but I'll tell if anyone buys it. I put boxes in my car rear window to have uv light hits it and made it look ole and weathered. What a great job you did. Thank goodness the model number and serial numbers tells the information you would ever need. That's what is great about Rolex. Neal

Very impressive - I really enjoyed (as a painter myself) your paint selection, mixing, and application: I said "use the brush", not the applicator, when you began to apply the first coat, because I knew that was far more likely to be successful: and it was - but I just know I'd have made a real mess of this if I'd tried it.

I watch this channel because of the fabulous job you do when bringing the old and broken timepieces back to life, with your subtle, and often hilarious one liners and, your obvious flair for, bringing horology to KZbin, not to watch you refurbish a box, you seem to be straying, please consider going back to your previous very entertaining content. Thank you.

Great result! As others say I was surprised of how good it turned out. I have restored many older Omega boxes, the red ones from the 1960’s, the smaller ones. They often miss the inserts with the velvet covered metal stand. I bought red velvet, 0.5mm metal sheets and cut out copy’s of the stand and covered with the red velvet. Looks pretty good, specially of you give it some patina to match the rest of the box!

I’ve been fortunate enough to buy omega new. That is genuinely impressive. That box was for the bonfire. Keeping one of mine in the protective cardboard box has led to the case melting into whatever solvent was used to glue the cardboard and damaged the faux leather front. You have inspired me Sir. It doesn’t mean I’m going to do it - but I now know it can be done 😂

Stunned! From a fabric crafting perspective I would maybe make 2 suggestions to help having watched. 1. I would take a scalpel and shave the textured fibers a bit before painting. 2. For clamping look into wonder clips to hold fabric and soft materials in place while you work or glue them. Great job.

Nice I would have used a lower grit paper followed by a fine grit before the last coat of paint. When working on colour matching paint measure it by weight or volume in a small amount until you find the right ratio of paint you want. Before mixing a larger batch make a sample and let it dry first to check the color.

It turned out excellent. From my experience with classic car leather restoration where it's usually about patching up and rarely about full repaint try to experiment with a paint gun especially for the finish where a little haze can make it look much more uniform. There's also leather putty that allows you to be quite gentle with what details you want to cover and what to expose to prevent it from loosing the authentic feeling.

I had a tidy pair of results this week, a CCCP Time Golden Soviet Submarine with the anthracite dial and a NOS virgin Pulsar V102 Solar complete with box, papers etc. The CCCP Time is unusual in the company bought and had refurbished a ton of old Slava 2427 Soviet movements to be used inside the more modern case. Bloody big too, 45mm without crown diameter. The Pulsar is getting a new capacitor, works abs fine save the original cell is deader than a tin of old Spam, not a problem as I bought a couple of the cells last year from Cousins one for my now stalled V103 virgin NOS and the other a spare and the V102 is just a date only V103 so all going to be good :)
