Retro DIY suit | Vintage inspired CAPSULE WARDROBE | Carmen Miranda reveal | colourful sew style

Completing my vintage-inspired capsule wardrobe for my European trip feels like quite an achievement! This is the last garment in the Carmen Miranda suit and the final piece to sew in the original capsule collection. HOWEVER, I am planning to make a pair of trousers (possibly named the 'Grace' for Grace Kelly or 'Katherine' for Katherine Hepburn) and at least a couple of extra tops and blouses in the 3 weeks I have remaining, although time is getting very tight now. I can see myself finishing some hand sewing on the plane at this rate!.
I'm pleased with the jacket and like the way the complete outfit looks over all. I also think that it will go very well with the 'Julie' skirt so can't wait to try that combination.
I did have a couple of hiccups through the sewing project and had to come up with some quick solutions ... as always. So follow along with the making of this jacket!

I just love the outfit!! The buttons are perfect and I love them on the cuff too. What a beautiful outfit! As I makes a lot of my own clothes, I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing this elegant capsule wardrobe come together. What I have liked most of all though is that this series illustrates wonderfully well is that living a more sustainable life does not mean foreswearing beautiful things, a life of sackcloth and ashes or being limited to shapeless kaftans and patched dungarees (as per some old hippy stereotype), which so many sustainability detractors and even agnostics would have us believe.

Absolutely! That's my point exactly! You can just be you but 'behave' in a more sustainable way. When we started this adventure my husband categorically stated that he wasn't getting dreadlocks or wearing orange pants 🤣 Personally, I think that that stereotype does so much damage and can put off 'regular' people from living more sustainably as if it's a package deal!

I definitely think the outfit works better with the collar folded down. I might want to press that in place, though it looks as though the fabric is pretty well-behaved. Great call on the buttons. Gold buttons are so specific; can't help but feel militaria-ish on a red jacket. I love a rounded front on a bolero jacket - it feels the most correct to me.
