its a hayter kestrel bud. we had one on the farm top quality mower in its day better than todays junk. in fact i loved my parents kestrel so much that i've been looking for another for years for memories sake and i'm picking one up tomorrow in very very good condition ;o) they are getting harder to find the kestrels the harriers with the rear roller seem more common. nice job buddy. i love the older 70's 80's machines. i have an old mountfield emblem which i love, a mountfield m4 delux with grass box, countax sabre 19, hayterette 5hp and now the kestrel i think i'm happy with that lot ? ;o)

Hi Mower Man - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Lovely old Hayter. Many folk don't know that it was Hayter that invented the rotary mower. Legend has it that an engine, most likely a Villiers, was placed on a dustbin lid with a blade and wheels attached. Your mower is not a Hayerette, which was discontinued and then reintroduced due to demand. The Hayterette does not have grass collection but boasts a disc with 4 swivelling razor sharp blades. I have two, my Dad's 1969 model and a later one. The body is top class alloy, like yours, and has bearing wheels.
@MowerMan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! that's great info! I want a hayterette next!
@rodneysweetnam86533 жыл бұрын
@@MowerMan You could always buy a new one - a snip at £569!! The price reflects the quality considering the Hayterette is an 18 inch push mower with no collection. However, it is very light at under 30kg, has large wheels with bearings, a single lever height adjuster, the handle folds down and the wheels can be raised higher than the deck to ensure it can be carried in a car without movement. With it's heavy disc and four blades it is extremely manoeuvrable and ideal for cutting heavy long grass. You'd think I was a Hayter salesman!

2 great classic mowers there; both with the older (and best) Briggs and Stratton engines fitted. With regular servicing, they last a lifetime and can fully stripped and rebuilt. The Hayter is worth fully restoring, as they are very collectable and sought after. If the Champion deck is not worth restoring, then certainly try and rebuild/ restore the engine and remove any other good parts. Very interesting videos you do; please keep them coming.
