HD Remix wasn't that bad. You could change the sprites back to the originals (not the backgrounds though) and its netcode was fantastic. When it came out, there weren't many places or people in person to play with anymore, so playing online was great. The remixed music was better than any of the older remixes (like 3DO) and by the way, the version in this video was the beta, Ken was changed a lot in the final version. Also many versions before this had little choice when it came to arcade joysticks, but the Xbox 360 and PS3 had great ones. Unless you built your own for older consoles, the best you could get was the official Dreamcast stick. But even that was only as good as the lowest end sticks on 360.

@Silanda6 жыл бұрын
As good as it is, IMO they were a little lazy with some aspects of the Saturn port. Even if they couldn't have easily scaled all the graphics to account for the difference in resolution, they certainly should have done something about the character select screen. It's not so bad on Turbo, but plain Super has text cut off the sides of the screen. Sloppy and easily noticeable. Judging from other ports like Symphony of the Night on the Saturn, X-Men: CoTA on PC, etc, I guess the tools to automatically scale graphics without ugly nearest neighbour artefacts weren't readily available at the time. Some ports did manage it though.
@Darknight06816 жыл бұрын
Silanda that would require a rework of the graphics, and by this point most companies wanted to leave that element of the 16 bit era behind. Especially for games like this. Also for the above, the Dreamcast version is 640x480 with upscale visuals.

jgfjgfify there were numerous differences to the way the game played. The Turbo speeds were all slower for one. Guile has “CPS1” chains which no character was supposed to have in the newer engine. Chun Li’s upkicks were bugged, I think the MK one made her fall FAR slower than normal. Ken, Dhalsim, and Sagat gained reversal supers when they didn’t have one normally. Chun Li and Honda couldn’t “store” their charge supers on here either. Then there was the total absence of Q Sound stereo separation, but that was practically ALL ports until the Dreamcast and on.

I L♡VE the MS-DOS version of SSF2X/Turbo along with the CD soundtrack, it may not be as great as the soundtrack of the 3DO and FM-Towns versions but it's a nice attempt to refresh the soundtrack while offering something new, and it's miles better than the soundtrack of the recent versions. the AI however acts a little weird sometimes cause they cancel certain moves that they would do in any other version, and i also noticed that Vega/Balrog doesn't lose his claw after taking some hits. but the most interesting thing on the DOS version is that you can fight Gouki in some ocasions even if your using continues with Bison/Vega, though sadly Gouki's theme doesn't exist in the DOS version. Flaws aside it does play well and it's a nice package considering the DOS version apparently was fairly cheap when it came out, you could even send a mail i think, and they would send you a controller, though i belive it was a 4 button controller which is bad cause everyone knows SF2 works better with a 6 button joystick.

@Silanda3 жыл бұрын
In every way except that it uses ugly nearest neighbour scaling to scale the arcade's 384x224 resolution to the Dreamcast's 640x480. It's sharp looking, but it means that the pixel sizes are inconsistent when every pixel should be the same size. It makes the graphics look more blocky than they should, it shimmers in motion, and I honestly can't stand how that looks. Personally I'd take filtered scaling instead, as was used in HSF2 on the PS2, though not everyone likes that look either so YMMV. It should have been an option IMO. Vampire/Darkstalkers on the DC has the same problem. Before the emulated versions, every home release of SSF2T had its own issues. Even some of the emulated versions had their own issues.

When it was lauched, i just got out of the school bus, at the corner of my street, and went to the bar/arcade. Geez, right after me and my brother were there, they installed SSF2T. Man, can you imagine the hypeness, the curiosity, the misterious things like the new bar, new intro ? And the super combo commands weren't included, so we were blind for a long time after the commands were in game magazines here in Brasil. And i played the Dos version back then, i didn't have the perception, for me was a good game. Played the 3do version at a game rent place.... What a perfection (at the time). Now i just love my Saturn version here :) (for the game speeds, i don't like the frakking speedier turbo... I prefer playing on Turbo 1, which is a little faster than the SSF2, but 2 and 3 are unbeareable to me. The game is already difficulty, more speed only fck you...)
@RetroCore8 жыл бұрын
+Filipe Lana I know the hype so well. I was also visiting the arcades a lot at the time of release. It was an amazing time. The 3DO post was amazing too back in the day. It's such a shame that the 3DO controller is horrible to use. Playing it with a good stick though made the game so much better. I kind of agree with the s@eed settings. Turbo 1 is just right.
@ahuman98647 жыл бұрын
Ok firstly, if we're talking about the best SSF2T you have to take a few things into consideration. The first being display, input and hardware. The Saturn has the FM Yamaha Sound chip which is considered the best sound chip available pre 128bit era. Also, the Saturn architecture is mid 90's Sega arcade hardware lets not forget that, this means capcoms cps2 programming came right over. Saturn was the perfect platform. Also If you run a scart cable into a RGB converter into a CRT TV you will have SUPERIOR color and pixel!! Saturn version also doesnt lose any sprite animation. So, better sound and visual Saturn is the best home port. So what about controller? Well Saturn has 6 face buttons. Seriously, Saturn wins on all fronts.

What can I say apart from, I agree. Also the Saturn's resolution CPS boards resolutions are different but only slightly.

I've got the arcade version of this game on CPS2 hardware. Got two of them in fact. One is the tournament edition that allows 4 cabinets to be linked together for tournament style play. Who remembers that? Anyway, I would go to the arcade in my teenage years and would be able to stay playing this machine for hours without losing. Yes, that means I'm still better at it than you... lol!

Surprised the DOS version didn't make use of Mode X 320x240 graphics (though to be fair, that wasn't exactly a documented mode).
@221b8 жыл бұрын
The CP System II arcade board ran at a resolution of 384x224, so 320x240 would still have lacked in horizontal resolution and it would have had more vertical resolution than the game's art was designed for. It was possible to do 384x224x256 on a VGA card, but it would have been difficult to program, slower, and could have caused compatibility problems with some monitors.
@fnjesusfreak8 жыл бұрын
221b 360x224 may have been more viable. VGA monitors had to at least support a screen width of 720, so 360 doesn't seem like a stretch.

Isn't 224p the resolution of the SNES ports (and most of its games)? I think the Arcade games are 240pbut I may be wrong. Also HD Remix runs at 720p natively as far as I know, it's not 1080p. :)

Its the same music used to hyper street fighter 15th aniversary for ps2 and xbox. (Im disapointed with the HD REMIX version. Does anyone knows what kind of upright cabinet the CPS II used? I know it had to be a JAMMA, I mean Winners Don't Use Drugs, but was it a Q25? I remember seeing this game in some sort of OB50 which isn't upright.
@RetroCore7 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't matter as long as the cabinet had a Jamma interface. In fact, in Japan they don't use upright cabinets, they're all sit down style. I beleive most arcade cabinets are Jamma compatable and even if they're not you should be able to get a Jamma interface harness for them.
@jesuszamora69493 жыл бұрын

I had no idea there was a CD32 version. I always thought it was odd that Capcom never cashed in on this game on 16-bit consoles, I just assumed 3DO had some kind of console exclusivity deal at the time. Maybe the CD32 being compatible with Amiga games gave Commodore a back door on that one?
@shinkenji8 жыл бұрын
The PC version was the first version I owned at that time. It's also the version I played most. I am surprised that so much animation was missing compared to the original. I never noticed this back then. But I have to disagree with the arranged Soundtrack. I think the PC Version has one of the best SSFII arrangements. I especially like Cammys Theme in this version.
@RetroCore8 жыл бұрын
+shinkenji Yeah, I also remember running the PC version back in the day thinking it was arcade perfect but looking back it was far from it. The music is a mixed bag in my opinion but I guess that's just down to personal taste.

Personally I'd be tempted to give the nod to the Playstation version over the Saturn version as the play area isn't quite as cropped on the sides (still cropped though). That loading though... urgh.
@RedRanger20014 жыл бұрын
The downside of the DC version is that you gotta beat the game with Turbo and Super versions of all characters. After that, highlight Options, hold Y and push Start. Also, as for the PS1 version, you need to invest either the fightpad or a fightstick, since the regular PS1/PS2 controller is awful for fighting games...
@ashleyredacted35538 жыл бұрын
Dreamcast version with the proper dipswitches is the closest to the arcade original. It should also be noted that the 3DO version, for all it's positives, is missing the ability to play as the (mostly, with some slight alterations on some characters) SSF2 versions of characters via character select codes. There's also a version on the PS2 and Xbox on Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2, which COULD have been perfect if it didn't suffer from having really bad input delay.
