Great review man, thanks for testing so many platforms. Glad you picked the best color too! I wish the Retroid Launcher would let you set emulators on a per-game basis, so we could use Flycast for some games and Redream with others. For the bootup time, I actually don't turn the RP3 off at all, because sleep works so well. So I guess I just treat it like an Android phone or tablet in that regard.

@@OtomoTenzi PS1? Yes. Saturn? No- it's real hit and miss with Saturn. You can see in the video that Saturn Bomberman Fight!! ran sluggish, and Sega Rally was a bit choppy. I'm positive the system can play much better as Sega Saturn emulation matures in Android. - Check the emulators themselves for the file systems they support. If it's not supported you can always convert formats.

I think the most realistic solution would be to have our fingers crossed for a release of Linux, but there are currently no video drivers for the graphics chipset. The latency is due to the device using android, so other handhelds using it will have the same issue. That said, it's definitely on the playable side rather than being deadly noticeable like the astrocity mini v. That was deadly obvious.

Thanks for testing input lag. I've been waiting a long time for something with close to no input lag(compared to real hardware). I'm so sensitive to it and it saddens me deeply that we're still not there.

Well, I'm fairly sure the Analog Pocket has no more lag than original hardware because it's mimicking a DMG's hardware. On something like the RP3 here (or anything with RetroArch) the best you can do is to set up run-ahead, which this is probably powerful enough to do with the 16 bit stuff and below at least.

All videos on this channel are made with any free time we can spare (full time work, family etc) Re: the setting up, you can be glad to know that it's only a one time thing. Once it's finished you can sit back and actually enjoy the unit a lot more than many others in the same price.

So far we've only had a few Anbernic handhelds. If you mean vs the 353P, then we're getting the same sized screen even if it is 4:3 with bars at the side. You can change the aspect ratio to stretch if you want though. RG353P if you want lower input latency, plug and play, and only want 4:3 systems. Retroid Pocket 3 if you want a higher spec, newer systems like the PSP, and streaming from the PC. It's honestly an apples vs oranges choice.

So at this time what I’m doing is waiting for a solid budget handheld. I have the RG351mp, the RG351m, and I have two RG351V units. I love them all even though they have issues but for the most part they do what I want them to. So a few new consoles have come out and honestly I think it’s bette to just wait until there’s a really solid one that all the reviewers seems to think is the most recommended, and I truly believe that’s on the horizon as consumers voice what they like and don’t like about these products. In the mean time I plan on getting a Steamdeck because emulation seems to work the best on that console.

Maybe if you're training for a world record. I'm 6th on caravan mode for Donkey Kong, so I know it's important. I think it's a non-issue for playing old fighters by yourself, so if it's a device just for someone's bucket list of RPG's it's perfect, and if you're training to win it's unacceptable.

Did you listen to Taki Udons video about this console? If not, please check it out. Those are the better buttons that they know are better and couldn’t be bothered to install themselves. Edit: You can also play Shmups in vertical mode.

the buttons are not "known to be better." They are just a possible preference. My personal opinion; the pre-installed buttons on my Rp3 feel much nicer to use than my Rp2+ buttons anyway. Same with the dpad. So I dont even plan on changing them unless I am bored or decide to buy a second RP3.

The input latency is pretty bad. I know a lot of people don't care, but it makes games so much less responsive. I don't like that the next generation of handhelds will all be android based, similairly powered linux solutions don't exist.

With emulation there will always be at least a little latency, and on this device we'd say it's not really noticeable to the casual gamer. There's no doubt that it Linux were available it'd drive down them numbers though ;-)

This device is too weak for me. The Odroid Go Ultra and it's Clones will trump this thing in the next few months. Plus most of the PSP games you've tested play at full speed on the RK3326 line of handhelds. Good video through. 😐
