Worked at JCT 600 in the late 70,s who sold Rolls Royce, Bentley,s , Porsche and Ferrari. Everywhere Rolls and Bentley's used lead they rotted . Apparently it was down to not washing the flux from solder tinning with soapy water and solvent like panel wipe before applying the lead .The flux rotted the steel .Maybe the flux used for solder tinning is different these days and not acid based . Porsche sensibly recommended the use of inert epoxy primers and fillers . We also used Upol D filler which is reinforced with aluminium flakes for high adhesion across multiple substrates. Even today i still use Upol D after all these years because it never lets me down .

For someone who is particular about fabrication, handing over that role to someone else to do is a leap of faith. Hats off to you Nat for having faith that someone else can do the job to the same quality (or better) as yourself. I've watched that happen in a place where I work and he feels like he is going from a Rooster to a feather duster.

Hi Cal and Nat. Just catching up with my weekly dose of the excellent retropower uncut episodes and clicked on retropower allegro image search, and clicked on the fb image of the silver allegro render. To my surprise a couple of pics down in the related images bellow is a sketch that I’ve drawn of a Restomod Princess. I remember watching an episode with cal with a group of old cars and a Princess was one of them which partly inspired my sketch. Don’t know why my image came up in the search but wondered if you had seen it

For classic car wiper arms always get the wedgelok type, if possible, rather than the type that just clip on. The clip-on ones suffer from spline wear and the arms flap around, particularly at higher speeds, whereas the wedgelok type stay firm.

The engine on the Allegro seems rather forward of the front axle line. I'd love to see the weight and balance figures on this. A Quaife ATB diff will be an absolute must on this.
@byronmills595211 ай бұрын
The Honda underpinnings are virtually unchanged other than the rear floor being cut and shut to fit the Allegro wheelbase, therefore the engine is as forward of the front axle line as standard Integra Type R.

Ned, one of my unfavorite jobs on an E Type was anything to do with the rear brake pads- is there any way to open that access behind the seats to help that? Many E Type owners would run the rear brakes to ruin- only adding a couple of discs to the cost but lots of pain in the disassembly .

My question is, can anyone turn an engine into a sump if it was was not built that way by the factory. Eg. Let’s see someone had an early fiat spider. Wet sump. And u wanted to put in a Alfa bus so v6 but it’s to tall with the oil pan Could u switch to a dry sump so u had engine clearance and ground clearance Hope im wording that correctly
@rennkafer1311 ай бұрын
Some are easier than others, but yes, you can convert most any engine from wet to dry sump. All it takes is money and time.
