As someone who has always found the advice to look at everything in the thrift store extremely overwhelming, I’ve started just scanning the aisles for patterns, colors, or features I like. Also just having a list is so helpful as someone who used to impulse buy a lot when thrift shopping. (Also I am a mid/plus size person so shopping is sometimes hard in general)

I get the struggle of thrifting/shopping second hand … being a size that’s difficult to fit (apple shaped, no butt, no hips, big belly and shoulders!) actually helped develop my style… I’m a maximalist that loves the edge of street style. So mixing/resewing/up cycling “granny” finds with menswear from the thrift worked for me.

Yes, as a plus size beauty it takes so much more time and energy to find those good pieces, especially second hand😭 That is why those cheap online brands are so tempting, but I refuse to buy from them, I would feel way too guilty. But I also won't judge others for buying from them if they need to.
@katymaloney2 ай бұрын
@@haten4 Is it just me, or do plus size gals donate less? I'm thinking because it's already so hard to find anything cute, when we do buy clothes, we tend to keep them longer, or until they fall apart and can't be donated anymore.. They tempt you with cute styles for less, but then you get the clothes and they're terrible, definitely not worth encouraging unsustainable and unethical business practices...

In German cities it has become quite normal that people put stuff in front of their house in a box that says “zu verschenken” or “for free”. Since that is the case, I have rarely bought anything and my place and closet is overflowing with amazing clothes and other cool stuff 😂❤ I even have the superpower to find stuff that I or others need. When I find shoes that I like (which is rare), they are in 99% of all times new and my size 😅 Things I found just in time were also a fridge which just stood in front of my house, a bed table that I found right before I was sick in bed for 2 weeks, a French vintage fake fur leopard coat, etc. etc. etc.

@esikazemese2 ай бұрын
Well, if you get your color analysis done it is very important to see your hair color, because if you changed it drastically from your natural, it will change what colors are matching you. Becky's colors could be winter, but her hair is not natural anymore, so the palette she likes matches her way more. Also, to anyone who is worried that it's not the colors they like, makeup can change the whole face, so whatever color you like that would wash you out can be fixed with makeup :) That's why this concept is BS - but fun to try.

I had my colors done in the early 80s. Gave me the confidence as a 19 yr old to shop and wear what looked good on me, especially as a larger body type. Good clothes are expensive, and I wanted to get something that would last and make me feel good about my appearance! I'm a true winter, white, black, and gem tones. Autumn and spring colors make me look yellow and sickly. Hair color shouldn't play an overwhelming role. It's really about skin undertones. Becky really is an Autumn. The colors shouldn't be tested with the strip pallet that was shown. Large samples in each color group should be held up individually, and it is imperative that natural sunlight is the lighting source. In the end, it is truly what makes you feel good! ❣️
@aksez2u2 ай бұрын
I could have written this exact comment, except I'm a spring! 😊 Having my colors done by the OG Color Me Beautiful helped so many things make sense. Why didn't I look good in black when it was supposed to be everyone's basic? Why did I not like to wear my beautiful burgundy blouse with cool undertones? Why did I feel great in brown and ivory? And I 100% agree about the strips and pinwheels of color. It can be a fun tool, but if you're serious about it, you really need to drape each of those colors fully under your face for the effect.

I did this analysis with the help of ChatGPT as I didn't find anyone who does this in my state. Mainly did this cause I really want to find what kind of whites I can wear(neutrals) as not all whites were looking good on me. So for the past couple of years, I thought it was true autumn even though my clothes colors were kind always fell into the color of Summer or winter (yes my mom shopped for a long time). So when I was away from my home everything I was buying somehow didn't light me up as much as I remembered. Therefore, I started experimenting with color and then later with their different value and not far along I saw that shades of autumn do make me light up but I still look amazing in some of the blue blacks and deep reds. When I analyzed with ChatGPT I found that I fall in “Dark Autumn” someone who falls in autumn but is not truly autumn, like having one feature that leans into winter; for me, it was my deep black hair. So now I can use autumn colors and can combine them with winter’s as well.

I hand make as much as I can, but I do have to buy new a lot and customise to make it fit my body and personality. I’m from the UK originally, and I still desperately miss city second hand shopping, even rural second hand shopping was a lot easier than here.

Color analysis is helpful, but it’s not gospel. For myself, I do look “brighter” in cool colors. But I also noticed that my ash-brown hair, pale blue eyes, and porcelain skin is very low-contrast. I did an experiment where I tried on shirts with bold patterns (navy&white, black&cream, etc), then tried on shirts with more subtle patterns/one color (navy&mid-blue, gray&white, heathered colors). The low-contrast shirts worked much better. I wear whatever I like, but I do gravitate toward the more flattering colors because the overall effect is pleasing.

Becky - I think that color analysis might be WRONG. You can even look at those two pictures side by side and see that your face came ALIVE with those warm colors. Now I know photography can be tricky, so maybe the photos aren't comparable that way, but I would have never pegged you for a winter.

So someone give me the counterpoint to my counterpoint but I don’t see the mystique of renting dresses. 1. Sizing is so personal and in my experience sooo weird (my body seems to be made of many shapes that don’t get along) so I need to be someplace where I can try many dresses at once. Rental sites don’t allow for that. 2. So many times the price you pay to rent a dress is so close to the price you could find a new dress for if you find it on sale. So while my non-formal closet is made up of 99% second hand clothing, the formal dresses is so tough for me. What am I missing? The way I rationalize it to myself is that I AM Lizzy McGuire, outfit repeater and am happy to wear that dress for yearssssssss (like still wearing dresses I wore 12 years ago). But I’m open to someone selling me in how to make rental sites work bc I get such anxiety about waste and buying new. 🤷🏻♀️

Honestly, color seasonal analysis is BS. And imo a scam and a waste of money. It’s always based on what’s “flattering” which is a very outdated thing. They also never do your “analysis” in different Lighting and like color is sooooo relative to other colors and light conditions. There is of course artist color theory, so yeah it’s always good to know about contrast, color temperature, saturation, etc., that can be helpful to understand what colors suit you or how to use color in outfits, but color seasons are just very reductive and honestly problematic. But you don’t need for color in clothes to dictate your life. It’s so fun to play with color in clothes.

Someone once mentioned to me that, if you need an "expert" to figure out what colors look good on you the wast majority of people wouldn't even notice because they are not experts with some bogus certificate. I think that's a valid point because if a color really looks terrible on your, you yourself will absolutely notice and so will other people. Also, all these people can do is look at a color in relation to your face, so whatever the outcome is, it doesn't apply to your whole wardrobe. Only tops and outerwear (when closed) and maybe scarves ...

You all are such impressive ladies, sending love and hugs, bye!! 🥰😍💖🤍💕💜💜💜💜

I am genuinely so bored of these incessant “from the workshop floor” videos. This channel originally caught my attention for all the interesting DIY projects and home makeover type content. Those now very feel few and far between (YES, they’re still included but you can not deny that the workshop floor content is much more prevalent and overbearing!), and it’s just all these lengthy, chatty floor videos one after the other. And for all the “just scroll past” commenters sure to follow… As a subscriber of this particular YT channel, I think it’s important for them to understand what their audience subscribed for and what keeps them interested and tuned in week after week. We as viewers are their bread and butter, after all.

I have also been subscribed for years and years, and I like the from the workshop floor content. I agree, I miss some of the DIY projects, but it's also nice to see their channel evolve over time 😊
