My favourite garden is in a local 17th century island fort, which received saplings from all the trans-atlantic trade ships passing by its waters. It got some weird spiky trees and weird odd trees that don't grow anywhere near here, all are sheltered by the islands massive defensive earth and stone embankments. Funny thing is some poor soldiers got the thankless task of repainting all the centuries old signs one day long ago. Which they did. They retrieved all the signs, stripped them of their paint, rewrote the names of all the different plants and trees and informed their commanding officer that the job was done. "Excellent job. Now return them to their proper place." was the officers response. Yea... So now we don't know what half the plants are.
