Modern builders and what is referred to as today's craftsmen wouldn't even put 1/2 as much time, care, energy and tenacity into their work and most if not all, done by hand w/ homemade tools. The minds and bodies of the past were in many ways superior and internal pride and ethics were at the forefront and valued.

Deconstruction is always fun at first. The layout of the library looks good but you need some room for a stairway between floors. I would make the balustrade smaller so there would be some seating at the top of the library also with some cosy tables and a place to set your tea.

You and your team, Billy, are time travelers. You've put your hands on the very wood that craftsmen fashioned into walls during the 1700s. It's fitting that modern craftsmen are doing a sympathetic restoration and repurposing of the convent.

The library design looks fantastic. I do wish you had room or could incorporate a SPIRAL STAIRCASE into the design and make it truly one room connecting both floors together without leaving the room to access the second level of the library However I have confidence in your dreams and vision Billy. I think you proved yourself by the beautiful kitchen you created. Love ❤️ you and your family. Looking forward to what Michael will do with the Chapel ceiling. God bless you brother and your family ❤️

I have followed you (silently, no comments) for a long time and have enjoyed all that you are doing. I’m especially interested, though, in the library. Do you have plans for what books to put there? I’m an academic librarian by profession and putting together and organizing library collections is what I do (I also teach future librarians). Would love to learn more and if there is something I can help with, that’d be great.

I would have an internal spiral staircase up to the gallery. Welcome back Simon, you have been missed.
@procrastinatingnerd6 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. A nice iron spiral staircase somewhere would be cool. I also think they should expand the library to take the whole room (I think he said they were going to split the room up in the last video)
@Gregg294076 ай бұрын
Definitely a spiral staircase! That way, when you're in the downstairs portion of the library and need to go upstairs, you don't have to leave the room, walk down the hallway, take the stairs by the elevator, and take the hallway back to the library! Plus, a spiral staircase seems like a classy French way of decorating the room. :)
@marv802056 ай бұрын
I agree. Without a spiral staircase up to the gallery you will basically have two libraries. A first floor library and a second floor library. Hopefully the book you are looking for isn't on the opposite floor.
@chan.au246 ай бұрын
Doesn't the library already have the old oak stair case leading up there already? I prefer this one. A spiral staircase can be saved for the church gallery (if they are lucky to find one!)

I believe it's right next to the "modern" staircase with the lift shaft, so another stair case there might be a bit redundant. There is that outdoor spiral staircase in the courtyard I believe.

The library should have a staircase, like a spiral one to access both floors from within the room. I could imagine you planing down some of those interior wall oak beams and studs for a project. Hey Billy - oh my it’s going to be fantastic. Only thing I’d say is I think maybe a good idea to join access to the top and bottom library by putting in a metal/wrought spiral staircase. Then the lower bit could be a relaxing zone with wingback chairs and low tables, a cabinet for wines or single malts, and a couple of comfy sofas maybe. Then you have a space to go to after you’ve dined. I do feel cutting off access between the upper and lower library may be a mistake. The progress you and the chaps have made is staggering though and we always watch with keen interest! We love this channel - one of our faves!! ❤❤

The visualization is very helpful! I could see events happening in the dining room that spill over into the library for cocktails, for example. So, seeing the furniture in that room is helpful for scale. Also, I didn't see a staircase in that room, so knowing that it is just outside the door with the lift makes perfect sense. Such a beautiful, inspiring and bright space will be a great asset to that building.

A sturdy digging shovel would be great to use to remove the dirt and kindle wood from the walls. It would speed up the job, and could also speed up work when removing the tiles in the roof. You are all doing a great job! I love to watch this channel.

Billy you have a twinkle in your eyes which means you are happy!!! Onwards with the library and Simon is back!!! The library is going to be amazing just like the kitchen. You now have a complete team for the job with the best workers to be found!!!! Best.

Hello all, you are doing such a magnificent job at the convent. Just a suggestion for the gally of the library, your designer drew balustrades and, if not too expensive, it would be nice if they matched the balustrades on the main staircase.
@choochoo95066 ай бұрын
LOVE the idea of the balustrade having a very wide top on which one might place a book to review. Also, kudos to the designer to mostly matching the balusters with the design of the main staircase. Great job, Billy!! Hope you'll still be our main emcee! It's you I follow. 🙂

Wow! They built that place to last forever. I've never seen such genius building. Everything fitted into everything else. Not will nails, no, all done with pegs and the knowledge how to fit a puzzle together. The amount of rubble and dirt is enormous! You guys have a lot to do before anything building can resume. I was thinking you were going to put a staircase of some kind in there. But I like this way a lot. It's a beautiful design. This place is going to be amazing. That library will be wonderful. Forget the office furniture, you need comfortable chairs and maybe window seats! The green and oak design is gorgeous. Would you consider keeping a corner of the convent as a museum? Show the 1970s cheerful cell next to an austere 19th century cell….maybe a room stripped down to its 250 year old carpentry too. This history is so fascinating to me: the lives of the nuns, the craftmenship of 200 years past, the ancient wood etc. I see how you too revere the history of the lives lived in the convent including those that built it.
