Incredibile work, I didn't think was possibile weathering an all black aircraft! I remember that the"Fling Pencil" was intended as a stop gap until more efficient "nachtjagers" (JU88 & He219) came in action
@jerryrip4 жыл бұрын
The earlier versions of the Do 17 were much thinner and so they were the models that earned the nickname "Flying Pencil". These later versions like this Do 17Z and the Do 215 had deeper frontal sections and made them appear heavier.

I have ICM's Finnish Do 17Z which has the parts for this, and have been seriously considering completing this version and donating the Finnish decals to another project. This aircraft is fitted with the, "Spanner II," IR system. The IR-balanced spotlight in the nose is reflected from a target aircraft back to the sensor in the windscreen in front of the pilot. Radar was found to be much more effective, but this was among the first FLIR systems to be used operationally.

@KJ-kn8pg4 жыл бұрын
I mean, he surely is better than them but they need not to weather too much the models... This is why Dusan 's models are so nice because they got realistic weathering effects. Ww2 aircrafts were weathered. When they build them for box arts the model needs to look like it came right out of the factory which isn't my taste... I hope you understood now!

the one thing that really ticks me off is the fact that model companies make historically accurate kits of second world war Luftwaffe aircraft and miss out the swastika decals for the tails . history is there to remind us of what happened , if people find it offensive , so much the better , that is how we learn not to repeat the failures of the past .

Could I request that you try building the Macchi C.205 Veltro in 1:72 scale. I'd be interested to see this build and wonder if the left wing will be slightly longer than the right wing. A feature of this plane they added when they upgraded from the C.202 Falgore which had spin issues due to the short wing span and torque it could produce. Im sure you would make an awesome color scheme for it as always. Your works the best I've seen.

I've seen some pics of Kauz from NJG2 and it seems they had regular RLM70/71 pattern on upper sirfaces, while black paint was used ad a replacement for RLM65 coated surfaces
@wasrio14033 жыл бұрын
That may have been the case but the RLM adopted black as the early night fighter colour. It was used on all night fighters in early night fighting forces.
@52down3 жыл бұрын
@@wasrio1403 Yeah, you can find both overall black Do-17s and half black and half camouflaged. Sadly I haven't found R4+LK so far, but there are pics of the R4+HK and R4+ZK, that have 70/71 camo on upper surfaces. These two however were Z-7s. R4+EB (another Z-7) was black overall. I found some pic of Z-10 at Gilze-Rijen, but it's callsign is not visible, tips of the spinners are very bright (probably white), one panel under the nose IR illuminator is bright aswell (maybe left in RLM 65) and wing leading edges are a bit brighter, but this could be also a sun flash I'm keeping an eye on these birds because I have this exact kit in my stash awaiting it's turn. The second scheme is documented on photographs, so it's sort of emergency exit if you wanna 100% accurate miniature

Is this a re-boxing of the Italeri kit? I had the Italeri kit. They made kits of other Dornier DO-17 variants. I cannot remember them all; however, with two, I had brought a second of each, because from my research, I had learnt that one could swap the parts comprising the engines and cowling to create yet a third and a fourth variant.
@dewygreen4646 Жыл бұрын
As far as I know, Italeri always produced Dornier 217 (bomber or nightfighter version), never 17. This Revell's kit is a rebox of ICM's one.
