Review: 10A, 30v Power Supply, Low Cost, Longwei

Quick review of the Longwei 10A, 30V low cost power supply. If you are going to do electronics you will need a variable power supply. This is a new one I bought to cover expanding needs.

Excellent review. It was very helpful. By the way, the "squirly" connector that came with the power supply...that's the style of plug we use in Australia.

I kinda remembered that but was not sure. I've been to your country twice on business but it's not the electric cords I remember best. That would be the friendliness of the people, holding a koala, and seeing a herd of roos grazing on the golf course.

Looks like you’ve got a good and low cost little unit there. Hope it holds up for you! I know you’ll be taking it apart (if you haven’t already) to see how well it’s made and the quality of components. Congratulations on a nice purchase!! Since I’m not working with electronics as you do, what might a home DIY try to fix it before I throw it away guy do with something like that? Check little motors to run or what else? Perhaps you’ll say I don’t need one if I’m not into electronics and don’t read electronic schematics? I just like having the tool available in case I ever need it - haha. Thanks for the video. I’m always interested in the stuff you do and go to the trouble to put a video up for us to enjoy and learn from!

tsbrownie Sorry. Neither, I was thinking of getting one just in case I needed it. But since I don’t do electronics (except to solder very infrequently), I probably don’t need one. I think you know how it is. We go into a store and say “that’s looks cool, think I’ll get one because I may need one someday - haha.

Yes, I understand that well. I've used mine for electronics obviously, but also to power holiday lights, test bulbs, test and operate (temporarily) battery operated appliances, charge batteries (gel cells, car/motorcycle batteries, etc), and so on. If this one holds up, it's very good for the price.

This wont work trying to revive a dead 12V battery wont it? Trying, but not giving any current or just 00.0043 etc

With most dead batteries, the chemical reactions have gone too far and are irreversible. It's dangerous to try to force it.

thanks for the very thorough review. I bought one of these units as a power source for a plexiglass bending setup. I'm unsure how to set the selector switch on the back. If I slide it left, it reads 220, but I think I'm now set on 110, and vice versa. Is this right? If they'd printed the voltage on the housing it would be perfectly clear. Thanks in advance.

I can't speak to the model you own, but on mine the 110-220 is printed on the slider and you can only see the selected voltage - the other voltage is hidden.

it would be useful if sb could explain how to set amperage for a device to charge, no one reviewing this power supply is eager to explain, my guess is that they dont know how

I'm not sure I understand. The lower knob on the power supply limits (but does not "set") the max amperage. That might be OK for some lead acid types of batteries, but for other batteries that need constant charge amps, it's not the right tool for the job. There are inexpensive charge controllers (especially easy to find for lithium batteries) that do a great job of providing the right combination of voltage and amps, and most do it cell by cell for best outcome.

When you want to set current limit, first turn the lower knob all the way down, then set the desired voltage. Then short the leads! (Those should be tick) When output leads are shorted, you can set the upper current limit by adjusting the lower knob. Shorting the leads won't burn the supply. It is designed to be operated like I described.

Are you using it in current limited mode? You can tell if the red current light is on target than the green voltage light.
