But this time, he lost the battle against the others so he couldn’t set up the master timeline again. The after credits references the TVA as well. It would explain why all the other Kang’s turned on him. He kept saying time works differently for him. What if every Kang knows his whole timeline, and remembers being betrayed in the first Kang war, and came back after Loki and Silvie killed HWR Kang at the end of time.

Believe it or not, I worked on this film and yes a lot of the backgrounds were blue screen, as are most of the marvel films, but you might be surprised as to how much of the sets were actually made - with Jentora and the ‘drink the ooze’ scene, most of the huts were actually there and then the ‘ships’ were sculpted full-size and then animated. The ‘cantina’ scene again, it was an enormous set and the only bit that were vfx was the background. When they said the man looked like broccoli, he spent about 5 hours in prosthetics to become ‘broccoli man’ and then all of the others spent nearly as log!

I also found the "arrogance was his downfall" trope a bit overused in this one. BUT, when Kang got his suit back and didn't just flick Janet out of the way and leave, I thought it was more because he had actually grown to genuinely like her. That just added a whole other interesting layer to his character; he's willing to kill timelines, but will still save his "friends"

Those "big 3" Kangs you were talking about are actually specific Kangs from the comics. The "wizard" one is Immortus, the most powerful version of Kang (who is evil as opposed to He Who Remains). The "tech" one is either Iron Lad or Silver Centurion. And the "Egyptian" one is Rama Tut, the very first appearance of Kang (from the Fantastic Four comics, before he debuted later in the Avengers as Kang the Conqueror)

@Lokear

I agree with the New Rockstars take: Janet was fine with sending him in for a few seconds to a specific spot, possibly far away from Kang's reach. Then, when they got blipped, Scott went into a time vortex by mistake, which could also have helped him evade Kang. Still, if that's how it fits in, they should've explained it in-universe.

Sending a person to a specific layer (probably one that is above Kang's) is different than sending a signal to map all the layers. A person can't be traced back to origin, unless you know where to look as they enter. A signal that is sustained and probing deeper and wider was going to draw attention. That was the problem.
@vaapad1HS
@vaapad1HS Жыл бұрын
My take on it is that at the time they send Scott inside, Kang the conqueror doesn't exist in the Quantum Realm yet, as Endgame hasn't happened, therefore Loki hasn't been captured by the TVA, therefore the Sacred Timeline is still intact and the only Kang that exists is He Who Remains. When He Who Remains is killed, the multiverse begins to exist once again, and Janet sort of retroactively has these experiences with Kang filled in. Time travel messes with story continuity and now my head hurts lol
@ARIEZKAGE
@ARIEZKAGE Жыл бұрын
@@vaapad1HS I second this take. That explains why the very first scene shows Kang crash landing into Janet’s camp. Originally Janet is just alone, but the stuff with the One Who Remains actually effects the timeline of the MCU as we know it. Maybe later on it’ll be explained (like in Loki s2 where they start hunting down Kangs that randomly pop up across the multiverse)

See, I liked what they did with Cassie for several reasons. The main one being, no progression, not even a character arc, should be just a straight line. I like that his relationship with his daughter is the most important thing in the world to him, and partially for his fault and partially not, it's gotten rocky. He had a set-back; there is more work to do. Their relationship is evolving and that's not just a line from "we were basically great" to "now we're even better." I think it's a good reminder that parents don't just completely control their kids, that a parents wanting to have a good relationship with their kid doesn't mean the kid wants all the same things they do. Also when he talked about all the missed birthdays I had thought he meant jail, but you're right, Quantum zone was another.

57:49 It seemed pretty clear to me that the reason why the council of Kangs saw Kang Prime’s death as noteworthy was that it meant that the Avengers were now getting familiar with the multiverse, so much so that they killed a Kang, which now threatens the council’s hold over their respective universes.

Well, Scott is responsible for the time heist idea and for 2012 Loki escaping in Endgame. It's sort of perfect that after the events of the Loki series, Kang would run into Ant Man and co next. They even had Mobius and Loki tracking a Kang variant in the post credits.

I watches it opening night and I cannot help but wonder why this film ended the way it did. Scott and Hope actually beat Kang and escape?! The stakes felt so high, I thought it was going to be a really powerful sacrifice that even if they didn’t die they were going to be stuck in the quantum realm until Cassie or Shang Chi or Captain Marvel or whoever comes to rescue them. This decision has really damaged the potential future stakes for Kang Dynasty now, we’ve already seen Kang lose to Antman and Wasp. I really expected to come out with an Infinity War esque feeling after watching Kang actually succeed and the mid/post credit scenes did not do enough heavy lifting on that Also why was Scott doing the opening narration? That would have been perfect for Luis to do

They beat one Kang, and just barely. That was the point - to show how tough a single Kang is and then in the post-credit show you thousands of them, which is setting up the next Saga. I do wish Luis would have done a recap in a post-credit scene, but the bookending of Scott and his paranoia about whether he doomed everyone in the end was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this and thought it did its job well, both as an Ant-Man film and as the start of Phase 5.

@@lukasart3951 Except that he really was barely defeated. He lost because he had to fight hundreds of man-sized (and larger) ants, which he was close to winning against, but was then attacked by MODOK, which he still survived. Then he got into a fist fight with AntMan, which he won, and only lost because he had no long range attacks against someone who did. I agree that its weird that he lost with the resources he had (He had thousands of army members, several ships, and laser defense mechanisms, and all of that was gone from just the main five and their cavalry of randoms; Even for me thats a bit of a stretch), but it still was not an easy battle for team Ant Man. Had MODOK, the ants, or Hope not been there, it would have been an easy victory for Kang, and even with all of these attackers, he was still close to winning. So, TLDR, I get that his empire worth of resources kinda just vanished into thin air, but even with that conveniently happening, team Ant Man barely won with all the things they had. So I would say, myself, that he was barely defeated. (Sorry for the long paragraphs XD)

I had a very similar epiphany when I saw what I think was some flashback scene with Kang, and the camera panned over to his civilization which looked suspiciously close to the landscape of the TVA in that one scene in Loki where they look out a window and see the entirety of the TVA. Also Mobius says that time works differently in the TVA, just like how the Quantum Realm is disassociated from time and space, so I asked myself, "Does Loki and the TVA take place in a section of the Quantum Realm that Ant-Man just didn't stumble open?" It would also makes sense because Kang has now taken over the TVA.

I thought the same thing. In fact, I mentally flashed back to something He Who Remains said about being alone in that Citadel at the End of Time for so long. Then I thought, if Kang the Conqueror was just shrunk down to an unknown level of the Quantum Realm, perhaps he then creates the TVA from there and decides to end the coming multiversal war a different way. Then, as dangerous as he was, he's also strategic. And over time, being alone for millennia, he became *He Who Remains.* Then, when Sylvie kills him, it all starts over again and he is *Kang the Conqueror.*

I think the main Kang from the movie isn't necessarily the "scariest" one as the mid-credits made it very clear that all the Kangs are a threat. It seems that the other Kangs banished this one because he is actually one of most good of the evil Kangs. He knows that the war will end with the end of the multiverse, so he was set on destroying their timelines to protect the multiverse from collapsing (at least that is what he said in the movie). He was banished before he could finish the job as the multiverse is extremely big. We know one of him ends up in charge of the TVA, and it would feel weird to get rid of the conqueror version so early, so I wonder if he runs the TVA in Loki S2 since it could take place after Ant-Man 3 and the TVA kind of do what the ant-man Kang was trying to do in a sense.

After sticking with the MCU through the Infinity Stone Saga, Phase 4 left me very disappointed. It was clear Disney rushed into production without thinking about what they actually wanted to do, solidified even more by Phase 4's abrupt ending and lack of proper finale. Quantumania is following the same footsteps - a mediocre flick that exists solely to set up other MCU flicks. Phase 1-3 actually had good films, it wasn't just about setting up the next Avengers. But Phase 4, and thus far Phase 5, feels like little more than set up for the sake of set up - and a buttload of cash. I hope others can enjoy the MCU moving forward, but for me, this is where the road stops for me. I'll probably check back on what came out once the Phase comes to an end, and I'll still go and see GotG 3, but other than that, I'm not wasting anymore money in theaters on this mediocrity. I pused through Phase 4, hoping the quality would get better - and it never did.

I think that Ben hit it on the head. When you are thinking there is going to be a continuous setup for a huge story, some of the recent MCU films are not as good. When you look at movies like Quantumania for an "Ant-Man" movie, then the enjoyment level goes way up. Sometimes knowing all of what is upcoming takes some of the surprise out of things because it's like, oh there is a sequel of this one coming out, so the stakes aren't quite that high.

I just saw the film today, and I loved it. I think after Infinity War and Endgame it can be hard to keep the individual films separate and not see it on the same scale as those two films. The main Kang in Quantumania was actually killing the other Kangs to stop them affecting the timeline so he'd be the only one, hence he's exiled. I feel like this was the perfect setup for the Phase 5.

THIS!!! People are expecting every movie to be Infinity War/Endgame, but if every movie were like that we would get bored. Antman is a fun superhero movie that gives us some information to start the phase, but people expect way too much and are mad that this one movie isn't giving us all the answers!

I disagree that Cassie is unlikable -- I found her to be the most relatable. I have a difficult relationship with my dad because he's been absent a lot. She is HURT, and hurt people hurt people. They shouldn't, but they do. In Scott's case, it's not his fault, I know. But she can be hurt about it, even if he didn't do it on purpose.

Scott made a comment about how time moves differently in the quantum realm. They never said how long they actually spent in the Quantum realm in Earth time. Also, Janet was down there for “30 years,” was this in Earth time or Quantum realm time?
@FrigginNerdsMedia
@FrigginNerdsMedia Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that it all depends on if you have fallen through a time vortex...which operate separately within the quantum realm. When Scott was in the quantum realm, he went through a time vortex, which is why he lost all those years. The ants from this movie also went through a time vortex. Janet, however, didn't go through a time vortex so she aged normally. So, long answer is that Janet's time spent in the quantum realm was equal to her time spent away from earth.

I didn't feel like the Ant-Man dynamic meshed well with the stakes of this movie. This also seemed like a chance for them to set up Kang as someone we should be terrified of, and he came across as kind of pathetic in the end.

13:17 I could be that it's not physical possible to make pym partials in the quantum realm. Like every thing is a bit screwy, so maybe whatever hank did to make pym particles just doesn't work or can't happen within the confins of the quantum realm.

I dont think that this kang was necessarily the "worst" or most "powerful " kang and that's why he was exile it was more he was the one willing to kill other Kangs and universes because he thought that was the way to prevent the multiverse from imploding and still have a kang in charge..but the other Kangs obviously didn't like it that and they don't care if in the future the multiverse will implode so if anything that makes them worse. Now that this kang will probably mix with the core, he might be the most powerful though..idk It is also interesting that the other Kang from Loki actually experienced what Quantamania Kang is trying to prevent and so was also trying to prevent the multiverse from imploding by creating the TVA to prevent other Kangs from rising.

I enjoyed this movie, but I agree with you when Bill Murray came on the screen. All I could think was Bill Murray is in this movie playing Bill Murray. I never believed he was a character. I thought this Kang might have been exiled because he wanted to do bad things to save the universe, whereas the remaining Kangs actually want to do bad things and destroy it. I kept wondering if killing him would turn out to be a mistake. It would make for an interesting twist if they went this way. The Kang actor is just amazing, and his ability to portray so many Kangs is amazing. Scott also said something similar to Dr. Strange when fighting Kang. He said I don't have to win, we both just have to lose. I was e pectong a quantum loop, but it didn't happen. Not sure if that will be important later or not, but it was a nice throwback to Dr. Stranges's origin movie.

Could it be possible at the very end when they back home, that their home is not the home they left? I had a strange feeling when watching the end that things felt off, that in actual fact they returned home to a different timeline? I cant even really explain further because I cant really think what could have happened to make the timelines switch unless its just something that happened when you leave the Quantum Realm, like you can create a portal out but you risk what timeline you return too? I don't know. But the coffee shop owner who asks Scott for money when he never asked before. (Also was the coffee he brought expensive? In most parts of England that would cost about £3-4, but he charged him over $7, is that weird?), people acting different as he's walking to and from the coffee place. It just doesn't feel right. Still really enjoyed the movie though! Thought Kang was amazing and I can not wait for the rest of the MCU, especially if my theory is right lol. :)

i think the main thing that frustrated me about janet was, on top of the character never explaining anything and acting like it was her allies' fault they didn't understand, that michelle pfeiffer gets out-acted by every single one of her scene partners. this isn't a diss at her, i love her in a lot of movies, but next to paul rudd, jonathan majors, and the rest of this cast, it just felt like she was CLEARLY the weak point in every single one of her interactions. i generally really liked this movie - it's not my favorite mcu projecy, but it was fun, entertaining, and officially introduced kang into the movies if nothing else - but janet was definitely a really frustrating centerpiece in an otherwise solid film.

What if, in Harry Potter, Harry as a horcrux obtained the ability to devour horcruxes? Specifically the soul piece in them to strengthen/impower himself. Would he actually be reconstructing Voldemort's soul or would he be becoming more than just a man by strengthening his own soul? If you become less of a human be dividing your soul, what would happen if you added or strengthened your soul? Would Harry become like a demigod if he devoured most of the horcruxes?

I think Kang was telling the truth about the future because he was a time traveller who went to the "End" and saw what the Multiverse War causes to happen and he decided to eliminate them from the multiverse. All Kangs are from the 30th century future so that will take multiple massacres in many places, in both time and space. This would be a daunting task for anyone, but for Kang, it is a calling, a sacred mission that must be carried out by him, savior of the multiverse.

It seems to me that I lot of the things that disappointed me about how Kang was treated at the end of Quantumania could have been solved with *three simple words.* As Kang is going into the blast of that circle thing, if he had shouted, *"See You Soon"* that would alleviate the is he/isn't he alive and it would have kept the abject danger of his existence hovering over the MCU. There could also be a 5 second moment after we see the Counsel of Kangs where we see a tiny Kang the Conqueror in an even deeper version of the Quantum Realm and he splits in two the way Scott did. They look at each other and we, the audience, don't know whether they will keep duplicating and kill each other, if they'll all work together, or if the main Kang will triumph and get out of there.

I want to know what your guys take is on this: did Kang destroy and consolidate all the timelines in one multiverse or in all the multiverses? Actually I guess what I’m really trying to ask is are we to understand that each multiverse has their own set of timelines with infinite variants OR are we to understand that each timeline has their own set of infinite multiverses OR do these movies use the terms timelines and multiverse interchangeably? In Loki they definitely stuck to timelines and variants, in DR Strange they stuck only to multiverse. But in Quantamania they were definitely using both terms and it got hard to track. His chariot seems to be able to traverse both timelines and multiverses…
