Hi Marc. I recently purchased a Ceado E37S from you and I hope you can help me with some advice. After watching this video I started doing my own experiments on the grinder. At 3.3 seconds I am grinding 9.2 - 9.9g of coffee. I have used two different coffees, one fresh roasted and another a couple of weeks old. I am getting 1/2 of the output that you are. I like the grind quality - it is light and fluffy with no clumps and falls in the portafilter perfexctly. In addition, moving the lever to change grind size is extremely difficult. It is hard to make a small adjustment to the grind size in either direction because it is so difficult to move. Further trying to reduce grind size is almost impossible todo smoothly and have the grinder running at the same time as it takes two hands to hold the grinder down, adjust the lever and run the grinder to clear old grind when reducing. I have ordered the Quick Set upgrade, but it has been back ordered again to 6/28. Without it, this grinder is just not really usable. I feel like I should have gone to an Atom 75 or something similar. I hope you have some advice that can help. Thanks in advance, Marc.

I purchased an E37S too in February from WLL and I have the same compliants. The grinder does a nice job, but different beans based on the roast requires changes to the grind. It’s close to impossible. Also, the grind and dispense speed is not as advertised.

Hi Trip, I wonder if your static control flap is out of whack. It's a piece of aluminum at the end of the chute out of the grinding chamber. Might try bending it slightly to allow a more open path out of the grinding chamber. Under 3g/sec is slow unless you are grinding finer than normal for espresso. I have not had issues with levers becoming difficult to move. If you were grinding extra fine and/or had some back up in the chamber some coffee and/or oils may have worked up into the adjustment. It's well sealed but I guess it could happen. If that's the case it would need to be cleaned up. Marc

Thanks, Marc. Do you access this flap from the grinding chamber or through the chute?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 5 жыл бұрын
Trip Pollard You’re welcome. You will need to remove the top burr plat assembly. The 3 screws and the whole thing comes off. After that, the flap is held on by a single screw above the chute. You should be able to bend the flap out a bit without removing that screw if you can get a tool down towards the bottom of the flap. Could also go at it with a tool from within the grinding chamber to push out a bit and then use a bent paper clip or similar to hook underneath and pull out. Idea is to open the flap for less restriction of grinds exiting the chamber but not too far so they fly out uncontrolled. Hope that helps. Let me know how it goes. I’m out of office now till next week but could take you through a deeper cleaning of size adjustment mechanism if needed when back. Marc

Hi Randy, As mentioned in the video actual grinding speed can vary a bit. It will change with grind size - coarser is faster, finer is slower. Also as mentioned in the video grind size is not set and forget. It most definitely will need adjustment when beans type, roast, etc changes - even with the same beans as they age. Marc

Marc, @ 5:30 in this video you mention that the disc has magnets allowing you to move the disc so you can essentially set your zero mark. My E37S that arrived yesterday came with a sticker that once adhered can no longer be moved. Is this a change since this video was made or is mine missing the magnetic part? The WLL videos are indispensable, thanks for continuing to present such useful content in a fun informative way.

Hi Marc. Thanks for all of the great videos. They are very educational and I find your assessments very balanced and free of bias. I have read about how wetting the beans can lead to rusting of burrs -it was offered as a reason for the Ceado single dosing grinder having titanium burrs. How much of a concern is this in your experience. Keep up the fantastic work.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi SKM, Thanks for the kind comment and question. There's a very low risk burr rust. When coffee is ground it removes the relatively small amount of moisture added and coffee does have some oils so that coats the burrs as well. That said, there is zero chance of rust with the titanium treatments. This might be beneficial in extra humid environments. Marc

Thanks great video. Though I wish the versatility range of these machines was talked about more. This the E37s go fine enough for Turkish and course enough for french press?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gavin, You are welcome and thank you for the comment and question. The E37S can go to Turkish fine and coarse enough for press. I should mention it is more of an espresso specialist. One limitation of the Quick Set Gear is the amount of turns required to make major changes in grind size. A better option if one is changing grind size a lot for different brew methods is the Ceado E37SD. It's a single dosing grinder with titanium burrs and essentially zero retention. The QSG on that grinder has a release which disengages the worm gear allowing for rapid large adjustments in grind size. Check it out here: www.wholelattelove.com/products/ceado-e37sd-single-dose-coffee-grinder Marc

What is a good grind setting for espresso..? When we set it at 1.5 (pulls good shots) however grinder seems to not grind after pulling a few shots. We have to go back to a coarse setting and than go back down to good grind and it locks again…? What’s going on? What are we doing wrong…?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi ov, Can't really give you a precise grind setting that's good. Best grind setting depends on variables like amount of coffee used, coffee type, age, etc. You need to set your grind size based on your variables. When adjusting grind size finer the grinder should be running - burrs spinning. If it's not, partially ground beans will be crushed between the burrs causing them to jam resulting in a no start condition. When you say it seems to grind, that leads me to believe the motor is running but it's not dispensing ground coffee? If that's the case it might be the static control flap needs adjustment. It's a small rectangular piece of thin and flexible aluminum located at the end of the path out of the grinding chamber just before the chute which delivers coffee to your portafilter. You should be able to reach a finger up into the chute, catch the edge of the flap with a fingernail and bend the bottom outwards so ground coffee travels more freely out of the grinding chamber. I also suggest opening up the grinder and cleaning the grinding chamber and path out of the chamber of any coffee residue. Unplug the grinder and remove the 3 large Phillips head screws securing the grind adjustment assembly to access the grinding chamber for cleaning. If you purchased the grinder from us and continue to have issue please contact our tech support for assistance. Hope that helps! Marc

I'm still debating which grinder to get to go with the ECM Classika I'll be getting. I'm seriously considering the E37S (with the quick-set gear), but before I pull the trigger on such an expensive grinder, I need to know if it has parts that would be prone to rust (from salt air) from living across the street from the beach. My Rancilio Rocky rusted to the point that it no longer works (the grind adjustment no longer even turns). And I don't want to dish out $1700 for a grinder that is going to rust from salt air. Instead, I'd just go with the E5P.

Thank you so much for your very informative videos, and in advance for your advice. (apologies if the question has been posed already)...

Hi there! While it can grind for pour over the E37S is an espresso specialist and my favorite espresso grinder. It's rather labor intensive to adjust from espresso grind out to a size appropriate for PO. I just tried and it's about 100 half turns of the knob to get there. That took at least 45 seconds and I'm not looking forward to turning it back. Don't know what your budget is or if you're interested in single dosing but the E37SD has a quick release adjustment which makes it super-easy to make large grind size changes: www.wholelattelove.com/products/ceado-e37sd-single-dose-coffee-grinder Hope that helps! Does this grinder have a flapper that requires periodic replacement and where is it/how easy to replace it?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi b, Thanks for the question. By flapper I'm guessing you mean a static control system which is a small, thin bendable piece of aluminum? This grinder does have one and it's located at the end of the output path from the grinding chamber just before coffee fall down the chute. You can reach your finger up the delivery chute and feel it. It does not require replacement unless it was severely damaged. Otherwise it's easily bent back into shape. Get better access to the flap by removing the 3 screws holding in the top burr plate and adjustment mechanism. May need to remove the grinder's display assembly as well. The flap can be adjusted manually by giving it a little bend to allow for freer coffee flow. If bent out too much you may get some static and/or spraying of coffee from the chute. Marc

Hi, do you have complaints about the ceado E37S doing channelling? Looks like the machine grinds too fast lol. The only ways I found to avoid the problem is either to rotate the portafilter 360 degrees while it's getting filled up, or I need to grind the coffee in a separate bucket and put it back in my portafilter with a spoon. Thanks
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrice, I have not had complaints about channeling. We use the E37s multiple times daily here in the studio. Have been for a long time. Never found it to be more prone to channeling than other grinders. Actually quite the opposite as it provides excellent centered distribution of grinds in the filter basket compared to many other grinders. It is a fast grinder! Grind time for my 18g doubles usually around 3.6 seconds. To better control distribution into filter basket if that's an issue you might try adjusting the static control flap which can change the trajectory of coffee spilling out of the chute. It's a little metal flap on the output of the grinding chamber. Can sometimes easily adjust by sticking finger up the grinding chute and pulling bottom of flap with fingernail or pushing it back. If can't get it that way power off the grinder and remove the 3 Phillips head screws holding on the top burr plate adjustment. You'll see the flap on the output of the grinding chamber. You can try adjusting the position to change coffee trajectory. If you pull too far for less restriction you may get some static and/or flying grinds. If properly adjusted you'll get a nice even waterfall of coffee out of the chute into your filter basket. Be aware you may need to remove 2 more screws which hold the touch screen display in place for better access to the flap. As I'm sure you are aware there are other reasons for channeling beyond how the coffee falls into a filter basket. Many of those can be eliminated through technique modification or use of tools like a distributor or leveler. Hope that helps! Marc

After watching tons of your videos, I am considering buying the Profitech pro 700 with a Ceado E37S. Do you think is a good combi? How is the durability of the Ceado E37S? I thought the steel burrs are not so durable as the ceramic or titanium covered ones and I was pretty disappointed to find out that an almost 2000$ grinder has common steel burr. Do you think it would be wise to buy it and replace the burrs with titanium ones?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi l, Thanks for the question. The Pro 700 and E37S is a fantastic combo and a fairly common choice for those who want the best. The main advantage of titanium coated burrs is longevity. Steel burrs are good for about 600-700 Kg of grinding. That means they're good for grinding >33,000 18g double shots. Grind 5 doubles a day and the burrs are good for >6,000 days/18 years! Titanium treated burrs have about double the life. In general you will not find many high-end grinders using ceramic burrs. Ceramic burrs in theory do retain an edge better. But, they are more brittle so susceptible to chips and breaking from foreign objects like small stones mixed in with beans. Those are very rare but it does happen. Replacing the stock burrs is a personal choice. If you choose to do so have a look at SSP Red Speed burrs. Hi Lou, Thanks for the question. Well, overkill depends on perspective. IMO the E37S will be running for many years. It will outlast the Breville and the next one, and next, next... Hey Abdulrhman, Marc here from Whole Latte Love... Thanks for the question. The E37S is IMO one of the finest grinders available. Rock solid performance and the larger 83mm burrs produce a superior grind. Quick Set gear makes incredibly precise grind size adjustment. A wonderful upgrade!

How does this grinder deal with excess heat? Looking to use this in a medium-high volume coffeeshop
@Wholelattelovepage

Hi Sabin, Thanks for the question. It does well. Short grind cycles with the large 83mm burrs. So less heat with short cycles and large burrs to dissipate. Hi Patrice, The number scale on the grind setting can be moved to any number. It's held in place by a magnet so can be rotated. With that, the numbers are just a reference and don't represent a defined grind size if that makes sense. If desired you can calibrate those numbers so that the zero will represent the finest possible grind setting. Here's how: With no beans in the grinder turn on the motor. Continue adjusting the grind finer until you just hear the burrs touch. Then back off very slightly to a coarser setting until sound of burrs touching stops. Then slide the numbered scale so zero is at the pointer. Don't worry about the burrs touching briefly. The outer non-cutting edges of the burrs touch first so you are not hurting anything. Marc

Hey Lou, Thanks for the question. I've been inside most every brand of grinder available in the US. IMO Ceado grinders have the best build quality. Of course they have a price which reflects that. Here in the studio we could choose to use any of the grinders we carry. And, we carry more than 50 different models. Our daily driver is the E37S or E37SD. Just no question their 83mm burrs deliver the best grind quality. Nice fluffy grinds, quiet operation easy to open and very precise grind size adjustment - it's a pleasure to use! Marc

I'm thinking of getting the E37s for my home. Can someone talk about heat generation, rpm and disk size? Does any of it matter if this is for home use?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi g, Thanks for the question. Heat generation: If you mean does it put heat out then no it does not. Could only create heat when grinding and I've never felt warmth from the grinder. If you mean heating up the grind then it's minimal and would be less then grinders with smaller burrs. RPM = 14000 Burr size: E37S has 2 x 83mm burrs Home use: Not sure what you're after exactly with the question but the E37S is equally at home in commercial environments or for high-end home use You can find more details including 92 user reviews, technical specs, etc. here: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/espresso-grinders/products/ceado-e37-s-electronic-coffee-grinder-in-black#product-specs Hope that helps!
