I bought this unit after much research and I completley agree with your review. Something you touched on but was the deciding factor for me was the reputation regarding customer service. When I first recieved my Champion I went through the recommended break in and was excited to try it out. Fired it up hooked to trailer tried the a/c and it went into overload right away. Called Champion. They walked me through about 45 minutes of troubleshooting and determined the module was bad. They sent a new one overnight delivery. It works great now. Warning. I have this unit. If the battery is dead, you cannot start the generator at all ON GAS other than jumpstarting the battery. There is an internal relay that needs electricity to switch the unit from Propane to Gas. Pulling the card doesn't work because it won't get the gas due to the relay. Propane works fine without the battery. (If you leave the battery on for a month, it will kill the battery requiring a replacement. I had to deal with that today) Otherwise an excellent unit.

Thanks for the info. I was in Canada and mine wouldn't start after leaving the power switch on. I was worried it was a gas issue or something. I jumped my battery this morning and it fired right up. I let it run an hour and will check the battery in a few days to see if it held a charge.

Having this low cost high quality generator has opened up a lot more dry camping options without losing the benefits of great coffee in the morning and ac when needed. The biggest advantage is keeping your batteries topped up. As to ease of starting, under my supervision, my 5 year grandson can fire it up. Love this product, great video on the product.

I have a 50 amp fifth wheel that at 9000 feet altitude running both ac units I need to run two of these when using propane. So remember you will lose power if you are at altitude. This is the start of my third season with my two dual fuel Champion generators and they have performed flawlessly.
@runamuk3115 жыл бұрын
I purchased this exact generator from your store this year and it has been great. My wife and I use it to power our toy hauler that we use to travel with our dogs to Frisbee dog competitions and performances. We replaced a cumbersome set up of two Honda EU2000 inverter generators with this unit. With the Hondas I had to lug them from the inside of the trailer, hook up the parallel wiring kit, hook up the extended run fuel tank, fill the tanks with gas, and then pull start each generator. Now I simply wheel the Champion down the ramp of the toy hauler and around the front and plug it into my trailers LPG system and push the electric start. I paid a RV service center to install a quick connector at my LPG tanks so I could make use of the two 30 gallon tanks of LPG. I had to call Champion customer service to find out what pressure the generator runs on (13-15”wc) to confirm this would work. Once I got to speak to someone they were great. I will also mention that the Hondas required a 15 amp to 30 amp adapter and their receptacle sits near the bottom without enough room for the cord to bend causing the plug to not be fully inserted. I love not having to carry a gas can. As far as noise I measured the two Hondas running together and they were only one dB less than the Champion. This is a great generator without the Honda price.
@LongLongHoneymoon5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your report! Many great points... Using your RV propane makes total sense, and the noise output vis-a-vis TWO Hondas is also a good point. While I wish these were a little more quiet, they offer great value for money and the noise output is not unreasonable.

The Beauty of propane is that burns cleaner. So clean that the oil will be clear when it is time to change the oil. The in June should last longer by using propane. The soot caused by burning gasoline is abrasive. Do not think of because the oil is not black that you don’t have to change it. There is always “blow by” in A internal combustion engine. Therefore the oil eventually gets diluted by the fuel. Using Archoil friction modifier is excellent to use in the engine. Great product.

@joecool5095 жыл бұрын
The biggest difference is not the wattage but what does your trailer need. 30amp service is 110. That is a dedicated 110v 30amp generator which is necessary for a typical trailer. A 220v generator isn’t necessarily the right generator and it is important to understand how much power on 110 or 220 your rig needs. A 50amp trailer needs 220 as it pulls from each leg of the 220 which is only 25 amps per side.
@M16Scow5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but you don't have it quite right. A single phase 240 volt supply gives 120 volts 50 amps on each leg to neutral. Most RVs don't make use of 240 volts. Therefore as long as you balance the load and don't exceed 50 amps on either leg, you can potentially get a total of 100 amps at 120 volts from a 240 volt 50 amp service.

So easy to start and the switch to other fuel is so easy. Seems quieter on LP. easily does the AC overnight on LP on the power-saving setting. the cover is very nice and worth buying if you carry in the open truck bed. I wish they made weather proof covers for the 110 outlets on the front. I was surprised they don't offer remote, but the logic of the gas shut-down to turn it off on LP wouldn't work because you'd still have to go out and turn off the LP valve--a safety issue I think as well. Use LP if you're using it all night to sleep with AC. So far, it's quieter than everything else around me.

I have the 3500 Watt version of this genie. Currently in the 2nd season with it and it's working very well. Two things that I found very important while using it. One, make sure "nothing is plugged into the genie while starting it". 2nd, before turning "off ....unplug all electrical cords". I mistakenly started the genie while attached to the trailer ...a "newbie mistake" and I had an issue with performance. A call to "customer service" guided me thru a "re-set" and everything returned to normal. Finally, although we have very cold winters in Montana and the genie is stored in a "heated garage" during the winter the battery went dead. My bad...I should have removed it and put it on a "battery maintaince charger". I've not recharged the battery with a charger but noted that running the genie over a series of "off/on" uses totaling 11 plus hours has returned the battery to full charge. This unit is a "very good" product in my view and I've recommended it to a lot of people. One more point..yes..it's heavy. Therefore, when "boondocking" I leave the genie in the bed of my truck with the exhaust pointed in a safe direction. It's also "cabled securely" to keep it from "walking away". A recent camping trip with multiple days of rain and snow with the genie tucked under the bed cover kept it nice and dry and we....the campers comfortably esconced inside our little traveling home.

Called tech support (or customer service or whatever) and got to talk to a guy who answered all my questions. I understand why propane powered generators are attractive. No problem with a carburetor gumming up should it not be run for a very long time. Unfortunately, for my use, propane isn't practical. I can't carry enough propane for long generator runs when I need to use the AC. In the south, and this includes Virginia in September and sometimes into October, it's hot on football weekends, and an AC is absolutely required sometimes. However, propane if fine for occasional use when the microwave is needed, and maybe for recharging the house batteries.

With two connected units you get 7000 watts of continuous power which is the same as a mid-size conventional portable generator but minus the noise.

We love this generator! Loved your review on the remote start! Works so well. We pair the duel fuel Champion with a Champion 2800 and they will run our entire rig. Thanks for the awesome generator reviews. You are my #1 when it comes to generators.

Hey, that filling / measuring cup is cool! Oh, I bought this generator already, but I don't have enough experience with ity yet to say how much I like it, but I can say something else:The customer support at Champion Power is real good. there is a long story, but I'll skip it and say how happy I am with Champion. Oh, one more thing is that the battery requires a trickle charger if you want to have dependable operation with infrequent use. 'Gotta go, I am getting a little itching.

Check out Firman dual fuel WH3200 ie. This inverter generator has been great and Costco sold it to me with a lifetime warranty. No more gas/carb issues! Engine oil also stays cleaner with propane. As with all propane versions, slightly less wattage output when on propane.

We have this generator and used it on 2 10,000 mile trips over the past 2 summers. Last year during the hurricane a tree fell on it and crushed it pretty good. She kept running for 3 days even being quite deformed from the tree. I just kept putting gas in it.... I know hot refueling is not good and running non stop is not good either. However, it was crushed and would need replaced. We have since replaced it with the exact same one. I still have the crushed one, someday I'll take it apart and see if it can be fixed. If so, we're tethering them for the 50 amp. The first one we bought came with a plugin to keep the battery topped up, not sure why they would have removed that on the newer model....

I have a 9000 watt Champion, it will run a city but way too noisy. Also have a Harbor Freight Predator 3500 watt love it really quite. Mind you we are not full time boon-dockers, and I have pretty good array of solar panels. So we don’t have to use all that much. You should b put the decibel reader on when you start up See-More. Love the channel.

I've had the slightly lower power dual fuel for 2 years and always run it on propane. It starts the A/C in 100 degree weather with no problems. I use propane because it's just safer than gasoline to transport and use, and it burns much cleaner. The only problem I've had is that the battery does not hold a sufficient charge to start the generator (this year). But one pull usually gets it started. When it is running my power meter inside the trailer indicates 120-121 volts and 60Hz, just as it should be.

Awesome video! I bought two Lifan ESI3600iER Storm Series digital inverter generators four years ago and they still work great. I do wish they had a manual choke like your Champion though. Auto choke carburetors take longer to start sometimes. I really like the compactness of your Champion generator as well. If I were to purchase a replacement, this Champion would be the one. Thanks for the review. Best Wishes!

If you add the parallel kit, connecting two generators, you get a 50 amp RV outlet for all of those 50 amp RVs. Most other brands still only give you a 30 amp connector with their parallel kits. You still will only get 30 amps per leg, but will be able to run two air conditioners at the same time. I would lean toward the Champion generators for that reason alone.

19:10 I was going to comment earlier when you mentioned them that they would easily hit 58db. Cicadas are common all the way up the North East coast of Australia. I've read that they can be as loud as 85 decibels and I believe that from experience.
@j.raynes62185 жыл бұрын
When you tested the noise level of the generator WITH the cicadas, why wasn't is twice as loud as just the cicadas alone?
@BradGryphonn5 жыл бұрын
@@j.raynes6218 it doesn't work like that.
@dzymslizzy36415 жыл бұрын
WOW! I thought you were being facetious about the cicadas! I had no idea they were that loud. We don't get them around here, so I had no clue. We have a small Honda whisper quiet generator that we bought years ago just as household emergency equipment, and we used to also take it out on a boat we used to have. The starting sequence on that, I had to use a 'naughty word' acronym to remember: FUel, Choke, Key! I'm sure you can spot the word--to start--F** the generator! LOL
@lyndontrombley19703 жыл бұрын
For those of you using propane one thing you must consider is the energy density of propane is a bit lower so you won't get the same power output as gas. So, you might need to upsize your genset depending on load as you wouldn't get 3100W out of it on propane.
@lloyddahlen11415 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the info, really nice of you, what is the run time with propane? 👍

100 degrees and 100% humidity means you do not have to iron your clothes. Just step outside and the wrinkles fall right out. Keep cool beverages readily available. PS I prefer my remote control but I would like an extended run tank.

I was thinking about having the propane generator option in a class A about 10 yrs ago but the dealer told me they don't recommend it because propane burn through fuel mush quicker. I've been told by those owning propane generators that they seem to go through fuel quickly. I would like to hear other's input The plus of propane is the fuel is cheaper and you don't need to carry a gas can.

You mentioned that you should have the RV unhooked from the generator. On the test of the gas unit with remote start that didn’t happen and obviously that is the whole idea of the remote start unit. I have the remote start unit in order. The dual fuel unit is nice but the remote start is a nice option. Good videos.

I have had fuel gauges go bad on me before on my semi truck. When that has happened I stick the tank. Basically take a yard stick, put it down in the tank to the bottom. I initially measure how many inches are in it when full and mark this spot with a permanent marker. Then I'll mark what would be the half point and then tword the bottom where I would consider the danger zone. Maybe this will help.

Did you just use a pampered chef measuring cup to fill your oil?!?! Love it! That being said, have you ever looked at the Predator 3500 inverter generator from Harbor Freight? I’ve had pretty good luck with mine. It’s been running strong for 2 years. I did a proper break in. Most generators have no oil filter so it’s the only way to get all those tiny particles of metal out from the first run. Run it for an hour, change the oil, run it again for 8 hours, change the oil. After that...you’re good to go.

Yeah, Sean "borrowed" my Pampered Chef measuring cup many years ago for an oil change. Needless to say, I told him I didn't want it back! In his defense, he did order me a replacement. 😁

Nice to see a small Champion unit. It would be a good way to go if our Honda ever dies. We reviewed the larger Champion (9000w) Dual Fuel in a video a little while ago here on Relentless Homesteading for our homestead and it has been a great unit. Watching this video reminded me of going out and getting the battery on the unit topped off. Happy Trails

Pointing the exhaust toward the woods is a good idea. Trees need carbon dioxide, they breathe it in and expel oxygen. This will be more effective at reducing global warming, as the trees get bathed in it, rather than having it diluted by turning the generator away from the trees. I love all your warning labels in the video.

That is one old propane tank 7-97. You must take it to Tractor Supply to get refilled, they never check anything. You ought to take it to Walmart and exchange it at one of their automated exchange units, I took an old one there and exchanged it and got an almost brand new tank for $15.

Something else to consider if using propane in cold weather is that it sometimes freezes when used heavily under a big draw (like a furnace) because it doesn’t have time to vaporize.

The grounding stud is necessary when two units are linked together in parallel and I think attach with each other. Is this less noisy than the Honda eu2200ic? Honda eu2200ic is very quiet especially in the eco mode. 😉
