The Lead & Steel Pandora PB-3 was a surprisingly exciting optic to review, and that's hard to say about red dots. Seemingly designed to fill a similar role as the Aimpoint Acro, it could be an interesting option to consider for anyone looking for an enclosed reticle micro red dot. Love the review. Thanks TGF! On the topic of shake awake, that feature relies on an accelerometer. Accelerometers have a service life significantly shorter than the switches, emitter, and circuitry. To allocate the risk of the accelerometer failing and killing the entire reticle, we tied shake awake to the circuit of the ring only, in our LP-1's larger CQB reticle. That way, if the motion sensor fails, you'll still have the dot (like an Aimpoint). We call it AuraWake, currently patent-pending. We intend to implement AuraWake into the Pandora, in the upcoming 1/65 MOA iteration. Until then, you can rely on bulletproof circuitry for the 3MOA dot. Just be sure to change your battery every 6 to 12 months as a preventative measure!

I dont know if the threading is compatible, but primary arms has their battery cover add on that can give similar feature to shake awake. it would make no sense for a pistol or a duty weapon IMO (batteries are cheap) but for those who want that feature it may be a temp solution. it is still a failure point but at least it could be taken on and off. Again not sure on compatibility with the threads on the battery cover the pb-3 has.

Out of curiosity, what's the rough ballpark lifespan (in months/years) you tend to see on accelerometers before they die? Asking on behalf of everyone with a Primary Arms prism....

One way to test the “durability” of an optic without smashing against a rock is mounting one to a direct blowback PCC, which can give semi-realistic results about how well an optic can hold up against the hard recoil of a cheap PCC

As cool as it is to see the MP5, it probably would have been a more usefully definitive test if this could be put on a handgun, as the cycling of the slide beats on an optic's innards much harder than the static mount on a low-recoil PCC. EDIT: the Acro footprint probably doesn't mount easily to slides though. Derp

I don't necessarily disagree, but a long gun allows me to better test things like parallax, so I really wanted to pay attention to that. Plus, it was absolutely a fun excuse to mount it to something like an MP-5. That said, Lead & Steel are sending me an optic plate for my CZ, which as I said, I'm going to test further on if there's anything to particularly report back on.

If you want a cheap acro footprint enclosed optic, the Warner and Swasey (Chinese made for Geissele) is like $125. There are a bunch of other cheap acro clones that are essentially the same optic, but the W&S is the cheapest.

I’ve got both but for two different uses. How did you run your pb3/steiner on a hand gun or pcc or offset w/lpvo? Jw jw. Was the pb3 too big feeling? Or was the dot off to you,

@@ghodge82 mps on a G45mos with a fcd plate. my lgs has most of the enclosed optics on some of the rentals so i tried them out, out of the pb3/acro p2/mps/eps i found the mps had the smallest bezel so i felt the optic had a larger window without it having a larger window, also i kinda like the 11hr shutoff. the p2/pb3 did seem a touch bigger then the mps but then again they’re all pretty big optics

overall i trust steiner to be hard use, i’ve seen too many p2s have issues with bad seals and getting condensation to buy one at a higher price then the mps. with the pb3 i also don’t like L&S due to the owner being a pathological liar and my friend having issues with his LP1, id rather not spend similar money for a worse optic
