I would love to see your thoughts on all the STL Element Ocarinas. Water is my favorite element, so I'm especially glad you reviewed that one. Besides the water the one I'd be most interested in hearing your thoughts on is the shadow.

I got my water element ocarina on friday as an early Christmas present from my boyfriend. I love the ocarina and it is awesome to play. The only thing that bothers me is the subhole you mentioned. I don't think, that it is too heavy. But maybe that's because I also play the orchestral flute since 2006 and it is 100 grams heavier than the ocarina. I ordered this ocarina yesterday. It will take a long time to arrive because I live in Finland. It caused me 100€ but I regret nothing!! I just want a ceramic ocarina because I like them more than plastic ones and the water ocarina doesn't need the aqute bend. And I just want to look cool when I'm playing to others and my grandfather.

I saw the water one on sale at comic con but didn’t have enough money so I got the Fire one. You should do a review on it! Looks and sounds great! Edit: It has the same colors as the fire ocarina but it’s not. It’s called the Brio ocarina by STL

The SM64 music was unexpected and I really needed to hear that. Dire Dire Docks/Jolly Roger Bay is my favorite Mario track, ocarina is my favorite instrument, together... WOW, I had waited a long time for someone to play/post that.

I got this one from my parent's for Christmas. It's super prettt and I'm just starting to learn how to play it. Is it normal for your wrists to feel weird / uncomfortable in the beginning of learning this instrument?

From my perspective, I would say yes but don’t take my word for it as I’ve only played recorder and bassoon. Usually hand placements like the bassoon has, would be uncomfortable at first, it comes down to practice. So I would ASSUME it would be the same for the ocarina when you’re a beginner. If it proceeds past being a beginner then I would look for a different model for the instrument you’re playing. This is also in reference of other ocarina videos I’ve watched. Again, don’t take my word for it, but yeah. I know, year later response, you probably know the answer, but just in case other people have this question I thought I’d answer

Im super late but if your hands hurt after playing the ocarina then your grip is too hard on it. Play more relaxed and have the padded part of your fingers inside the holes instead of your fingertips. You get better sound and it doesnt hurt. You should practice this over something soft so you dont drop it or you can use a neckstrap like i do! Hope this helped!

Thanks for the thorough review! I just bought the Lightning from STL and I have the Earth, also. Talk about HEAVY! I do like the Earth ocarina, but it takes more breath and being heavy it's a bit tiring to play. Perhaps it's just me; I'm a weakling. 😅 lol

I have many I like that are well tuned, but what separates them are the breath pressure characteristics. My favorites are probably my Maparam Alto C, Hind Sweet Potato Alto, and Rotter C3.

Try hot glue. That was an idea I had to make it easier to cover my sub holes on a sweet potato I had owned.

Its because your not covering the holes right most likely. Keep your fingers flat when you play. It takes lots of practice to get good so dont sweat it.
