I’m a truck driver and I always like going, or passing through, Poland. The food is almost always delicious and fairly priced. And in general the Polish are very agreeable people. And beside that the public spaces in Poland are clean and very safe. No street crime or unruly behaving youngsters. A very nice country where I plan to retire actually.

Glad the taste is flavoursome alround but it is beige .....I went with a friend for a pre- Xmas dinner.....it was pickled herrings etc...I couldn't eat it.....but this menu looks good specifically as they make it....

London-born and bred, I emigrated to Chicago 44 years ago. Chicago has a large Polish and ethnic Polish community and I do mean large. I love Polish food, we even cook it at home.

I worked with a Polish girl for a few years recently and she was kind enough to introduce me and a couple of my mates to Polish food with pierogi being one of the things she made and it was amazing!! So many quirky little dishes they’ve got going on and it got to a point where we were having polish chocolates and loads of different things. Very interesting cuisine as you’ve just found out Gary! Would recommend to anyone to give it a go👍🏼

summer bigos is made of young, fresh cabbage, while winter bigos made of sauerkraut is my favorite version, much more intense in taste. Remember Londoners, most Poles eat dishes based on seasonal vegetables and fruits.😉

Bigos schould be made from fresh and sour cabbage ( mix). The name „summer bigos” does’t exist in Poland. We call that dish „stewed cabbage”.

Just spent a few weeks in Poland. Great food, great value (PKP trains serve the best ‘train food’ in the world). The pierogies you got looked stunning - first class example. Those salad plates are classically Polish. The bigos is exact what they said - hearty summer food (easy to make and very hearty in the winter -Poles love cabbage, the amount of meat is down to personal preference). We fell in love with the food and, in Poland itself, the amazing value. (Our last meal here in the expensive USA cost my wife and I $63 - fish and chips, no drinks and it was the cheapest meal on the menu. Our last meal in Krakow cost us $64 for seven of us, huge platefuls of schnitzels, salads, etc plus drinks). Pleased to see Polish food represented well in London, but I would suggest you do a review in Poland itself - mind blowing. Well done Gary.

I have been a Polish food fan for more than twenty years following a driving holiday to Poland. Mamushkas was recommended to me by a Polish gentleman on the desk at one of the hotels I used when working in our London office. After that first visit I used to eat there every time before returning to the North of England (bus from Belgravia then tube to Euston). It is authentic, just like eating in Poland. You have missed out on a fantastic polish restaurant, now closed on Shepherds Bush Green that closed a few years ago, but won "London's best restaurant" in the telegraph, times and other papers several times between 2004 And 2013. Can't turn the clock back though.

You are right about the nature of this particular cuisine, if you like it, imagine what Polish court cuisine is like. Popular until 1945 in every Polish manor house and on the tables of the intellectual class. I will add that there were only about four hundred recipes for soups.

Witaj Gary, cieszę się, że smakowało Ci polskie jedzenie! I am so happy you went to a Polish restaurant. My mum is from Warsaw and when I was ten she took me there to visit my relatives. This was way back in 1976 when Poland was still under a communist regime. There was food rationing and very little choice. I would go shopping with my grandmother, she used cook such delicious meals. Once we went to a lido and when it came to lunch time I was dreaming of a beefburger and chips, in reality all that was available was stewed cabbage and a cup of tea! I loved my stay in Warsaw, sadly all my Polish relatives have passed on and it's just me and my mum left. I will never forget my trip there, such an amazing country and very friendly people too. You've brought back some very happy memories for me, dziękuję Gary. PS I got my love of pigeons from my babcia (grandmother), we used to go to the square and feed them - even though it wasn't allowed.) Miłość od Chirpy and Tania xxx

Is their food and how much vodka they can knock back in a session 😉😉. What I used to love about eating out with my Polish staff? It wasn't just about the food. It was the whole experience of the food and conversation. Taking time to enjoy the food whilst also enjoying talking about home and memories. I particularly liked their meats in jelly. Supposedly something that stopped you getting a hangover 🤔🤔. I just love Polish sausage. Each area of Poland have their own recipe and I love them all. 👍👍.

I used to go into the Mamuska in the old Elephant and Castle shopping centre after work. It was unpretentious and straightforward. Quite cafe like. You go in, order your food and drink, then drink and eat, then leave. The prices were straightforward as well. I wasn't looking for posh and swanky. Just simple delicious food. It delivered.

My wife is Polish and I love Polish cuisine. My favourite restaurant is in Gdańsk and they specialise in Pierogi, it’s called Mandu and it’s fantastic! The menu is great the range of different types of pierogi is varied and delicious. The only downside is it can get very busy, with diners queuing down the street to get in.

Great video and glad to see you enjoyed your first Polish meal. My grandmother/grandfather immigrated from Poland to the US in the early 1900’s. My grandmother spoke no English but I remember fondly the food coming out from her small kitchen. One dish that stands out is her Polish Sour Rye Soup. Fermented rye starter/flour with white kielbasa and hard boiled eggs. I do make her recipe of stuffed cabbage rolls (Golabki) at least 4-5 times a year. Thank you for bringing back great childhood memories.

oh yes! it is one of our national dishes called "Żurek" = sour rye soup appreciated worldwide - Polish soup took second place in the poll of the well-known Taste Atlas website, dedicated to traditional cuisine. Sour rye soup lost only to tonkotsu ramen from Japan, this soup turned out to be unrivaled. Sour rye soup turned out to be almost unrivaled, only surpassed by Japanese tonkotsu ramen. Nice one Gary, as always. I’ve not eaten Polish food in the UK yet but when the Ukraine war started my local townsfolk filled five long wheel base vans to bursting with urgent supplies, clothes and a long list of other stuff requested by friends who live in Ustron (not a million miles from Krakow) who’s small town were providing shelter and comfort for many Ukraine refugees. We drove all day and night there and back with only one stop over where we sampled the local nosh (and local beer of course) and despite not having a scooby what we were ordering (and I still couldn’t tell you what I had) it was absolutely delicious. I have often wondered if there are good Polish restaurants here in the UK and of course I’m not surprised that there are, but thank you so much for finding this one. PS: We raised over £25k too, but we were was just a tiny cog in a huge national effort. ❤ the Polish. Bravo Gary, I think trying new cuisines is rich vein to be explored further.

We do not eat carp on a Christmass day, we eat it the day before though, because it is a fast day, so we mostly eat different kinds of fish, It is the only day in the year we eat carp and we are aware that it is muddy fish with funny taste, but the Christmass day is something else believe me, I like turkey as well, my mom made it once on Christmass in Polish way and my GF makes it every year in American way since she is Canadian. The best Polish Christmass food in my opinion is Spicy Polish Barszcz/Borsht with Uszka (lit. little ears) - little pierogi with mushroom and cabbage or krokiets - deep fried pancakes rollades with meat or cabbage + mushroom stuffing, various kinds of herrings, pasztety - Polish pâtés, delicious cakes and various Polish kinds of "puddings".

Hi Gary, I'm polish and I'm glad you could sample some polish cuisine! Sadly, I would say this probably wasn't the best representation of what polish cuisine has to offer but I'm glad you liked it! The stew you had is normally called hunter stew from baby cabbage and it's not everyone's taste. I think the best would be if you actually have tried proper polish 'bigos' (hunter stew) which is much different in terms of flavour and ingredients (also cabbage based but marinated - sauerkraut - polish equivalent of Korean kimchi - but sour in flavour not spicy). Next time I would also try 'pierogi ruskie' (Russian dumplings), 'zupa ogórkowa' (made from marinated cucumbers) OR 'zupa grochowa' (peas soup) and 'kotlet schabowy' (pork cutlet in breadcrumbs). We, polish are very big on soups and there is a lot to try (flavours you probably never have tried before!). For a dessert I would probably recommend apple cake (szarlotka) or pancakes with white cheese. Again I never been to this restaurant so can only recommend what I would order myself. Anyway, best traditional polish food you're going to find is sadly in Poland in venues called 'milk bars' - subsidised by government. For £10 - £15 you can have several mains and starters plus drinks. It's an iconic place 'milk bar' and I recommend to try when visiting Poland. You can find them in every polish city or sometimes even in little towns. Either way I've enjoyed watching your review and keep up the good work! Ps. And yes traditional polish cheesecake usually have shortcut pastry base (but it doesn't have to) and also raisins and orange peel (not everyone likes it but that's the most popular version) and chocolate ganache topping. A bit like basque cheesecake! Kasia

Fair comment and another good review Gary. I've been to Warsaw and krakow and I found most Polish food bland and not particularly appealing to the eye and Pallate. I think Polish food is largely inspired a lot by German food which I didn't enjoy much. Worst meal I had was a concoction of one of those 'snotty' textured boil in the bag lamb shanks, bland boiled potatoes, tasteless cabbage and tasteless corn on the cob. Never tried polish food. Restaurants have opened in the past in Merthyr, but never last. Vegan restaurants fall by the Wayside as well. Nice review. Not for me. But willing to give it a go if one existed here.

Ooooooh this is different. Love the look of those dumplings and the toppings that come with them. That cheese cake looks baked I think, rather than they made a refrigerated one. This is why I love your channel. I never get bored. Having lived in Eastern Europe for an extended period some decades back I found that, while it might not have the aethetics of western food, and therefore not quite as easy on the eye, it was invariably tasty and filling - you needed that on those long cold winter nights. I still eat Polish pork loin slices on my lunchtime sandwiches and it's terrific. Glad you enjoyed the most part of your meal (soup looked particularly good for £3). Thanks Gary and Son.

Polish food is always hearty and satisfying - and pierogi a delight! If you do a culinary tour of Poland, you’ll find restaurants that specialise in offering 100s of varieties based on the pierogi theme! You’ll be hard pressed to review them all - but you’ll sure want to!

Really? Never? Have you never eaten a bagels for example? Because it’s Polish food, brought to the USA by Polish Jews. Recently I saw a vid of dude that went to Poland and was so surprised with food, because he apparently was eating a lot of Polish food in the USA not even knowing it’s Polish. He said that he’s living in a state with huge amount of Poles (forgot which one was that) and he had a lot of Polish food, but he thought that they were normal American dishes.

I have had Polish food before, but mainly cabbage soup at the Polish Club in Leeds when I lived there and that was delicious. I have always wanted to try Perogi, so something to look forward to. Definitely would give this a try if ever I get to London again. 👍👍

Happy to see some Polish food on your channel. The pierogies I usually pan fry and then add sour cream and onion; that is my favorite combination of toppings and your appetizer looked excellent. Regarding the main dish, I grew up with a similar dish with minced beef instead of sausage and bacon, where you also have to search for the meat. A lot of these dishes were used to infuse meat flavor in a mostly vegetarian dish because meat was expensive.

That's a solid 8 / 10 any day of the week, especially for central London. Nice to see it all being made in-house. Lots of employers are struggling to get staff, since many of the Eastern Europeans went home during Covid, and never came back, due to Brexit. Can't say I blame them.

I recommend You to visit Daquise which is the oldest Polish restaurant in London and the most popular among Polish people from what I know, the other one is Ognisko which is more fancy, but also very traditional and important spot for Polonia - Polish diaspora in UK. My dad was Polish so always nice to see a review of Polish food. I do really love it and it gives me a small connection to my second country. Bigos is very much a traditional Polish food never had the summer version and we always had rice with it. The soup i usually have would be Barszcz (beetroot soup) great with the dumplings and a little sour cream. Had no idea this restaurant was there might visit next time im in town.

We have Pols on both sides of our family, so we are very familiar. All your items looked pretty legit for sure! One thing to keep in mind at least on the east coast of America you can find two varieties of kielbasa, fresh or smoked. Around Maryland you will see mostly the fresh but the closer you get to Pittsburgh you swill start seeing the smoked. I make my own fresh.

Mamuska is a fantastic winter venue as the food is so comforting and filling. It started as a bit of a value 'milk bar' for Poles over at the Elephant and hence why some dishes are authentic but less pretty or flavoursome. That said there's plenty of good stuff on there - the 'schabowy' pork cutlet is a must-have for me and I'd recommend it for first-timers

Hi Gary, a very long time since I had Polish food, at least 15 years ago in Zakopane in Poland. It was absolutely delicious if my memory serves me right. I remember the starter, it was smoked sausage fried with crispy onions, a very nice salad and a bit of sauerkraut. But as I don't have access to my database from here in Spain, I can't confirm the rest or anything really, just what I remember from the top of my head. But this place you're reviewing is definitely a place I will visit in the future. Need a reminder of Polish cuisine and the different flavours and textures. Another great review in the bag, mate and keeping up the fabulous work you're doing. All the best from finally sunny and warm North West Spain and I think I will return 10lbs heavier due to all the food and drink we're enjoying when on holidays. But trying to get some training done at least every second day so I don't come home 20lbs overweight. 😅😅

Hi Gary. Being 1/2 Polish/English, I’ve tried them all. The best authentic Polish place to eat I have found in London is the White Eagle club in Balham. It serves food only on Sunday from midday and it’s a buffet all you can eat. The quality of the food is like eating from a Polish mother’s kitchen in Poland. I have to say the cheesecake you had doesn’t represent what I have eaten over here and in Poland. The Polish cheesecake is made from 100% Polish soft cheese and not the synthetic cheesecake crap you buy in Tesco’s.

Yes, that's what I thought when I saw that piece of Polish cheescake. It's always dense as it's made 100% from cottage or rather quark cheese, with some nice , crounchy base. Whenever I go to shop at Tesco, or any other supermarket, and want to have some nice cheescake, I always check how much cheese it says it contains, sadly supermarket cheescakes don't contain much cheese. My mother, aunties always made thise type of cheescake at home, but it's hard to buy this type of quality , even in shops in Poland, as quark cheese is expensive, so various companies producing these cheescakes are usually trying to substitute the cheese with some other ingredients.
