Really cool that you got to sample all three shifting styles on track (full auto, flappy paddle, and stickshift). I think these are future collectibles, great do-anything cars that will likely last a long time. Didn't realize 40 grand gets you in one...That's cheap these days!

It's a very entertaining car and pretty enjoyable to drive. A set of coilovers, and it will ride a lot better in the city. Hoping that the bump in production will help alleviate some of the demand.

@@revmatchtv Didn't that sell only a tick over 5k of these 2023 & 24 combined? That equals the same number as the VW R32 back in 2004 limited production. I think they will sell more automatics than manuals. Honda needs to get off the "save the manuals" bs and make a good automatic for the civic type r.

@wellsbengston4132 they never limited this car like vw did with the VW R32 global unlike now its mass produced and the manual transmission was dropped. Toyota has extra money available from a ton or Camery and Tacoma sales that VW didn't have until the sixth generation R with unlimited production over 5k.

@@arctictruck10 Yes, they've been selling around 5K per year. They are planning now to increase production for 2025.

Great review. I have a deposit on a 2025 GR Corolla Premium MT for Early December delivery. This will replace my Focus RS that was totaled when I was rear-ended by an inattentive driver.

My friend has a Focus RS. It's still going. This is definitely a more modern replacement.

Honestly, this was a no-brainer for this car, however, I still am adamant that this powertrain should also be in the corolla cross, because why not, I know people will buy it.

So the transfer case has air ducting to help with cooling, sounds like it still needs a bit more, like a dedicated heat exchanger, tempted to buy one if the local Canadian Toyota are not too greedy next summer

There's a transfer case cooler from 555 that looks promising. I know of one vehicle that is testing it on the track. Initial results look pretty good.

I deliberately didn’t put background noise into the interview for clarity, but I see your point. Any b roll I got from external mounted cameras is unusable. It’s just wind noise.

The GR Corolla has been difficult to get due to the production numbers. Toyota told me demand was a bit higher than expected, so they are bumping up production.

So they overdrive the rear to increase rear bias, and it still pushes like a poorly setup FWD car, and it overheats the rear diff, now they add a torque converter auto. Boo, booo I say! I don't care how nice of an auto it is, just listening and watching you can see plain as day it is not nearly as snappy as a DCT. Plus torque converters eat HP and this car does not have a lot to spare. I have already seen some 0-60 1/4 mile testing with this auto and it's slower than the manual! They need to get rid of that stupid rear bias and just tune the suspension so the car will rotate in corners, that will eliminate two major issues. The Focus RS had this same BS setup and it was a problem there as well, at least that car didn't push nearly as bad as this one does in corners. Then put a proper DCT in it, as it is now I am disappointed with this car. So much potential and they are fumbling it. It pushes in corners and has a torque converter auto, tell me you are making this car for posers over true enthusiasts without actually telling me. This.
@DenisDamulira232 ай бұрын
"don't care how nice of an auto it is" Folks like you are the problem in the world. Going about complaining about everything. If it's excellent, it's excellent. If you don't like it, buy the manual or go get DCT car. It's really that simple. It shifts like or faster than a DCT. re-watch the video. He said it even shifts faster than the ZF in a Supra too which FYI he's driven many times and also actually owns. Buy what you want (manual) or DCT. Many will buy the auto and the money from the auto will keep this car around longer even in manual mode. Manuals are just not selling anymore and without an auto. This car would have a quick death.
@ericmichel38572 ай бұрын
@@DenisDamulira23 I am the "problem with the world" ?😂 A bit melodramatic. It's nice, for an automatic. This car is missing the mark in a couple of key areas, and there is nothing wrong with expressing opinions. It's called constructive feedback.
@revmatchtv2 ай бұрын
@ericmichel3857 "Snappy" typically means firm shifts, not necessarily fast shifts. Porsche's PDK shifts about 3x faster than Corolla, but the shifts are nearly imperceptible because they are so smooth. Quick shifting doesn't mean sending a shock through the driveline, even though it's definitely more engaging to drive. FYI - the torque converter locks up in gears 2-8. Also, rear power bias helps reduce understeer, not increase it. The car is less pushy in stock form than it was in the first iteration in part because of the dynamic torque split. However, anyone who wants to track the car is going to swap out the dampers, springs and maybe sway bars to get the handling balance they want. All that said, manufacturers tune their suspensions for the vast majority of drivers who will never take their cars on a track. The GRC, the Golf R, and the Elantra N are all tuned for street driving, but are track capable. All will respond to aftermarket mods.
@ericmichel38572 ай бұрын
@@revmatchtv Snappy means responsive and .3 seconds is not very responsive compared to a DCT, plus the launch control is a joke. The auto is slower than the manual, the exact opposite of similar cars with a DCT. That is what I mean. Overall this car has potential but it understeers (more so than its FWD competitors) AND it overheats on track. That is a crap design by any standard. So it/s relatively slow, doesn't handle well on track, and is unreliable. However it's expensive, for virtually the same money you are much better off with Golf R, type R, Elantra N, or even a WRX.
