Fun fact; Papyrus says many times more puns than Sans does, in-game. In fact, Sans only makes a few puns while Papyrus sneaks them in almost every conversation. Sans is more about actual comedy and humorous timing, which Papyrus only finds bothersome when he does it during work-hours. He still plays along, most of the time. He doesn't actually dislike Sans' humor in the slightest. The Fandom just liked it better this way, I guess...?

The fandom never called Papyrus. Most of his puns are exclusive to those who love the better bone man and bothered calling Papyrus multiple times in every single room. Papyrus also only gets annoyed by Sans's shitty bone puns, which he explains is cause they're lazy and repetitive. Understandable, considering that they are both skeletons and Sans likely would always consider it the right time to make a bone joke. Also, puns are comedy, and they're great comedy. I think you mean that Sans is more about practical jokes than wordplay. They're both comedic geniuses.

Comedians don't often resort to simple puns, even as someone who adores puns myself. But it is true; most people don't bother to check in on our boy Papyrus much. He has incredible commentary and surprising insightfulness. Plus he has a concerning amount of knowledge regarding pastas of all kind.
