Dating game back again pretty freakin sweet! I think Stephan should get a Honda CTX1300. Good medium size tourer for 2 up riding and trips, limited run adds to exclusivity, its underappreciated in its time, and its a Honda so even though its a 10 year old motorcycle it should run perfectly. Along all the same lines as the CTX1300 is the Harley Davidson Switchback which could also be a solid choice for Stephan. I think Peter should forget the Africa Twin and go with a used tricked out GS1250, Triumph Tiger 1050, or maybe an HD Dirt Glide. Problem with the HD is if you want to use it strictly for on road HD has to change the tires and settings and the multiuse standard use tires wear out very quickly on road. Luke might want to consider something like a Bonneville, W800, RE Interceptor 650, or Moto Guzzi V7. Perhaps something in a middleweight ADV like a 750 GS, Versys 1000, or Vstrom. Ethan I think should go with his gut, Ninja 400 is the G.O.A.T. so go for it! Vickie do not get a Navi is a scooter not a motorcycle. She may have to get something like a Rebel 250, Ninja 300 , or a Boulevard S40, but yeah options are going to be limited. Get Jim a Goldwing or a Road King! Gotta be the Vaquero lmao! Wonder if that is Sean from Bikes and Beards WLA? Ok so not the WLA, my losing streak...continues. A very Happy Belated Birthday to The Silver Fox, many Happy Returns! Zack as Lance, I'm sure, could tell you the first P-twin came in Edward Turners 1938 Speed Twin. Melissa there is nothing to it but to do it. Get on a highway and go one exit then go one exit back the other way. Next time go two exits, basically take it slow and get used to it. Very humbling experience for me first time I got on a highway and a semi blew by me at like 80mph. Really put things in perspective, but I kept at it and you get used to it after awhile. Another great show Old Sports see you in 2!

You raised some interesting questions. I started taking my daughter on the back of my motorcycles when she was 3 years old, using a custom seat and footrests. As soon as she was able to touch her toes on the ground at age 11, she started riding my bikes (Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-07) in parking lots and on a nearby mountain, and she completed the Honda Red Riders programme on a Honda CRF125. She got her license at age 16 and her own Yamaha YZF-R3, which she adores, and her riding skills are generally superior to many of the older new riders we meet on much larger and more powerful motorcycles. Now she is 18 (still only get’s her toes down as she is 5’ 4”) she has experienced a number of different bikes, done a few 650km (500 mile) + day trips, and now she wants to take get on a race track and to take track lessons. I also started her in karate at age 4, she received her black belt at age 13, was one of the top handful of kumite competitors in her age group with multiple gold medals, and competed at the Nationals as part of the British Columbia team. She is much stronger than most girls her size and almost every time she fought medics were required to attend to her opponents, and she often received penalties for hurting them (a strange rule system; she once lost a match due to penalties after dominating and battering her opponent from start to finish). There were times that I really questioned the wisdom of the sport in letting kids go out and pound on each other without any protective gear, especially after seeing one girl step into my daughter’s head kick. Ultimately, the questions of how wise a parent I have been have to balance the risk I have exposed my daughter to against the enhanced survival skills she has obtained. I know (and have even have watched) a few boys my daughter’s age write off their bikes (Yamaha YZF-R6 is not a suitable first bike for a 17 year old!), but my daughter is a competent and capable rider and I trust her skills and judgement, which relieves my anxiety when she is out on her own (she has been riding to school since she got her license). She has studied multiple martial arts and is a formidable fighter with excellent judgement; I hope she never has the need to defend herself from physical violence, but the statistics are not good, so I would rather have her prepared.

Here's a dating game scenario for you: A 34 year old, 6ft, 34in inseam, and has been riding and wrenching on his own bikes for a decade or two. He's a youtuber that features personal favorites of the small displacement variety; a grom, a benelli tnt135, scooters, as well as supermotos. He's looking for a new bike to feature on the channel! Something with mod options, something viewers would be interested in learning more about, and of similar style to small displacement (but not afraid to step out of his norm). Definitely not afraid to take on major repair or complicated mod work.... Asking for a friend.

In response to your advice for Vicki. I have a daughter that just began riding with a smaller inseam. I usually agree with Zack, but Spurg almost hit it out of the park on his recommendation of a TU 250 for Vicki. I bought my daughter a Suzuki 2008 GZ 250 to learn to ride on. The price was under $1,500 by $400 (this allows Vicki to take the safety class) and had just over 2,000 miles on it. I rode it home after purchasing it. It did need some work, but nothing that was out of the norm for a small, relatively unused bike. (Sticky Carburetor, chain maintenance, etc) It was purchased in WA which has the same emissions for cars (I'm assuming for motorcycles, but I'm not a lawyer) and they are around here. Way to go, you make it entertaining, provide multiple solutions, but just missed the bullseye, which forces us to keep listening for the next answer. We're hoping you are correct, and rooting for you, but like our favorite sports team, you keep us engaged to the end, and we end up having to come back to hear you redeem yourselves at the next podcost. Keep it up! PS. Babies on Bikes may be some of your best work. I'm still laughing, and have shared it. It deserves to watched more than it has been so far. Keep up all the good work you do.

Due to the more limited riding season here in the Midwest, there are so many great 10-20 year old bikes with low mileage (10k or less) in the $4,000 to $7,000 range. Makes it impossible for me to justify buying a new bike from a dealership when I can get three for the same price or less.

The Super Tenere is the best over 1000cc ADV bike currently made. In Canada it’s 1/2 the cost of a HD, BMW, Ducati and Triumph. Valve services every 42,000km. 1/2 the cost for maintenance. And the most reliable. I bought mine new in 2020 and now have 100,000km trouble free. I live in Canada. My buddies own BMW/HD/Triumph and KTM and they’re always in the shop with computer problems. While they’re getting their bikes fixed….I’m riding. I expect to get 300,000 - 500,000km on the bike before I ever do anything to it. If you want to ride trouble free, the Super Tenere is your bike….. If you want the latest gadget and all the horse power in the world that won’t work half the time and the bike will be in the shop, then buy a BMW/HD/Triumph/Ducattti or KTM Ride safe

For a future classic under 10k that you can buy new in 2024, isn't that the Transalp 750? It already has establised cult following, it's comfortable, but you can easily wrench on it. Or a 2010 Transalp, which is even simpler. Comfortable for a weekend getaway and they'll go for very cheap at dealers but the community is there and they'll pay a pretty penny for a model in good condition

52:26 guys... Contestant #3 was really just an open and shut KLR650 recommendation. You can get new ones for 6.5 OTD, 2022 New-OldStock is being discounted down to 4.5k-5k before fees/taxes. You can strap a cooler tp the back SUPER easily because of the flat rack that comes stock (or even get the Traveler trim that comes with a top box) Guy is 5'11", so may be on smaller side for KLR650 but also just simply change the seat out if that's the case, or even get the KLR650S(hort) model. Anyways, KLR650 really would have been it for #3, 50 mile commute (presumably one-way), the KLR650 Gen3 sees 48-53mpg and has a 6 gallon tank, so Contestant #3 would only need to fill up twice a week, much less than the Shadow Spirit (if his is like my 1997 one, it was 33mpg AT BEST and only a 2.7 gal tank, so unless they changed the fuel capacity size over the years for the same bike... he's filling up once a day if his commute is 100 miles round trip (or twice a day to top it off for tomorrow morning). The Kawasaki KLR650 really is just the answer, truly bummed it wasn't mentioned.

as a guy at 240 lbs that's 6'3" who takes his grom to a kart track, he's not too big for a Honda Grom. I have a ton of fun on mine. I know I will always lose to the kids on 125 because my skill just isn't there yet, but even if it was my heft vs theirs is just worlds apart. My local track is pretty technical in some layouts and I find the idea of a full "street" size bike, kind of cumbersome on there. Could I ride it around the track sure. Would it feel the best with groms and 125s still zooming around me, probably not. I also don't find myself wanting more "power", i want to learn to corner better, not just go faster once i'm done turning

Beautiful, plenty fast enough, easy to work on, unique and something i wanna hand down to my kid in the years coming. The seat is horrendous and even the aftermarket doesnt seem to help enough. But I just rode mine from Vancouver, Canada down to LA and back through the PCH and all the national parks i could find tho so maybe I’m expecting too much from the little thing. Plenty of 2up riding, tho i wish it had a sissybar for the passenger and better luggage options

For the second one, I think you guys got way too caught up in the engine. If you already have a lopey Harley, perhaps you want something different. Why do you want a second bike that’s similar? If I have a Harley, I want a sporty I4 or triple as my second… rev for days

Vickie - TU250’s are available in NV. Most are $3000 and up. Bought a RE Hunter 350 for $3000 for my learner. Under $3000 is hard in today’s environment.

IMO - if he is inspired by the 790, the 390 or its ilk will be a continuation of that. The dirt bikes/SMs will be a different ball of wax. You can pick up used 390s cheap.

MSF beginner course is $50 in Michigan. Mostly paid for by the state. And when you get out, they give you a slip which gets you your CY endorsement on your license.

Same in Ohio. I took mine a couple decades ago at the Honda plant in Marysville. It might have been a little bit more but it was given on brand new Honda Rebels. Rode my VTX1800R 70 miles to the class on my permit. LOL

@@sociopathmercenary I got my endorsement back in the 80s in the UP. I had to take the test administered by the state inspector. EVERYONE taking the test that day rode their motorcycles to the parking lot, even though that's completely illegal...the inspector just ignored that. We all had been riding without the endorsement, but it was a small town and no high speed roads around so good practice. I really would have benefited from the class back then. I have taken the MSF advanced class recently, which is also $50.

I bought a 2010 Multistrada with higher miles, new Road 5 tires, chain, sprockets and desmo service with belts for $4000 from a dealer. Pike's Peak could become a future Classic but in general, Ducati has completely walked away from that gen (and prior) bikes that are not already "Icons" of the classic sportbike era. Parts are limitted and the same dealer could not reset the Desmo reminder, despite being a the original seller of the bike in 2010, without intervention from the Mothership in Italy. And for something completely different for Stefan, the original Moto Guzzi Stelvio. Vicki...Rebel 250, Virago 250, old Shadow 500, Ninja 250, GN125, if you hate her Buell Blast.

If I were a manufacturer, I'd want vehicles I built a hundred years ago to still be seen on the road. You just distanced me even further from ever owning a beautiful Ducati. I'll stick with Honda and see if it outlives me.

@@nonyabusiness4151Then Ducati is not for you. I bought to have a owned an Italian and plan an epic trip across Cali with it...then likely part it out. Fun bike but not any more fun than ones with better support. Basically everything pre-2015 is kinda off the manufacturer's radar now.

Ok, guys, your Harley bias is showing again ha. The first rider seeking a connection was absolutely teed up for a Harley answer. Any Twin Cam Harley would have been the perfect answer. Weekend get away comfort - unbeaten aside from a Gold Wing and so many modifications exist to get the exact fit you want for yourself and a passenger. Value - Like you guys mentioned, these bikes aren't being made any more AND they have a cult following. As more and more of these bikes are wheelied to death I only see them climbing in value. 20-40 years from now, these engines could see price increases just like the Knuckleheads and Panheads of the past. Passing it down - What's more American that passing down a Harley? Again, Panheads, Knuckleheads, and Flatheads have already been passed down multiple generations as family heirlooms and Harleys have that classic motorcycle that looks like a motorcycle style that is timeless. Horsepower - Buy one with 80hp and make it into a 120hp bike by watching Patrick Garvin's videos. - also accomplishes the wrenching goal. WRENCHING - I don't think there is a better platform for U.S. based builders to tinker on with both style and power parts being plentiful.

Completely agree 👍🏼 HDs were the only ones that came to my mind 😅 I own a 13yo already Ultra Limited and still shines along with many of the era. Might not be growing in value but hold it very well 😎 For sports, adventure and Japanese/ European, these guys are certainly your go to 👍🏼 but cruising, touring and HDs, look somewhere else for advise 😂

The problem here is "Future Classic" which is how we focused on this pick. Which implies some level of rarity. We're not showing bias here, Harley is clearly a hugely popular platform which means scarcity isn't there. There is so many of them... that being said, we could have made the argument for the XR1200 Sportster... But probably not the best for a passenger...

@@SpurgeonDunbar I would argue that some specific Harley models would hold more of a collector value and rarity, for example models with a springer front end, an early FXR, the V-rod maybe, early CVO’s, other special edition models, most of these models check all the boxes of the questioner and are already “classics” in terms of them increasing or holding value. Also, I was thinking the moto guzzi California as another good choice.

As someone who has fallen (low speed, no injuries) - it can be weird for a time to ride, but just keep riding and the feeling will disappear. Also I wasn't any of the presonas from dating games, but I did ask you for advice some time ago. I ended up with KTM 890 SMT, which was a wild car in my selection. Now after 3.5k miles, I can say I love that bike. Enough power to have fun and get into problems, but not too much to be scared of it. It is also comfy for longer rides and can be paired with 890 adventure accessories to make it even more comfortable if someone wants to.
