Hey, you said don't add any salt when you were mashing it then you said add a teaspoon of salt, so which is it, add salt or not?

Kia ora, I want to keep my bug going and I want to store my bug, in saying this, do I put some of the bug starter aside for storage or do I break off a piece of the dough to store?, also, how do I go about storing my bug please for later use?. I like the idea of the jam jar with the raw potato, what are other common ways of storage. Nga mihi

Hi, I have been working on getting my bug established since Sunday. It's foamy on top with a few bigger bubbles and some smaller bubbles visible down the sides of the jar. Is it okay to give it a try now? I read in one recipe that it should be "bubbling madly' and in another that it needs to "double in size" before use.

I'd go for the double in size before using it. Not always an exact science tho. Every one has their own way of interacting with their bug. It took me several attempts before I got it right.

Kiaora koe.e te kai mahi. I have always been asked do I feed the bug? In my experience I have never fed my bug every day if at all. It is very interesting, but if if works for you very well, however you may end up with a large amount you don't want. Simplest way is just leave in the fridge in closed jam jar with a raw potato. This will last forever until needed then only do i feed it and leave in a warm place no sugar added. Incidentally the sugar is already in there from the start.

Kiaora koe, salt can hinder the raising of the bread, I may have said it in error.

I can't wait to start this. I'm sorry I'm pretty thick but how much starter do you add to flour or is it all by feel. And how do you store it to use whenever. Thanks so much for the lesson.
