Winning a brilliant game with the Dutch feels like a fitting tribute to your old man, as I've heard you say he taught you this opening. Sorry for your loss but congratulations on such a fine game under difficult circumstances.

Fantastic commentary. I always feel like I learn something when Simon goes through a game, pointing out the key decisions, hidden pitfalls and typical GM strategic considerations! Entertaining game too.

Condolences to you for your father’s passing. Great chess content, as always, and great to see you win a game with black against someone with more than 150 ratings points than you.

Ng5 is an impressive tactic! Great to hear your thoughts again. I actually like it that you mostly keep the engine off, because I appreciate the complexity of the position more that way: Scary attacks for both sides, very unclear which attack was going to prove better.

Yes, very impressive. I would't have looked at Ng5 cause it looks like black already lacks fire power in the attack in the first place.

@@nickburggraaf3977 Yes. Furthermore it's a backwards knight move that's also an empty square sacrifice. It has all the hallmarks of being very difficult to spot. As a puzzle, I would perhaps find it, but definitely not during a game.

What a crazy game! With such a nice finish :) Great victory, Simon, against a very strong player. Winning a tactical game against a young prodigy with Black is very impressive. I guess you're just too good at your kind of game. Should not have messed with your Dutch :D

Just found this one of yours, and glad to see you posting again. I bought a copy of your book "The Killer Dutch Rebooted" (being old, I prefer books - you know, old = stupid! ha ha). Anyway, back in the late 90s I was playing a lot of Stonewall Dutch, and had one of my best games with it against the ChessMaster 4000 computer program (nothing like todays's computer chess, but at the time was the best home chess program one could get). Your above video reminded me of it, and I still have the game score, and I think you might enjoy it. (You will see where I dither around move 40 or so, hoping the computer would give me a draw, as my end game technique is generally dismal, but I did ok in this game). Oh, and while the CM series had "styles", like Alehkine-Style, or Fischer-Style (which I beat twice; so it ain't no Fischer), it's very best play was from the "Chess Master", which I never did get a win over. Sigh. [Event "Dutch Stonewall by transposition; My 4th Victory over top CM style; 10 sec/move; Pentium 200"] [Site "Chess Master 4000"] [Date "1998.01.10"] [Round "1"] [White "CM4000 Alehkine-Style"] [Black "Me"] [Result "0-1"] 1. d4 d5 2. Ng5 was a lovely move to win a typically mad GingerGM game . I followed this game live on Lichess, trying to figure out what was going on. No way did I ever see Ng5.

Simon is such a great teacher and entertainer - I say that latter because I genuinely think if you have no interest in chess you would still probably find his videos a good watch! Here we are seeing 2 GMs play, and it is so instructive to hear the ideas communicated to all levels. I just got the GingerGM Play like Tal DVD that I am guessing was made a few years ago, but the 'few years ago' is irrelevant, it is instructive, fun, and more importantly has a few things I could literally try in my next game!

Empathise with your comments at the end. I packed in otb in my 20's. When your heart is beating like you've run a marathon, but you're sitting at a chess board, this cannot be good for you. Love the game, but too stressed out by it.
