I have a Rheem 2 ton Scroll unit that was installed in 1995 and the only 2 issues in all these years was a capacitor in 2018 along with a condenser fan. I have cleaned it every spring and covered it every winter. My ole Rheem is the last of the R22 workhorses!!

This implies that there's a 410a unit out there that doesn't leak. I'm pretty sure Dupont invented 410a just to sell more refrigerant.

Rheem and Ruud have a small defect in them, for some reason or other they always leave the wires touching copper lines especially the older units.if you pick up the bundle of wires that are touching the top of lines you will find a little burn mark under them and that is where that hard leak that you can't find is

I have a tiny brush for the service valve port when they leave the caps off. I brush around the inside of the port then give a tiny press on the schrader to blow out dirt and sand. I'm afraid of the sand going into the line set and breaking something lol.

"Sunday afternoon"... More 'gas and go" nuances - thank you. Would like to see all the valve throttling that takes place to do this. Could get a better look at the sight glass too on the Testo guage. You've got my vote for best format for insight HVAC videos! Love that always shot of the nameplate at the beginning. (Couldn't make out the refrigerant or pounds on this on though.) And thanks for giving us a nice long well-focused look at the guages when the comes.

I find most coil leaks to be caused by bad airflow. Coil sweats too much. Water sits on coil too long etc. Formicary corrosion. Almost every 410a coil I've found leaking also had undersized ducting. Not all. But alot.

I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, laws and rules are different in different places. I'd just like to point out that if you did a gas'n'go like that on a system here in Sweden, not only would you loose your certification and never get it back again, you would also face criminal charges for environment crimes. Filling a leaking system without finding and fixing the leak first is extremely illegal here. I mean, in theory, me hooking up a manifold to my car holding 400 grams of 134 could render me a prison sentence.

I'd actually like to see a video where the service technician doesn't add any gas " just to get them running " and repairs or replaces the defective parts. The words " fix " & " repair " are so freely used that the customer is under the impression that a " fix " is a permanent solution. Had this fix been applied in most other situations where the customer could see a liquid or gas emanating from an appliance then merely adding gas would never be accepted as a " fix " .

9 times out out 10 it’s the evap coil leaking on those Ruud systems. Just pull the coil door off and when you see oil you already know. Hopefully there’s some warranty left.

I really dislike the gray cans for every refrigerant now. Like is this how cheap these bastards are gonna get, they're gonna worry about saving over like what, 5 cents per can? Sure the amount is high in the end, but you know what aint fun is a tech having to check what refrigerant can he's taking, and making sure he aint puttin in the wrong one, and knowing half of the types of techs where I'm around, I'm going to see mixed refrigerants like crazy. I wonder if there's somewhere we can complain about it.

The funky fan blades has to do with the “frame rate” of the camera and the speed of the fan. The frame rate of a video on the computer (and your camera) will be 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, or 60 frames per second. In other words, the camera is taking a series of still images every second at that number per second. Our brain connects the images together to show motion. If the speed of the fan is an exact multiple of the frame rate then the fan is at the same place every time the still frame is taken and it looks like it isn’t turning. If it is slightly faster or slower the the fan can look like it is turning forward or backward. Since the speed of an electric motor is typically 3600 rpm (600 revolutions per second) or 1800 rpm (300 revolutions per second) then the fan will appear stationary with a frame rate of 30 or 60 frames per second.
