It's a shame we couldn't get Nestor and his sons or Neoptolemus as a faction of their own (and not some random special unit). This game has so much potential to be exploited. Wether having a whole historical Bronze Age expansion adding mighty empires like Egypt or the Hittites (and their enemies and allies in the Near East), or having another Mythos approach with mythological units from the Oddyssey, the Egyptian and Canaanite mythology, maybe even naval battles with monsters like Scylla, Charybdis or the winged sirens. They really missed a good chance here
@interstellarlapisthecccp4946 Жыл бұрын
None of those things belong in a game about Troy. They should make a Bronze Age mythological game, however, which includes Greece and the Middle-East.
@DiocletianLarius Жыл бұрын
@@interstellarlapisthecccp4946 bro, what? Nestor is one of the most important characters in the Iliad, he's like the wise-advisor-Gandalf of the Danaans and helped them resolve their differences more than once, specially during their constant infighting. And Neoptolemus is Achilles' son, he was the one who was inside the horse (Achilles died before the Greeks even breached the city) and he played basically the same role as his father during the rest of the war, being a monster in the battlefield and leading his myrmidons. He also killed Priam and Astyanax (Hector's son). So yeah, also a huge character. Granted, Hittites and Egypt would be a stretch, but it would be cool to have other Bronze age civs; plus Hittites kinda make sense as we have info about the era thanks to them. Like about the Assuwa confederation (who opposed the Hittites and were defeated, they probably were the same alliance who opposed the Danaans) and afterwards with treaties with Wilusa/Troy and his king Alaksandu/Alexander (who shares name with Paris). Also in the game we have Scythia's Arimaspoi and Griffins, which aren't even mentioned by Homer or other Epic/Troyan Cycle authors, so why we shouldn't have some Iron warlords and Pharaohs too? We already have Memnon's Egyptian troops.

It’s funny, I usually play in Mythos mode for access to the expanded divine favor effects, but other than playing through the expeditions once each to see how they worked, I haven’t actually touched the mythic monsters in Troy. I knock down their recruitment buildings when I find them in a settlement. I don’t replace them when they eventually die off. The only ones I actually put to work are Giants, because they serve a role that’s really needed and useful on the battlefield (and because, of all the mythic monsters, they’re the least mythical). None of the others pack enough punch to make up for their cost. And I’m so disappointed that this is all the expansion we’re getting for the game as a whole. I wanted… more. I wanted to play as Athens, I wanted to get more out of the East than Captain Leopard-Print, I wanted to go north of Greece, I wanted more reasons to keep playing the game and exploring a really under-loved part of history.

@@matthew5200 Yeah but the Minoans were supposedly a non warring/peaceful civilization due to little evidence being found to indicate warfare on the island of Crete during that time. The final and saddest part about that is the fact that the Minoan civilization collapsed around 1450 BC due to the arrival of the Mycenean Greeks who conquered the island. So a Crete roster would most likely be very similar to the other Greeks. They could definitely add in some cool unique units for his roster though as it would be a very aggressive, rush heavy roster.

I ask this with zero disrespect, and little experience with the historical titles, but where does the depth come from with the historical titles? With the fantasy titles you can effectively throw in a unlimited number of wildcard factors. Flying units, monster units, magic, crazy cooking that gives weird effects, one side coming at you with magical machine guns and the other having literally fighting with a rock tied to a stick. Plus individual units can have absurd stat lines that reflect a need for a insane amount of strategic options. Troy feels a lot like it’s I got some human dudes with a sword and shield and you got some human dudes with a sword and shield. I got some horses you got some horses. The differences between Trojan human dudes and Greek human dudes have to be pretty marginal. So are historical titles about who can master micromanaging their roughly equal armies that largely mirror each other in composition and quality, or are historical titles way deeper then I am giving them credit?
@I2dios83 жыл бұрын
The depth of older historical titles isn't really present in Total War Troy. The nuances of each individual unit were more apparent, not to mention that terrain was a much bigger deal back then, as well as siege battles actually being multi-layered with various lines of defenses. Older Total Wars were simply a different beast, focusing on grand strategy more than the individual interactions between each unit.

Historical titles even if it’s just what I feel makes me feel like I’m changing history itself what if the prussians had marched into France and taken the entire region it opens up a whole set up of alternate history as well as it brings a highly tactical advantage as you have to actually match up units similar to warhammer but you have to have a more strategic mind because of how much close the units are

I love fantasy and have 2400 hours in TW:WH2, but I do see how less is sometimes more, and not having access to lowkey broken shit like magic, dragon breaths etc. changes the game and allows - and sort of makes - you to focus on the smaller stuff and enjoy it more. On the lower difficulties in WH, melee infantry is totally fine, but not exactly necessary at all. On the higher difficulties, it is straight-up crap (even though I still use defensive melee infantry because I like using it and dislike cheesing). In Troy and other historical titles, there is just more focus on that stuff, albeit at a price.

From my point of view, newer and newer games had less and less innovations besides graphics and beautiful siege maps that are terrible to play. All CA does now is cut content like Naval combat, reload animations, avatar conquest from Shogun 2, ladders out the ass, merchants, etc. And give us beautiful looking models and maps. I can forgive the animations, but never the naval combat, especially in Warhammer! Besides look at WH1, 4 emperor damned factions at start. You pay 60$ and get 4 factions, 5 if you preordered, then 12$ for every other race that should have been already in game for the price of 60$! CA has become a lair of greedy, lazy goblins.

And I don't get why you complain so much about Egypt when Memnon's roster is clearly a mix between Nubians, Egyptians and even Sea People (based on the wall painting of Medinet Habu?). If this DLC would be "Homer-ically accurate" it should have only black Ethiopians as units as I don't recall Memnon having anything to do with Egypt and the Sea people, we should be glad for the diversity at least. We don't know what race that goddess is and he being a king from Ethiopia we could only assume the "truth behind the myth" is he being an Aethiopian/black guy. And from a mythological pov, we could say that his mother was the reason he was black, as she is the Dawn goddess, having a Sun-drenched son and all that. I don't know if he should be a "feathered barbarian" or a bantu but we also don't know much about Aethiopia during 1200-1100 b.c.e, I think this generic tribal look is better than anything. @@belisarian6429 Troy isn't going to have a thriving modding scene nor one to that degree. That's just the reality. It's far too late and lackluster as a game and those ideas are far too large. Even then for that amount of effort molders aren't going to make it because there's a lack of desire and that would need complete overhauls to the game. Just being fantasy isn't enough to switch to a completely different fantasy.

@@cameronroy2129 Well modders did it for Medieval 2 and Attila I think, complete fantasy overhauls to LOTR and Warcraft, so it is not impossible and in engine that supports spells, flying entities, single entities and other advanced things, it is much easier. It isnt about it being fantasy, it is about what engine can do. I am not saying it will happen, I am saying it can happen, Troy opens possibilities that Warhammer TW did not. Also saying that Warhammer is better and therefore making LOTR, or some other is pointless is like saying Medieval 2 TW is best historical so no point of making Rome, Attila, Shogun, Napoleon.......
