Great video. You should really try and put out more videos like this with Joe taking people step by step through jobs. Like the 383 build. It's like having a buddy show you how to do something not some guy throwing $$$$$ at something and then just showing the results.

We would like to try and get more videos like this out, we are glad you find them helpful!

Thank you for posting this really helped me rebuild the pump on a cj5, also I have just been running ATF in the pump and it seems to work fine as it's very similar in viscosity, helpful being able to use the oil for two applications rather than having to horde all sorts of oils for every little thing.

Hey Joe - great vid, thanks for the walk-thru! Hoping to do a similar rebuild on the Federal pump on my '68 300.

rtchrg440 federal pumps are not too much different. Maybe I’ll do a video of a disassembly, though I don’t have a kit for one and a need for one right now.

I believe the new bushing only seems looser than the current one because it is split, and will reduce in diameter once installed into pump shaft bore.

OK cool i didnt know they came out with a 318 in a 71, i have the same pump as far as i can tell in my 68 road runner although i think it has a 69 70's 383 motor in it so i think the kit should work for the pump

Same here and I even took it apart again and used a magnifying glass to make sure!

I thought there was more to them. I had fine metal particles floating around but the pump seems to work OK. Not sure what's going on...

I have a 1984 Dodge D100 Custom. Has a 5.2 318 and I have been having So Much Difficulty finding a power steering pump Bracket. Where could I go to find one??? Can you help me with this issue???

How much play do you have between your rotor and your thrust plate? I’m rebuilding my Saginaw and noticed there is a lot a slop between rotor and thrust plate. Would be great to know if those parts are meant to be loose or should they be sturdy and no play. Thanks

I watched the video 3x just to make sure I didnt screw up and I did not. My pump doesnt leak any more but my power steering doesnt work either. I checked the fluid level and it is full, I am wondering if the pump is just cavitating and I should have primed it.

Do they make kits for 68 newport pumps? Mine as the reservoir.
@joesgarage99534 жыл бұрын
Ian Morado yes for the federal pump and the saginaw. They are both not too difficult to repair/reseal. Having a factory manual for the component diagrams is very helpful

I did not see where the two (2) o rings on the shaft were replaced. In my rebuilding I replaced them with o rings from the kit and it is impossible to press in the shaft without damaging them. Hoped you had a trick way to do that.
@joesgarage99532 жыл бұрын
There is no o-rings on the shaft.
