Entertainment sometimes needs to be wild. Lest everything get samey and boring. Having an aliens vs ghost story would of been interesting by itself especially with how well the characters are written and how good the animation is. The whole dong and sexuality subtheme is basically there to grab your attention. Its a... VERY WEIRD hook, but it works remarkably well.

That's why there is a disconnect when people treat this as a weird anime trope rather than a traumatically blunt scene

Yep. Both based on an actual urban legend. There are many different variations but the most common I've heard when I was still living there is that you'll be driving through a tunnel on the highway and suddenly hear a knock on the window and when you look there's a grandma matching your speed. She doesn't really do anything she's just....there lol.

If you're wondering who Ken Takakura is, he is the manliest actor who actually existed in Japan. Internationally, Takakura-san has acted in Michael Douglas' movie "Black Rain". He has played numerous characters like, Hitmen, Yakuzas and Police Inspectors.

Ken Takakura is the name of Momo’s celebrity crush(real actor btw) and the male mc just happens to have the same name which is why momo was surprised, the male mc also says one of the actors lines “coincidentally” specifically the “I’m an awkward guy after all” line And it also explains why she even dated the douchebag in the beginning which was bcuz said douchebag looked like her celeb crush (which tbf most teens tend to have bad first dating experience)

Turbo granny is a real folklore and apparently she protect young girls along with her story. So it adds a layer when you realize she pops out the cellphone possessing Occult-kun and they both want to protect her.

@@mugen4516 it's not really a spoil. It a insight on the Japanese folklore about turbo granny and it being an actual thing. Can't remember if the manga ever straight up tells you that but it's something most reactors don't know. If you watched the video she's even confused as to how turbo granny got on the ship. This is just giving a look at the actual lore to help make sense to the scene.

they have/had 2 versions of the subbed and i think this one is being pushed on crunchyroll or whatever most reactors use but the grandma kept saying "Dong" instead of "weenie" and in the being when ken says "I know your in love" the other version he said "I Know what you're into" and stuff like that just made more sense for the context

If u look in the manga on the part where ken was showing her his book on conspiracies, all the ones he showed r real conspiracies. The anime actually censored and changed it from the manga. In the manga the president that went to mars was president obama. And there is a real conspiracy theory about president obama way b4 he was president going to mars. The story was alleged by a lawyer, Andrew Bassiago, himself also being one of the individuals (youths at the time) selected to travel to mars. He sat in the same classroom orientation with obama, then known as barey satouro, and was told that he would one day be a president of the US...

from what you said about the shows going on a poll on Patreon, none of them are actually slice of life, rather just dramas or romances, but actual slice of life shows are just shows where anime characters wonder around aimlessly and are usually pretty boring, they have no actual story progression and most of time are cute girls doing cute things genre to appeal to lonely or horny men, just warning you to not watch them since they are that boring or just take this message in consideration, as always u guys make awesome content!
