This is the perfect song. One Christmas many years ago I was feeling overwhelmed by the phoniness that Christmas had become -- one big celebration of meaningless material excess. I ended up in a church on the poor side of town. No one else was there. I walked to the front and there I saw the most naive and unpretentious Nativity scene. Mismatched figures, real trees that were losing their needles, old-fashioned Christmas lights that had seen better days. This was exactly where I needed to be. The real spirit of the holiday. Hope in the face of uncertainty, faith that whatever we do counts when our hearts are in it.

Bless you, Noe. You made me very happy with this memory. It brought back beautiful memories of my dear parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Yes, the trees lost needles back then, and the dear Nativity scene was pieced together over 80+ years. For a few seconds, I felt all my loved ones near.

☆ EXQUISITE!!! ☆ Richard's Golden Voice ~ Perfect Vibrato, Timbre, Dynamics, Phrasing ... SO Refined ... Those Lyrics, ... & Walter's sophisticated accompaniment ... What a Gorgeous Treat for the Ears & Soul! I played it repeatedly when it first came out, & played it recently for my 94-yr-old mother who's also fallen in love with it & asks me to play out over and over again ~ she's blown away by it saying emphatically, "that's just SO beautiful, I can't believe it!!" with tears in her eyes. Anyone with a heart would certainly agree! It's Richard at his finest & this world is blessed to have his talent! I've loved him since the days of Pages, feel privileged to have seen him in concert with The Misters 3 times in '86 & '87.. (AT THE STAGE twice & gotten his autograph/shaked his hand once/tell him how much I love their music ... how often do you get to tell one of your musical heroes your admiration & appreciation to them directly?!) I'm looking forward to hearing him sing in Heaven, as he will surely be situated among the Angels' Choir! Even at 70 (as of 2023), he's STILL got it! Having listened to this a time or two since my earlier comment, I need to add that the partnership between Richard's singing and Walter's accompaniment is that of classic Art Song, done exquisitely well. Fischer-Dieskau and Dalton Baldwin would be impressed, and teachers of Art Song interpretation would be wise to include this as an exemplary example.
