As a Midwesterner, I find new age language/branding difficult to relate with- and I hate to admit it but I hear a few new age phrases and my eyes start to roll. However, I really think my prejudice turned upside down when I got a few minutes in to this. Hearing Julie talk about her life experiences, the loss of the kid's dad and the impact of relapse- that's real life and it is so refreshing to hear people talk about their experiences as a family, a couple and as individual. The vulnerability here is just beautiful, thanks for sharing this.

Well as a Torontonian (Canada) Rich's speech inflexions are purely California; he's vital, he knows what he thinks; he's opened minded and lives with a woman I find very hard to like, I would also sleep in a tent but history is vr powerful. I will post above but I've had some time since watching this podcast and am currently working on the videos of Tom Petty whose 1st wife almost destroyed him. She was his abusive father re-incarnated; he never fought back; she could hit him, sleep with other people because he had no right to a life without her when on tour … is anyone seeing a pattern here? Also, post-Oprah, yes it's great to have couples counselling on the internet (not) but there are some serious boundaries that this woman crossed … and he let her do it.

Im glad Julie is getting the recognition she deserves with all her many gifts and wisdom and beauty. I can completely relate to how frustrating it is to have to wait for your gifts to be recognised or shared with the world due to constant adversity . We really appreciate the strength and devotion that you both show towards one another and your various art forms and businesses. And thank you Rich for always being prepared to show up and share the more vulnerable and raw aspects of yourself. The earth is a better place because both of you are alive and giving so generously to your community 💜

Just loved this entire conversation. Every conversation through every talk, every book, every movie, every interaction is only a process for self evolution. Thank you for such an honest, accountable, open conversation. I'm looking forward to share my experience with someone in similar ways and I had just said it aloud today to someone today. Universe listens when you are willing to talk through your whole undivided self...I guess it might be equally true it presents exactly itself through its representatives even when we walk in divided, unwhole to make us whole and realise our wholesomeness, our holiness😊. Stay blessed

Grow wiser together, or run away from the challenge separately! it's beautiful and inspiring to see that some people like you two stick to the first choice. keep it up even though i felt that you're trying to prepare everyone including yourselves, for a "cool" DIVORCE! I liked the interaction, even though it was too much personal.

I came to this episode of the podcast by chance. The way Julie talked about her divorce to hers children's father and describing the end of a (romantic) relationship as "completed" (and not as a failure) gave me a fresh perspective on my own breakup and makes me think that maybe I can have a new and different relationship with this person.

I enjoy watching couples express their honest opinions to each other…I can relate to the missus due to past relationship knowledge..We’re humans we’re always going to make mistakes but unconditional love should be able to do the, for sickness and in health, the good and the bad etc and riding it out to the end…and what I know of trying to fix other people is a way to try to fix oneself and when you reach the point you no longer feel the need to continue to do that you have fixed yourself…

I don't crave cheeze just glad my partner isn't dumping his entire life history on me and we are best friends forever which is not happening here. We used to have a Siberian huskey and Pomeranian and he adopted her; she used to take food out of his mouth, because he let her; this the kindest version of what is happening here. It makes me angry, the arrogance of anyone when someone else does everything to get better and be responsible ….it's ugly

I love her perspective on relationships...tough lessons learn from experience. But knowing your death date?? I am recovering from a fundamentalist religious upbringing...my alarm bells were going off....it sounded so familiar but just cloaked in new lingo. Isn’t the whole point meditation is we don’t know what tomorrow will bring...we embrace the now and live there? The lust to have certainty leaves us prey for the mind to invent dogma to comply...in my experience. But she is otherwise and bright light and amazing human!

One detail from this podcast I wanted to point out to everyone here. The road to a new life will be bumpy and not a linear growth curve without falls along the way. Julie talks about how Rich did not finish his first Ultra and subsequently relapse into drinking. I imagine it must have been hard for Rich to not even finish Ultra after sacrificing everything for it (and his family was sacrificing too). It must have been enormous pressure. He of course put himself back together again and he is where he is today. Stay the course if you stumble here and there along the way. It's normal and probably expected to stumble along the way. We just never hear about these details (unless your wife shares it on a 2 hour podcast :P)

One has to wonder if there isn't just a slight strand of narcissism running through Julie's personal brand of spirituality. Claiming to "know the spiritual essence, practice, rituals and awareness" to get someone out of their body and into the other realm is, to put it mildly, quite a massive claim. You can say a lot about the spiritual traditions of the world, whether they be Dzogchen or Tibetan Buddhism, but the fact that most of the authentic ones are based on a system of strictly guarded lineages, and careful and selective transmission, at least ensures that ones experiences have to subject to verification by a community of adepts. If the master asks you the koan, and you give the wrong answer, the master knows you have yet to attain the highest realization. Is this particular brand of spirituality not just another warm blanket for the ego to wrap itself in? The world in this view revolves around the ego; the universe sends it signs, there is a divine purpose oriented toward making it grow, it believes in its power to manifest the things it wants. All this talk of being a special kind of being, of being divine, capable of magic, having special knowledge. I have to wonder if there isn't another way of being in the world that avoids all of this egoic scaffolding. Or is this what the highest reaches of human development looks like? Or is there perhaps another way of apprehending the mystery. One that boasts no ability to magically alter reality. Where the ego is not granted a heroic leading role in the unfolding drama. In which there are no bells and whistles and grand fireworks. Just simply this.

You are uncomfortable with her claiming something. Instead of being critical of others, why is her claim bothering you to the point where you would spread criticism on online platforms? What do you need to work on in order to be comfortable with the her life? Maybe your ego is preventing you from seeing her words, her power and her confidence as a beautiful expression of her life’s ritual and practice, and love for the divine and connecting with it.

Rich, Julie, whoever may receive these messages... I am asking for more vulnerable, honest conversations about your relationships, and allowing spirituality and divinity to play a part in these human “role-like” relationships. As a 20 year old woman, deeply invested in my divinity and spiritual practice, I am finding myself trying to navigate my long-term romantic relationship with my partner. Any insight from experts or wiser guides is so appreciated. I listen to this podcast often, just for reflection purposes. I would be so honored to hear more.

Instead of Netflix and phone and social media, lit a candle and ask for the divine force to guide and direct me. Julie Julie asked and negotiated and be assertive in her ideas and ceremonies are what she wanted. Very spiritual. Pay attention to spiritual world as we live day to day. Beautiful lady!
