Rickey I agree. We have struggled as Black people to receive acceptance and acknowledgement of our talents by the Academy. This is a huge detrimental to our race and those who have worked so hard to get us to this point in history. I watched the Oscar's this year specifically to cheer on Will. What he did in front of the world was atrocious. I don't care for Jada but I am tired of the conversations around our hair. We get that enough from Whites but for us to do it to each other is repulsive. Will lacks emotional intelligence. He and his family need intensive therapy there are so many issues here, but they should not have played out at the Oscar's. Chris really should get an award for how he handled himself because so many others would have whooped Will's ass on that same stage and suffered the consequences later. I'm disgusted by the whole thing. This has really set us back in how we as Blacks are viewed by others. Those with platforms and voices really have a responsibility greater than their own. I really appreciate your comments Rickey.

He apologized to the "academy" when he took the stage but not to Chris he needs to be locked up. Did he and his family including his disrespectful son Jaden consider how his conduct dishonored Mr. Williams and Venus and Serena who were present? When Mr Williams should have been lauded and celebrated for all he has accomplished he (Will Smith) prevented it from happening. Such a shame. Chris Rock needs to let the cops pick him up in handcuffs so that others may be deterred from such actions in the future and then let him apologize in $ and cents with a 40 million law suit. Anyway a teaching moment for my teen son that we can not physically attack or assault someone because of words, what was said that you don't like. People are dead and gone because of offense and their feelings being hurt or either they're in jail. I pray for healing and humility. Pride always comes before the fall. Sometimes we just need to leave both the devil and God out of the mess that we get ourselves into. The devil didn't come for Jada or Will with that joke and God didn't want Will to react as he did. 😂😂🤣 you right 50 cent would have beat the brakes off Will Smith too and Will would not hit a White man like Brat Pitt

No. Chris doesn’t owe any apologies. It’s just words. Will needs to practice self control. He did this because jada didn’t like the joke.

A sad situation. IMO Will was trying to prove his manhood after being imasculated by Jada for YEARS! He was absolutely WRONG on many levels.

💯💯💯 on EVERYTHING, Rick. I was up until 4am FUMING over that despicable moment. I was pissed that Will finally stooped to his wife's level by giving her what she's desired her entire married life. I was pissed that Black on Black crime was committed yet again made worse by its worldwide stage. I was pissed that Will wasn't escorted off property and was still rewarded with his Oscar. I was pissed that Will likened his actions to that of Richard Williams. I was pissed that I had lost yet another Black American hero all because his wife was offended by being likened to a strong badass superhero. I was pissed that the community applauds that warrior gene form of protection. The only thing I was proud of was the way Rock handled himself in that humiliating moment. And like you...the ONLY reason I kept tabs on the show was to be able to celebrate the anticipated 1st time win as it happened. Unfortunately there was no victory worth celebrating. Did I mention I was PISSED??? 🤬

I ain't mad or pissed but I was confused. These Celebs are funny. I don't get into them that much to make me emotional. You're getting to involved emotionally when you don't know them personally.
@janedough64102 жыл бұрын
@@tj7179 I understand the sentiment. The underrepresented was behind this production in all facets. After the exclusion, the protest.... and finally getting the opportunity, the most respected individual in the industry brought what folks worked so hard for to the gutter. So there's disappointment because of expectation. I'm peeved that others were robbed from their joy and acknowledgement. The negative imagery is an infinite loop and a setback.
@josielabome62202 жыл бұрын
You spoke so well here. Everything I have heard does not comprehend to your sentiments. It was shameful and cruel what Will did. He is not perfect, but he could have showed grace and humility by talking to Rock later on that night and explaining how he felt about the joke. Just bad all around

Personal Story: Some years ago, I met Rickey Smiley in a shopping center parking lot in Irondale, Alabama when I lived in Birmingham. I asked for his autograph and didn't have any paper or pen in my car, and Rickey kinda clowned me for not having that. I didn't get mad. I didn't get an attitude. I didn't want to slap him. He's a comedian. I expected to get clowned. But he is such an amazing person, I enjoyed having the privilege to even meet him. That same year, at the Stardome comedy club in Hoover, Alabama, Bill Bellamy railed on me and my (now ex-) wife in the front row. Some of those jokes stung, but I didn't get mad. I laughed and said, "Wow, man...shit got me good!" Even if you are offended, there's better ways to handle things like that.

@@StaplesPropertyAcquisitions Brotha, I'm not trying to determine anyone's reactions. What I am saying, respectfully to you and anyone else reading my reply to your comment, is that as Black men, we are already garnished by society with predeterminations about our behaviour in public (terms such as being "prone to criminality" and "naturally violent behaviour"). I am of the opinion that while he may have been justified in his feelings about the joke (because I do not know), his REACTION could have been different. That's why Denzel and Bradley Cooper pulled him to the side and checked up on him. Think about it - how might this affect his career? And because it was televised, even though Chris Rock declined to press charges, Los Angeles county still could. You know the saying "two wrongs don't make a right?" This is a perfect example of that, and again, my only position is that I wish he'd have handled it better...because Chris Rock's response to it was seen as way more mature.
@MillionaireHoyOriginal2 жыл бұрын
@@StaplesPropertyAcquisitions Two things anyone that likes to attend events should know 1.) If you're in the front of an open floor concert, you are in the moshpit area and 2.) If you're sitting front row at a comedy show/roast, then you will be used for crowd work material. Your point stands that how one person reacts to a situation isn't the same as another's, but if you're the type that can't take a joke or a shove, knowing the two things I pointed out above can help you avoid putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation. As far as Will goes, he didn't "snap". He laughed, noticed Jada's response then took a long premeditated walk up to Chris Rock and sucker slapped him. Love will, but lost some respect for him after that.

I totally agree. He could have yelled for him to apologize to his wife. Smacking him in the face while he’s doing his job was completely unacceptable. Yes. He’s going through stuff, but still. Not okay.
@Prod.MurdaOff27002 жыл бұрын
Chris made a honest joke based on her hair style , not on the fact about the medical condition she's going through that he did not know about . I like both cats equally well . They have done a lot for the black community . But Will was wrong , totally . Yet the look on Chris face told me he didn't know and was confused about the punch , slap , what ever he received . He handled it like a true man that he is and has displayed . And by not pressing charges , shows his understanding and remorse for his comment . I'm sure he had no idea of Jada's condition . To say that, knowing of her condition , would have just been vicious , and that's not the Rocks style when he knows a person is going through something like that . As for Will , yes he should have handled it differently . Like slow to react or speak , and quick to think . By approaching Chris back stage to find out if Chris knew of Jada's condition when making that joke . Like a man , a gentleman . He was dressed for the part . Then once he established knowledge of, or no knowledge of . Request an apology at that point , and part as respectable GROWN men . Setting examples for our young , as they are already so very lost . Our young black men . Will knows now how wrong he was . But with all that has been said about him and Jada , he had exceeded his limit . He was at his braking point , and that joke was the straw that broke the Camel's back . So to the public I say , cut him some slack . He's human , and believed at the time he was defending his wife's honor . If Chris can do it , and he took the punch , then the public shouldn't have no problem . As for Will , wrong , right , good , bad , are ugly . Let's not forget the first amendment . Your a smart man , there's no need to go into details about that . Put it to rest , and let's move past this . All of us .
