Unfortunately when the rotor goes it usually takes every thing with it (sorry I didn’t make it) while you have it apart you should have between 2-5 ohms at rotor. And of course check stator and as far as regular goes if the other two components are junk. Guaranteed so is the regulator. Don’t just try a new regulator unless you like buying them and last most likely the one thing I never see anyone check is the plus ins. Mine were burnt looking because they were. Hard wire that new system together and that will prolong the grief with this unnecessary Charging system. The real problem overall is that rotor doesn’t like the heat. I’ve seen other models that installed a internal fan with the rotor. Don’t know how well it works but I’m looking in for room in case to see if I can adapt to my 1981cb650c

Thanks, Exactly what I was looking for. I have the same model bike with the same problem. Hopefully I can fix it after watching this Video.

Check the OUTPUT of your rotor and Stater.... The regulator only "regulates" the output of those. In my case I was able to clean my rotor with Elect cleaner.... some call it "TV TUNER CLEANER" Mine was BLACK !!!! a good cleaning and a new seal to keep water out .... and my output was good. RICKS also makes an updated Rotor and Stater witch is much better than the stock one. the 79 CB650 was known for a low output Stater and Rotor. Hope this helps I also use the RICK'S CDI units.... They make good stuff !

Correction the rotor should have between 4-5 ohms not 2-5

Anything below 12.5 your running on battery

Hi good arfernoon sorry for my English is not the best, I just got a cb650 1979 here where I am is cold I know that affects the performance of the battery, today I try all the dates with the tester and are similar to yours, I can’t not ride it yet cause I’m not allow but I always start it up every day but every 2 weeks or maybe 3 dies the battery and I have to charge, do you have the same problem? Or you think that is the battery that I should replace it

If your not above 2,000 -2500 RPM's your charging system is not putting out a high enough voltage to keep up with what your using to keep the bike running. You have to be above 12.7 volts to keep the battery up. I have found in town setting at lights and not moving much the voltage goes down. :( But if your out just riding and your RPM's are above 2,000/2500 rpm's it will keep the battery charged. You can update the charging system like I did... Rick's makes everything you'll need... If you want to keep it stock..... just make sure your not just setting at idle more than you are above the min RPM that will keep your battery up...12.7 is the min amount. You really need to be around 13.2 to 13.5 with the old stock system.... This model had charging problems... Its just the system they used. Have Fun with it... There fun bikes !

@@seanwynkoop474 thank you!

You have a bad stator most likely. Should be making more than 12v at idle and around 14-14.5 at cruise rpm. Sorry.
