Definitely a little more noble than the unfortunate technique practiced in my neighborhood, known as invisible SigSauer.

i like what he says about black belts kind of letting you dictate how you get submitted, and blue belts fighting to hold positions more. that is SO true. at the higher level is when bjj truely becomes the gentle art. but it's a hell of a rough road getting there.

@bigsexypanda He meant 'invisible' as in 'unseen'. Rickson talks about jiu jitsu and the small things (feeling) that make up the art. He calls it "Invisible Jiu Jitsu".

just found these vids. I really like his attitude. him and rickson make me want to train more BJJ. most folks make me want to practice my takedown defense and my elbow to the back of the head...

These lessons are more relevant and important than ever before with the explosion of sport jiu jitsu academies making people believe they are learning self defense when its not, it's sport.

@Submissions101 This is not really a reply to your post just a comment. I have trained Jiu Jitsu since 1994 mostly with the Machado brothers and others of Graice Barra lineage and this is one of the best descriptions of the difference between upper and lower belts as well as the theory behind Jiu Jitsu moves and movements I have heard to date. Thanks for posting the vid.

this is what i want to achieve before I get married and have a child to teach to them. I'm 19 now and a blue belt, I'm guessing another 10 years and when im 28, 29 and I'll be able to teach my child the principles of black belt jiu jitsu from a primary perspective.

He is talking about JJ in a more sophisticated way, a perception that goes beyond the mechanics. It's like chess, during practice, you see and know what will happen, or at least you know many of the possibilities that can unfold from a given moment. However, your opponent may also know, and here comes the state of the art, when the instant creation of an alternative, subvert to the logic and mechanics. Watch the video "Rickson flips like a cat" you will see what is subverting the obvious.

Great answer and segway for me to ask; why is there a "wrong" or "right" way? My old injuries ended my Jiu-Jitsu before I could even test for blue belt, so forgive I never learned all the traditional stuff. Does it make a difference in fighting? Logically it shouldn't. His choice sort of answers that anyway.

@scarred10 Oh Yes, sure... As I told you, everybody would kill them... Today it is easty to speak, However, 17 years ago, nobody was there to let the ass on the line, but they were. These guys are great, and if MMA is the sport it is today, that is for sure, due to Royce, Rickson and Gracie Family, who kept the old school of judo/jujutso "ne waza" safe during many decades. But anyway, today everybody is expert in MMA (Mixed Martial athleticism) ...

@scarred10 Boy, you know nothing about Rickson Gracie. If you have a chance to train with him, for a few years (like I did) you will learn something. Today is easy to criticize, today everybody knows everything about MMA (Mixed Martial athleticism) and a lot of pseudo-masters talking a blue streak. Be humble, and thank Rickson and Royce for that, and watch what they did with "good wrestlers" like Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn at f 90´s... When nobody was there, they were: no rules, no time limit.
