Concepts (Not all, but just for my own notes): - When in Closed Guard, prevent the guy from putting his hands on your chest because that will help him posture up - Try to break his posture by pulling your legs up, even when he attempts to stand - Pay attention to the timing of when to pull with your legs when he stands (typically, when the 2nd leg comes off the floor is the perfect time to pull back with your legs and break his posture) - Don't be in a hurry, there is no threat if he can't open your guard, time is your friend if he keeps expending energy to pass your guard - When attacking with your arms, make sure you're pulling his collar with the intent of bringing his shoulders down so he can't posture - Fighting his posture and keeping him in your closed guard is 60% of the battle EDIT (After re-watching 6 months later): - Make sure that with any grip you take of his lapel, your arm is stapled over his arm. (This will make it harder for him to posture up)

agree. I would add, that once you have control of the grips and posture, you're next step should be getting your leg over the shoulder. from there you can attack whatever you'd like.

The scissor sweep is basic but it took what felt like forever to get it good enough to not telegraph it. Probably my favorite sweep from the bottom.
@bjjreelz Жыл бұрын
Main takeaways: 1. Don’t allow to stand up. 2. Deny posture by winning grips 3. Block the chest grip as most dangerous 4. If you lose fight for chest grip go over with collar grip 5. Perfect timing to pull opponent down is when second leg gets off the mat

I think what makes Rogers game feel so "basic" is that everyone knew what he wanted to do to you. He wasn't pulling from a fancy bag of tricks. He just did it so well that nobody could stop him getting what he wanted.

There’s a reason that the army doesn’t call basic training easy training. The more I listen to Roger, the more I realize that I already have all of the techniques that I need to be as good as I could ever possibly want to become. I’m not even a black belt yet, but I have all the same tools he does. I just need to learn how to use them better. Little tips like keeping your hands at the center of your chest to prevent someone from grabbing there are so helpful. I feel like they literally advance my understanding of jiujitsu by months if not years.

god I felt this statement, my goal is usually to keep my elbows close to my opps inner-thigh, I never go for the center chest grip I typically go for the high lappel, pushing the opposite knee to the mat prevents the triangle, but its allot of effort to stack pass like that, the keeping the grip on the center of the chest is so simple yet so advanced, you are essentially pinning your opps center line, its hard for bottom player to set up most techniques by this little grip, what a video osss!!!

The most valuable lesson from this video is that the "basic" techniques can make you a world champion once you master them. So many times we want to learn advanced techniques, but winning is more important than how technical your finish is.

Love closed guard. ABP. “Always Be Pulling!” Not literally “always”, but it’s a good rule. I love to lift my hips and put weight down on my opponent’s hips to keep them from standing up. But sometimes you just need to know when where to pull the collar/head, and bring them down
