We were allowed to have our phones at school but we had to turn the ringtone off and leave it in our bags. Kindles were allowed tho, and I would use mine to read fanfic in class my senior year. 😅

It's different in America depending on which region (its a huge country, you can be driving for nine hours and still be in one state) and your social class/economic status. When I was growing up in Alabama (The Deep South) I went to some schools in the countryside, which the kids going there were usually working class or just at the poverty line which means nobody had phones in elementary. We did get this one rich girl who was only going to our school because of her home being on the bus route but nobody tolerated her because of how much she'd show off her wealth and how she was able to get her hair done all the time and her clothes oh-so-fancy and new, I even pushed her in the mud once because she tried being a bully and she cried like a baby lmao. When I moved far up North, total cultural shock. Went from poverty line to working class, but in general peoples' attitudes towards things shocked me most. My house was in the district of a very fancy rich school- not private, but its basically rich public school because of the area we were in- and around this time I got my first phone, a blackberry, which I LOVED (and I still hate touchscreen phones, they're so hard to type on) but this was around the time touchscreens were dominating, so I still got bullied for being poor and mocked because not only was I still wearing hand-me-downs and clothing from Goodwill, but my phone was soooo out of date! On the bright side this meant nobody tried stealing my phone and it was VERY hard to damage.

Lmao I remember when this was me in primary school. Got my first phone. It was a Nokia. I could only use the built in msging thing and could only play like 2 games on it. And it was super small. But I was happy with it. Then u have my friends who continuously laughed behind my back for the type of phone I had (they told me later on and tbh I laughed too bc eh, expected)

Well here in Greece the situation is kinda different. Theoretically you can not bring a mobile phones to school but practically most people carry them around. Usually the teachers pay no mind until you do something else to annoy them. In that case they report you for carrying a phone. I was pretty lucky when it comes to this rule because I went to a school that you have to give special exams to get into and people from all over the city can attend so this rule does not apply because some times school ends early and you have to inform your parents. Here we have a nearly non existent dress code and this is it. In conclusion you have to annoy a teacher or be unlucky enough to come across that one Karen teacher in the entire school to get punished for something this petulant. Of this happens to you though you can be suspended the may call your parents your phone may be confiscated forever or till the end of the year Also here if someone looks through your bag teacher or student with no valid reason they will be in serious trouble. There are literal horror stories here of teachers searching through bags and it is a thing that rearelly happens do yea this is how Greece works.

Same at my school. Could not bring: laptops(tablets didn’t exist yet), no cellphones, MP3’s, CD players, video games, and no calculators (because students could “cheat”) we had to do calculations on paper unless we had calculus class and, then we had to use the school issued calculators under teacher supervision. Couldn’t even have a tamagotchi. Anyone caught with these items would have items confiscated and, items would not be returned until the end of the year. Didn’t matter if your parents came and threw a fit Karen’s had no power back then.

i remember when i went to private school (germany, berlin) there wasnt a rule saying no gadgets but you would get shet by teachers anyway, so i brought my ipad sometimes so my mom could text me for important stuff. i used it also for entertaining after school while waiting, i had no problems, until i was friends with a boy in my class that all the girls liked for some reason. after that i always would get reported for bringing an ipad and 'watching innapropriate content'. the only reason the eacher could not punish me was because i watched and read that said content in english and no one could understand what i was reading/watching.

we had bad checks at my school. But I brought my phone every single day. the way I did it was I cut out a pocket into my the side of my backpack and I stuffed my phone up there and I sewed a zipper into it. the zipper was small so no one saw it.

I have a case where I went to two different primary/middle schools, one in a big city and one on the countryside in the middle of nowhere. In both you could bring your phone but turn it off during class. And let me tell you, the countryside one practically had no rules, kids there were wild. From bringing alcohol, cigarettes, condoms or even weapons such as knives and airsoft rifles to school. And in the other one, I got aggresively sent to the principals office for accidentaly not silencing my phone. Mind you I was a 8-9 year old kid and that incident still haunts me

In Indonesia is the same but slightly different. You CAN bring your gadgets only in senior high school (SMA/SMK). Sometimes the school would check your phone though (basically violating a child's privacy) but in my case it's rare to happen.

yup, my school was the same with the addition with a bunch of surprise events and since the phone booths dont work, you need to borrow phone from the pejabat so during those sudden change in schedule youll see a bunch of students lining up to use the phone. my mom is always paranoid Id be kidnapped so I got forced to bring my phone, I keep it in the bottom my pad packaging so its be awkward for prefects to find out, also got pass being checked since Im a science student (yay! chemistry~) and they dont wanna interrupt our class.

I’m Malaysian too but I go to those Chinese private schools and yes, we do have this rule. My situation is almost the same, we have prefects spot checking our bags but not during recess, it’s literally any time of the day when a prefect just comes in and chase us all out and spot check our bags then have an appearance check like the airport security. Before MCO, students needed to go to the discipline office to get a permission slip for bringing a phone, they need to power off their phone when they reach school and store it at a locker in the discipline office, but now, all the students can bring phones to school but we cannot use it in the campus or else the school will confiscate the phone. This is the rule in my school for now.😅

Bruh when it came to bringing ur phone to school in my school, if it was found, they'd take it for 3 months and the code of conduct shit stated that if it gets lost or damaged that u can't hold the school responsible despite it being in their possession And they would have a uniform checks RANDOMLY so gl if one random time of day they decide to search every bag and pocket of urs and u were the one to bring a phone😗 But ig the nice thing abt the uniform checks is that different teachers would search u differently. My class teacher never wanted anyone to get in trouble so she had the most slack search. And then there were ppl like the deputy principle. OH BOY SHE MADE THE GRADE 11S UNBUTTON THEIR SHIRTS ONCE TO SEE IF THEY WERE WEARING THE RIGHT COLOURED BRAS- Istg, I was so lucky to dodge the uniform checks by pure luck

When did you watch anime (including for younger audiences)? What's wrong with watching anime? In those cases of strict households, what do you do in your free time at home if you can't own whatever gadgets back then? Also, why you can't have school trips?

I brought my Samsung tablet to school for quite some time around 2014 (i was 14 at the time) and right after school, my friends and i went and watch Love Stage and read BL fics on my tablet in the Art Room (Bilik Seni) cuz our art teacher is my friend's mom (so if there's anything we want to hide, we just gave it to her 🤣). Also, everytime there was an exam, the teachers would collect our phone and put it in a box to make sure nobody's cheating during the exam....but I just gave the teacher a dummy phone (which is an old phone that's already broken) and I had my working phone with me so i can listen to songs while im doing my exam ehe (i wore shawl at the time, so i just hide my phone in my skirt's waistband and wore my earphones under my baju kurung and scarf 🌚) i miss those times.... 🥹😭
