Ridley.S Announces Alien Awakening Will Explain Engineers & Juggernaut Origins

It’s been more than 3 years since Alien Covenant release and although we got different updates in the past about Alien Awakening, the movie always seems like it’s far away.
However, recently Ridley Scott announced in two interviews that an alien sequel is in the works and he explained what story he intends to tell in alien awakening along with other details about the franchise in general.
This will give us a quick summary of everything we know so far about Alien Awakening, which will put in context the two recent interviews and give a better understanding of what’s coming up next.

First of all Damon Lindeloff, one of the scriptwriters of Prometheus said this in his interview with Colider magazine:
“It doesn't feel like they've gotten there yet in Covenant, Covenant felt like it maybe was a detour prior to them arriving at the place of origin of Engineers so I don't want to spoil any place that he might still be wanting to go, but the conversations that Ridley and I had about where the story goes next were largely about the place where the Engineers were from and less about the events of Covenant.”
Ridley Scott actually confirmed this idea in another interview that he gave in mid June 2017 and I’ll leave a link to it in the description. I actually think he revealed way to many details that’s why the full version was removed and only a small part of this interview is still available online.
In overall Ridley said that in Alien Awakening Engineers will return to the planet 4 to investigate why one of their seeded planets was decimated.
He also explained that in his vision, Engineers are gardeners of space who pretty much like Gods periodically visit worlds that they’ve seeded with life to observe how their creations are evolving.
Another important thing that he said in that interview was that the story will eventually lead to “the planet”, which is strongly implied to be lv 426 featured in the original alien.
Then in October 2017, during the podcast with Empire Magazine, Ridley said something that seemed contradictory to his earlier plans for the next alien installment:
“I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself on a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one. "
There exists a theory that Engineers fundamentally reject the idea of AI and artificial life which is a possible reason the Engineer in Prometheus killed David in such a violent way.
However, in November 2018 The empire magazine released a special edition called Empire classics Alien which explores every single alien film and provides an update about the sequel
In an interview in Los Angeles Times, this is what Ridley said about future plans of the alien franchise:
"I still think there's a lot of mileage in Alien, but I think you'll have to now re-evolve. What I always thought when I was making the first one [was] why would a creature like this be made and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That's the thing to question, who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea”
Ridley gave another interview to Forbes, in September and that is what he said about the future of Alien:
“That’s in process. We went down a route to try and reinvent the wheel with Prometheus and Covenant,”.“Whether or not we go directly back to that is doubtful because Prometheus woke it up very well. But you know, you’re asking fundamental questions like, ‘Has the Alien himself, the facehugger, the chestburster, have they all run out of steam? Do you have to rethink the whole bloody thing and simply use the word to franchise?’ That’s always the fundamental question.”
They will follow David to LV 426 where he will have created a xenomorph homeworld using colonists on the ship and xeno embryos, therefore perfecting the organism that started in Covenant.
Then there will be some sort of a war between a xenomorph world created by AI and Engineers, which will lead to the complete destruction of LV 426.

I completely agree Shaw was our key into learning more about the Engineers, what Ridley did to her was basically what happened to Hicks and Newt in Alien 3. We followed these characters through everything they been through, surviving all that only for them to be killed off, OFF-SCREEN in a sequel i mean thats just fuckin dumb man. I lost some respect for Ridley Scott doing that to Shaw, she even said at end of Prometheus that she wanted to go where they came from.

When Prometheus first came out comments online from many die-hard Aliens fans were negative to hostile. Investors for its sequel surely pushed Scott to put xenomorphs back in the center to recapture this early space horror feel... rather than exploring the engineers' story and its philosophical implications. Time showed though (as it is also clear from the comments here) that Prometheus did not just restart the Aliens franchise but it expanded it with a new story line that excited intellectually the audience. For some fans it took some time to realize it... but better late than never!

But if they had paid proper attention they would have seen that all most all criticisms of Prometheus were not the lack of Xenomorph. They had many great alien creatures in fact. The glarring issues were a non-sensical story compounded by painfully stupid character decisions, often used to further the plot as well as many characters that were utterly forgettable, due to a poor script.

Stupid decisions were made in alien, and also in aliens... and even in Alien3, which so far has been my favorite. But since Prometheus included the largest ensemble cast, and the coolest spaceship with the most high-tech gear, they should have been prepared for anything they came across, but it all started with the stupidity of those two guys. They didn’t want to follow protocol, they wanted to leave. And then their dumbness gets them lost. And then like a moron the one guy tries to treat an Unknown alien life form as if it were a pet cat... in the Larry Niven known space stories, he starts off with a rule that is expounded upon by his character Beowulf Schaeffer, who was apparently the father of Louis Lu of RingWorld: “anything that you don’t understand can possibly kill you, until you do understand it“ - so to me, Prometheus is the ultimate expression of that stupidity, because none of these people, including Shaw, recognized the danger that they were all in which was easily seen at the start of the debacle, particularly when there is the mural of a “deacon“ in a chamber containing alien weapons samples and a huge engineer head. Any intelligent person would have ran from that room. And of course David’s aberrant behavior toward his employer/father and his (unknown to us at that time) daughter. There was something wrong in David‘s clock even before he wakes everybody up, he is snooping on Elizabeth‘s dreams, he is keeping the existence of the patriarch of Weyland secret, and he challenges vickers. And he is very rude to Holloway, although Holloway pretty much deserved what he got at David’s hands.

Prometheus and the engineer story felt right, it drew me in and was a more cerebral, grownup expansion of the legacy and lore of Alien. Covenant felt like Scott was just pandering to the masses, it was tacky and cheap.

Nah, I think people disliked Covenant because it's extremely dark ( victory of the AI over humans, destructions of an entire planet of "gods", creepy Android kissing himself ( LOL ) And killing Shaw on screen would have seemed like a dead end to the movie, instead we slowly discover that David killed her to create the Xenomorph. Very good horror / thriller story line.

@@magusking9215 I think the main reason why so many disliked Covenant was because one half of the fanbase were unhappy that Prometheus didn't have any Xenos in that movie. So Ridley tried to take it back to the usual format of Xenos running around killing a group of humans, but he also tried to incorporate the elements of Prometheus to do with the Enigneers. Trouble is he kinda failed on both things because the way he handled he Xenos felt boring and everyone had seen all that before, and the whole Engineers issue, he just didnt reveal any real answers or give any further insight into them and their backstory. To sum it up Covenant failed because that movie did the exact same thing that TROS did, try way too hard to please BOTH sides of the fanbase. Covenant ended up hardly pleasing anyone.

I want all those things too, sadly the "mainstream audience" win over everytime because the Studios that make these movies want them made in a specific manner, to appeal to most people out there, not just us fans. Personally i hate that its like this and if it were me, i would simply give Ridley one last chance, let him do one last movie his "Alien: Awakening" exactly how he wants, with full creative control but i would give him one rule, one instruction. This last movie has to tie up into his original ALIEN 1979. He has to conclude it and show exactly how that derelict ship, the original "juggernaut" got there. Then i would make a whole slew of new movies set ages forward into the future, NOT reboot but just take the franchise forward possibly about David bringing the Xenos to th Engineer homeworld trying to wipe them all out.

But i do feel the huge mistake Ridley Scott made was trying to please both sides of the fan base with Covenant. He should have just showed us what happened with the Juggernaut and how it got to LV-426 in a flashback in that movie, its not hard to explain, then he could have passed things over to Neil Blomkamp to continue the story set after Aliens, years on into the future.

Aborting an extremely well planned mission because someone heard a John Denver song, not wearing breathing equipment on a foreign planet, not following quarantine procedures, firing guns at your fuel source on your ship, slipping in the same blood puddle twice, trusting a robot that likes the aliens. It would take all day to list them all.

I have waited so long and kept a secret candle lit to have another Ridley Scott Prometheus time line movie in the making. Didn’t think it would ever happen. If they are going to connect it with aliens they need to make the engineer in the juggernaut a larger version piloting a slightly different variant of the ship. He could be one of the engineer overlord's who are of a larger size and a slightly different branch of the engineer race. Or they could make it that the engineers engineered the pilot himself and integrated him directly into the ship itself. Just a few easy ways to fix the slight differences and maintain continuity, seeing how they've already laid the groundwork for it.

I think I and most fans can agree that the primary problem is really "We want more." I love that Scott is taking the time to flesh out the actual universe. I hope when that is done other directors can get the nod from Disney to flesh out smaller stories within that universe, the same way Mandalorian does for SW. (Consider, for example, how well Outland's moral themes work with Alien 3/4. The alien, the artificial, the implacable, and stuck in the middle, us, sometimes at our best and so often at our worst and most venal.

I'm in the process of rewatching all the Alien movies but in order starting with Prometheus which was my favorite. There is enough material from the engineers to make 2 more movies. Where did they come from? Why did the decide to destroy humans on Earth if they created them? How did they create the alien? What was their world like? And who were the big Easter Island/Mt Rushmore type heads? Also what happened after Elizabeth and David left together? Theres a huge chunk we missed that we get clues to when Daniels flips through the scroll on the table and sees drawings of Shaw and the alien but there were tons of scrolls on the wall so what was in those scrolls? Lastly Walter catches a mistake David made "When one note is off the entire symphony is ruined" was a chance to find out what happened to David. I'm so psyched about this!

*Best way to correct everything:* Make WestWorld the series linked with Blade Runner 2049. -The David A.I on earth can come from the Park replicas after Dolores tries to make them as Organic as possible. -Blade Runners are then contracted to hunt down the Synths. -Every situation has a story available for it, such as the Engineer Colony destroyed by David can be shown functioning normally before David arrives.

Also the WW host bodies are NOT replicants. They are at best simulacra of a human form on top of a robot - basically robots with faux fleshy exteriors but still artificial inputs like radio and optical and that weird nut/egg in their head is their computer core which can be removed and scanned to read their memories. The 'blood' they use is basically just to simulate a living humans skin color and heat, rather than actually needing it to continue working. Replicants/Nexus on the other hand are actually genetically engineered artificial humans that do not actually match humans genetically or in capability to reproduce until Rachel.

Is it just me, or is the Engineers and the A.I. aspect of these movies so much more intriguing than any of the actual Xenomorph parts? I mean, don't get me wrong.... it has been great to see the origins of the Alien (as sometimes confusing as it may seem at times), but to me the whole Engineers aspect is amazing. I absolute am obsessed with that part and would absolutely watch 50 more movies based on them and the storyline. I also love the A.I. story that runs perfectly parallel to the Engineers. The A.I. being the creation of humans from Earth, who were seeded by The Engineers......The whole creators creation coming to kill its Creators Creator is quite "Kill your master" esque. . . . . It would still be nice to have the Xenomorph storyline run it's course and possibly even give us a REAL ending or continuation (if you will) of what happens to the Xenomorph race..... in future tense, past the timeline of the original Alien movies....... Do they find a way to spread their kind in more places, do they have any possibility of having another evolution? And of course if their is a fate for their kind. . . . . . Also with a completely explanation to the "goo" and is it nano technology with organic parts and so on and so forth and where it's origin is. There is so much AMAZING possibilities and Ridley and Damon are a perfect match. I despise the fact that they had some lackluster response to Covenant (which has slowed down any progress and money) because so many people just don't know what a great movie is anymore..... They just want some ridiculous carbon Copy Xenomorph movie that will cheapen its rich history......What are waiting for....a "Jason X" like abortion of a movie? Let's just hope creativity and intelligence will win over shitty blockbuster.

I love the entire franchise. Ive watched the films in order. I started with Prometheus, then onto Alien Covenant and then onto Alien 1979, then Aliens and then Alien 3. Now I will watch Alien Resurrection followed by the Alien V Predator. Then I will wait for the new Alien film to add to the ensemble and watch them all in order again. I think the development of the story is brilliant. After Ripley sacrifices herself in Alien 3 we need a development of the story and the introduction of engineers, other planets, the birth of aliens, and the answering of many questions regarding the Aliens and how such demonic, other wordly beasts came into existence is surely the next step for the films. Thank you Ridley Scott and all the Alien teams. I can't wait for the next one.

Well, if David was working with an already existing “blueprint” with the xenomorph eggs, that would make much more sense to why the Space Jockey had eggs in his cargo. The only thing David did was “perfect” the already “made” beast.

@Planet Purgatory - That’s neat, but I wasn’t entirely saying that. David didn’t make the eggs, the Engineers did. This explains why the Space Jockey had eggs as his cargo. Also, in the original script, David sends a transmission to the Weyland-Yutani corporation at the end. The script also made it sound like Walter was killed. Also, the Space Jockey had a giant hole in its chest- that would only make sense if it was an engineer, as they are huge.

The David storyline with the eggs is TERRIBLE and will never make sense connected to the original movie. The ship in Alien was supposed to be extremely old, sitting there for thousands if not millions of years, Dallas used the word fossilized when he described the Space Jockey for a reason. David is a literal toaster in the scheme of that timeline, he didn't and couldn't have had anything to do with those eggs unless he discovers time travel in the next movie

Can't wait for the next one. IMO David harbors hate towards the engineers for being dismantled by the one in Prometheus. I feel he was hoping to get some sort of praise or acceptance from the engineer and Weyland. Considering Weyland believed the engineers created him/humans and praise from the engineer would place him above Weyland, his own creator, thereby making him the superior one which he already felt he was. David is out for revenge and to prove he is superior, experimenting along the way is just part of the process. As David says in Covenant, " idle hands are the devils workshop" ✌️Just my 2 cents ✌️
