Thank you for the great information as always. It is amazing how consistency in your form is important in so many things. A golf swing with different clubs. Archery with anchor point for the draw / billiards with the que stick stroke and so many more. Even being a carpenter the consistency of the hammer swings. The biggest one of all is the consistency of our own moral character. You have that in spades Mark with the content of your postings.

I have watched a number of my fellow benchrest shooter who are not getting small groups, let alone good scopes. They usually blame the ammunition and say things like, "22 ammo is always inconsistent", or "it's the ammo". However, as an observer of what they are doing, it is inconsistent cant. Just a small twisting of the rifle can give an inch or more difference in point of impact at 50 yards.

One of my favorite things about your channel is that you don’t mind telling it like it is, despite the fad, common, popular ideas that seem to run amok in the shooting community (that usually start with “my dad said…” or “that famous guy said”). Thanks brother.

A good explanation of something I’d never considered, i.e., the locked/consistent cant when shooting for groups. For that purpose I’ve long thought that a heavy rest that the forend just rests on was better than a bipod. But now that you’ve pointed out the advantage of a bipod whose ability to tilt left/right is firmly locked down, I’ll definitely need to give that some consideration in the future. I may have to figure out how to attach the base of your slider I have to the bench rest head. Thanks as always.

Yes, I agree completely. Especially with my air rifles. Bubble levels are a must. Side note you may like Mark. I am now shooting consistent 3" groups at 200yrd with a .177 cal 13.4gr slugs. I also thought that was an interesting view to use can't to contend wind.

In silhouette shooting (off hand shooting little metal animal targets) the odd shooter will have their scope fastened a bit canted. The cross hairs will still be held straight up and across as normal while shooting, but the rifle will be held a bit off (canted) so it can "nest" with the head and body of the shooter in a way that suits them better. As long as everything remains consistent, it can work well for some people, but at a glance it looks odd because we are not used to that.

Thanks for the video Mark. I cant understand why shooters who shoot any distance past 400, 500 yards do not ensure their scope is level and plumb. In fact a good plumb bob is a way to check your cant. Good bubble level installed correctly is good for shooting. I shoot right handed. I just have to simply open my left eye for a moment, see my bubble, make adjustments if needed, get back in the scope and fire. Cant is vital for accuracy. oh yea my first cant was supposed to be humorous😂😊Keep up the good work. Looking forward to 4 years of Trump Vance administration.

I try to explain to people that when a firearm is canted, any adjustment to the optic is made in two directions at once, as the adjustments are being made at an angle.

So, got a new rifle with a match chamber and chasis in 22lr. Didn't have a bipod for it, but did have a cheap front rest. That should explain alot!😅 Been fighting finding an ammo that works well. Turns out, it must be the rest. There's no way this rifle doesn't shoot any ammo. Finally found an adapter for Arca to get a bipod on the rifle! Now I'll be able to set up lock it down and start shooting better!

So my question is does this only apply when using your subtension lines? Because everything is circular and the crosshairs are in the middle so they should always be at the center but if you can’t your rifle it would obviously throw your subtension lines way off
@markandsamafterworkАй бұрын
Yes matters on center hold as well, but only applies if looking for accuracy, Cheers

Good morning Mark, offtopic question, I'm considering as my first rifle a Sako S20 precision in 6.5 creedmore, many people talk about this rifle in a positive way, have you ever had a chance to view or try this rifle? I like it's design! it's affordable, they say it's easy, very very precise "out of the box", and good for rookie shooters. I love seeing your channel still going on after all the years I've been following! Thanks for your time, have a great day! Cheers from Italy🇮🇹👋🏻

No bublles ... Just mounting the right way. I trust my eyes for the vertical alignment. As long as it works I'll keep doing it. So far so good! 1265m on a 80/80 cms wide target. 10 on 15 shots on the paper. Group was about 45 by 52 cms. I can go with that. (243,100 grains soft point...). 😇 🖖🏻🇨🇵😎🇨🇵😎🇨🇵🖖🏻

How do you make sure the rifle barrel is perfectly vertical and on the same vertical plane as the scope reticle when installing a scope ?
