The belts were superb and together with my roll pin became my standard wear. The cape carrier as you call it was usually referred to as the poncho roll, I ditched that and used utility pouches all across the back with the poncho bungeed to the top round the yolk. Nobody used the large pack we used issued Bergans or civvy rucks, I used the Berghaus Crusader my Father bought me on graduation.

I had an amazing set of "58 in the 90s. The best thing I ever did was take it to a professional and have a second D ring installed on the right shoulder so I could have an angle torch AND the large pack. I also had a D ring added on the padded area on the back to attach a rope clip. It was money well well spent. AND I also used the metal clips to attach the front strap to the ammo pouches. It seemed a good idea at the time

Great and detailed vid as always! "Design flaw" usually means 'designed without input by users'!... a common occurrence.

Not ever used or worn by the designers........ a new first then.

Worth cross referencing this video with the DDR UTV equipment video also on this channel.

Do you know why the stiffeners were removed? It seems to me like it would make it better, I have a third issue set and have always found the floppy sides annoying

Did anyone actually use the Large Pack loops on the Yoke? We certainly didnt, we put the pack on by stooping over with the pack front facing away from you, attach the hooks to the yoke D rings, then chuck the pack over your head and grab the lower straps

I have one if the early large belts and it's quite yellow/brown compared to my modes modern 58 pattern equipment, not sure if that's of any significance.

Strange, just an oddity from an individual content I'd imagine. A friend has recently acquired a set entirely dated 1959 and it's all in the standard dark green.

Kidney pouches with the little loops on the fastenings ..... we have already seen on another of Rifleman Moores videos, the mud, blood and beer that has spilled in the discussion into their use. Messy. So I gather, you have issues with the Larry large pack?
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
Doesn't everyne loathe the large pack? Purely from a point of ergonomic design it's an abomination.

I have yet to hear from a Servicemen that they liked it, I used one as a cheap work bag, after I fitted some D rings for a carbine clipped shoulder strap.... it had good shoulder bag features...... and sucked as a haversack even in civi use for true.

I purchased a Iraqi p58 set. Used by the republican guard. Do you have any info on that? Did Iraq produce these? Or were they purchased by Iraq? It’s so difficult to find anything on it.
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
As far as I know Iraqi 1958 Pattern was primarily manufacutred out in the far east.

Rifleman Moore interesting. Would you be interested in doing a video on it? There is practically no KZbin videos on Iraqi web gear or military gear in general.

Must admit that I never knew what the 'straps, utility' were actually for (and still dont) :-)
@RiflemanMoore4 жыл бұрын
A replacement for the supporting straps from the 1937 Pattern, which could be used as a form of utility strap, if needed. They are for 'unspecified general use' according to the fitting instructions.

Extend the Sleeping bag straps on the Larry Large pack, so you can carry the sleeping mat..... side pockets for misc personal items, I have seen in a Forces Regimental magazine of the era. You can buckle one to another so you make one long strap, you then fit it through the side loops of the magazine pouches and was worn round the back over your buns, buckled together ( the straps, not your bum) so the pouches are kept tight to the body and angled nicely.
