Question: can one leave a pre-recorded greeting that would come on when someone rings the bell, say, if you are asleep or out of town and wish to make it seem that you are home and can't open the app or reach your phone. The simulated greeting and pre-rendered conversation would automatically switch-on in substitution of your own voice or a live person.

App setup for me requires also finding the Ring wifi network (has "Ring" in its name). No mention of this in your video. Wondering if there are different versions.

What phone do you have? Typically that is the process if you have an iPhone.

So your Ring is on wifi but your phone is on a hotspot? That sounds like an app issue or maybe bad connection.

It is needed to get the right voltage to the doorbell and to the Ring Doorbell. So, I have a dual band router (2.4 & 5ghz) and have had issues connecting wireless security cameras and WiFi outlets/switches to it because the devices only like to recognize the 2.4ghz band but have a hard time finding it. I don't have an existing chime/wire connection, so I'm wondering if Ring 2 would have issues seeing the 2.4ghz channel on my router like my other devices, cheaper quality devices. Most of the others eventually found the 2.4 band, but I had to try many times for each, much to my frustration.

tnzmag11 disable 5ghz. Its not really much faster and goes through walls crappy. Just use 2.4, have less noise, more compatibility and decent speeds for everything to work consistently

Would I need to get that plug chime? Cause I was wanting to put one of the rings up but my house doesn't have any kind of doorbell. So would it work if I just got one of the rings and the plug chime and ran the doorbell for the batteries?

Yep! Get the Ring Video Doorbell 2 and the Chime. Your mobile device will receive all the notifications but the Chime will be nice to have changeable tones. The Chrime Pro comes with a WiFi extender if you need that.

How do I find my transformer.I have no idea where it is. I tested the wires on my existing doorbell and it show 18 volts is that sufficient?

I had to hunt awhile for mine. Sometimes they are behind the chime, in the attic or by the heater. You can try it with that voltage and it will let you know if it is not powerful enough.

If you don't have doorbell wires the best option is going to be the Ring Video Doorbell 2. It is battery powered and no wiring is required.

***make sure you have a 16V-30VA doorbell transformer ... DO NOT look at your current transformer and think "It's 16V, it will be ok" the important part is VA volt amps and you want the 30VA .. most older homes only have a 16V-10VA transformer

The battery does not last for a month, even when powered by a 16Vac transformer in a warm weather area like mine. I do not recommend the Ring Doorbell 2, and it seems other Ring doorbells have the same problem. See what Ring says: @t , trying to put the burden on the customer. To recharge the battery, it takes several hours and the inconvenience of undoing the special screw and losing it on the ground if not very careful. Also, as others have mentioned, the video and notification usually start after a person is walking away! And pointing the doorbell toward the front walkway with the street just beyond, then you get too many nuisance notifications if you want to catch someone farther out to give yourself a chance to see them coming. Instead, they suggest changing the field of view downwards to minimize unwanted detections. Their marketing is getting too many people stuck with these "not ready for primetime" video doorbells. The neighorhood video sharing and notification would be good if the unit solved the problems listed above and did not share so much of your private actions without telling you. And then there is the monthly cost if you want to see recorded history! Yipes, I was a fool to buy into this.
