I think the Harfoot "fall behind" doesn't mean they just leave people so much as I think it's their term for "died on the journey" or people who died by misadventure. It's a euphemism.

I believe it is both. If you fall behind you are most likely dead, and if something happened and you died - then they remember you as one of those who didn't make it, who "fall behind"

Thanks for the reaction guys! This show is visually stunning, down to every little detail. Numenor looks amazing, and the shots of the hall of lore, the harbour, the throne room, smithy, everything. The orc trenches and the battered landscape around them is very reminiscent of WW1 trenches, which would be an amazing call back to Tolkien's own life story

Damn, what a shout about Halbrand being the king of the Dead. So far i heard the theory about him later becoming one of the nazgul, or him being Sauron himself because of the fascination with smithing, but your theory makes so much sense!

King of the dead wouldnt make much sense, as he doesnt live anywhere close to the dwimorberg where the dead are from.

@@goterdordel7385 i think amazon made it clear that theyre ready to take liberties with the story. So its not as much of a stretch to think Halbrand might end up leading the people fleeing the southlands and when the time comes, refuse the call and hide in the white mountains. It would also fit his character so far, stealing, trying to do anything to survive and the implied care for his own people

See I thought that too, but the way he fights those guys in the ally was ferocious and tactical; like he has a second personality. My money is on the Witch King! It’s fitting because there are no known names for him

@@simonbaumruk73 Halbrand's character suites more to Sauron than to the King of Dead. The king of the dead this early in the show doesn't even make sense. I am not even sure that we will get this character at all. The whole point of season 1 is Galadriel searching for Sauron. Don't you find King of Dead as a cheap move this early in the show? Like do we even need wasting so much time on this character when it will much more smart to fully focus on shapeshifting Sauron? This season is concentrated on Galadriel - Halbrand relationship. Does it make sense to pair her with king of dead? I am not sure. For me Halbrand is Sauron seeking for repentance from early 2nd age in this form of a man. Then he will turn into Annatar form

(spoilers) Tar Miriel was actually sympathetic to the faithful while Pharazon (King's Men) usurped the throne by forced marriage to her. Her meeting with her father Tar Palantir (and the fact she understands Quenya) more likely shows she is operating in secret to avoid a similar fate to her father rather than her being an ideological opposite.

I have three theories for Halbrand: 1st - he turns out to be Sauron. 2nd - he is one of the kings which later become the Nazgul. 3rd - He's the king of those which are going to become cursed by Isildur. Btw - I think Arondir either will be able to escape in the next few episodes or he becomes one of the dark elves. Perhaps Adar changes him...

Arondir is a Silvan elf, and Silvan elves are all already considered dark elves. "Dark elf" in Middle-Earth doesn't have the sort of negative or evil connotation it has in most other high fantasy, it just means that the Silvan elves have always lived in Middle Earth and have never been to Valinor or felt the light of the Two Trees, and so they are considered dark elves, or "Moriquendi".

No spoilers but people are in for a surprise. You will know Souron when you see him. The audience is supposed to know while most of the characters are not. In the books at least. The stranger is a blue wizard I believe. This character is in the books but not during this age. But it's been reworked so who knows. Keep in mind ,in the books, the time period is thousands of years long. Great reaction.

Oh look the elves are all captured. Did the Orcs attack the tower? A very good question. The answer is most likely but for some reason they thought that this should all happen offscreen. Also Isildur's dad was doing ok until that conversation with his children. Just the classic thing in hollywood where instead of listening to his children he just tells them to shut up whenever they actually have a good point, or when they are in the right. He is using two examples to tell off Isildur even though neither were his fault.

@@igortytarenko9136 see, I’m not ready to do that. I’d really like to see them learn from the legitimate critiques and improve. I want more middle earth, and this is what we have for now. It’s happening one way or the other, so I just want it to be good 😭 I adore the practical effects, the landscapes and visuals, and honestly really enjoyed the relationship between durin and Elrond. I’m holding onto the aspects I did like.

I think Amazandalf is one of the blue wizards. If you're making a show set in Tolkien's world, you probably want a wizard or two, and the blue wizards are a really obvious and easy choice. They have no preexisting baggage like Gandalf/Saruman/Radagast, and since there's very little info on them in the books, the writers would have free reign to write the character as they please. That's what I would do. Also, I'm calling it now, Halbrand is 100% the Witch King of Angmar, or at least one of nine men.

So excited for episode 4 this week and for the rest as well. Definitely subbing after this to see what you think of it so far. I'm loving seeing especially certain locations come to life for the First time like Forodwaith, Numenor, Lindon and seeing Khazad dum in its prime and seeing the Southlands before it was tainted by Sauron into Mordor. So cool seeing these aspects come to life. Orcs are amazing too. It's hard to believe to think that we seen so much already compared to the movies ( cause of them being less and shorter of course cause of being movies and not a show ) and yet we're only 3 episodes in. Not even fully done 1 season yet not even halfway lol . And there's supposedly 5 seasons in the making. Like we're gonna see ALOT and I'm fully ready for it. 50 hours worth is what is gonna be near in total is what the showrunners are going for. They already planned their final shot apparently for the 5th season. They got alot of planning done which hopefully means a lot less of a wait for certain seasons . I'm just loving the vibe for the show and when it's completely out , can't wait to binge it all with the Hobbit and LOTR extended trilogies as a whole series. That's gonna be fun lol especially when I finally get the 4k versions of the movies. It'll just be even more on par with this show it's and shots it has with the HDR etc. It's great that we're back in Middle Earth again on a new adventure

I wish they weren't playing with the timeline so much. They haven't forged the rings yet, so the relations between elves and Numenoreans should be wonderful for at least another thousand years, and Elendil not born until centuries after the division between King's Men and Faithful. I wish they would just pick a pivotal event for each season and flesh out one arc at a time instead of trying to tie so many threads together at the beginning. This Numenor arc would work much better as a third or fourth season at least for me.

For whatever reason I forgot this scene exist in the last Hobbit movie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH3LqqOXh86Zmac This lead me to researching Galadriel more and now I'm questioning, okay so when is Galadriel going to be getting her magic powers? She apparently is so powerful because she not only was around during the age when magic was at it's strongest, but she was also a close student to some elemental gods. if those gods are going to be appearing in this series, then I'm exciting. If Galadriel isn't getting her powers and it's not from elemental gods, then boo. What the hell is the story arc with Galadriel going to be? I'm hoping it's not going to be the lame tropey arc we've seen a million times on the CW for her because no, just no with that idea.

It’s so strange how people read scenes differently lol I didn’t get any romantic vibes between Galadriel and Halbrand. He’s a roguish flirt type character, so sometimes he comes across that way. But I definitely don’t get vibe at all for them. I will say I think the showrunners say Celeborn was coming, but not in this season

@@MarieS610 I think the whole "will they, won't they" thing is such a overused trope that seems to find itself in everything, Star Wars being the last noticeably example, that people are just so accustomed to expecting it now. I hope they don't go there because you can do so much more than turning Galadriel into a CW character. I noticed the series basically made Galadriel as a starting character so to speak where a lot of what she's known for in the current movies isn't there. If they're going to do that, than I hope the plan is to give her every aspect we've come to known her as the series progresses. For example her magic is suppose to be a product of her being a close student to these elemental god type beings. If we're going to see that in this series, than I'm all for seeing Galadriel learning her magic on top of her other aspects in this series. Just no on CW storylines.

@@BenderDaOffenda I don’t think the romance will happen 🤞🏼🤞🏼. It with Halbrand anyway. Obviously she does get married, so that will have to happen at some point. But I don’t think we’ll see her learn “magic” in this series. She studied under the Maia Melina during a lot of the first age. I don’t think it’s a matter of her not having her “magic” yet. I think it’s a matter of her not having all that wisdom yet. She is on a singular track mindset right now. I think we’ll see her journey of experiencing things that change her mindset and bring about that wise and ruling Lady Galadriel we know from LOTR. I think it’ll be an interesting arc if they do it well

Just going off how they been portraying Amazandolf (haha I'm so calling him that from now on), doesn't feel like she has any magic at all at the moment. Which is why I'm suspecting the writers purposely pushed that aspect of her later in the timeline so it can be part of their series. Outside the terrible potential CW romance angle, she does have some good potential storylines being set up. Hope it pays off in the end. Also on another note, it took me a while to realize the elf with the Dwarf king at the moment is Elrond when first watching this show because I'm too use to seeing Elrond and thinking of him saying "Mr. Anderson..."

@@BenderDaOffenda Aside from the Istari, most “magic” in Tolkien’s world is not your traditional sense of magic. It’s in subtly. An unseen power almost. Consider in the films we only ever see her use “magic” in the traditional sense in the Hobbit when facing Sauron in Dol Guldur. She has her “mirror” in LOTR. Gives items to the fellowship that are somewhat “special” or imbued with a sort of magic. Her ring of power give her the ability to keep her realm of Lothlorien fair, and able to withstand the forces of evil in the later wars. She obviously has foresight (although many high elves seem also to have this gift). So her magic and power is something very altogether unseen. No “displays” of it. So it is very possible she has these “powers” now in the show just at the moment. It’s just things unseen. She has not been tested against anything yet. And maybe even her single minded focus is hindering as well.

Not sure how I feel, on the one hand the show has been a bit of a slow burn, lots of set up in the first few episodes. but on the other hand I'm really not a fan of how they've compressed the timeline here, the Rings haven't even been created yet and we have to cover so much before the end, I don't see how they'll have the time.
