Honestly as someone who was big into the battlefield scene and pvp at the time I have to switch Hardline and BF1. Hardline had some really on point gunplay, one of the better unlock systems, some very refreshing new gamemodes, good map flow, and a competitive scene around Rescue. Rescue was honestly like proto r6 siege and very fun for clan battles. BF1 instead had dice holding so much spite for tapfire meta that they introduced a really annoying spread, making lmgs reverse spead as they fired longer for no real reason, the laughable sweetspot mechanic on snipers, behemoths causing the side ahead in the first half of the match to loose for almost the first 6 months of release until they were nerfed, and tossed aside weapon customization entirely. Battlefield 1 was a slap in the face for someone who really has been playing since BF2 multiplayer was a thing and was for me where I felt the real decline to begin. To boot there were flow issues on about every release map that would make metro and locker blush. Oh and the special classes with increased hp that were annoying too, shoutout to ballroom blitz. Or the relentless tank camping on Sinai. Nobody in my Bf4 clan got premium for BF1 either as the factions added felt like cut content to the conflict. Then ttk 2.0 killed anyone even bothering to play it. Plus for the clans, there was the whole rent a server issue and how much more limited it was than past titles server hosting as far as game settings. Bf1 was frankly not the good title some remember it as.

I agree, Hardline was a more interesting title for me personally. It had some real cool stuff in there, but it also didn't feel like Battlefield at all, which is probably why the playerbase dropped HARD soon after launch. If only it wasn't a BF game....

So, from what i can see is that basically BF3 is DICE's MW2 and MW3 is infinity ward's BF4. What surprises me that nowadays both are are in the shadow of their former selves; although yes call of duty is still making a lot of cash and also both have 100+ round LMGs, this doesn't hide the fact that they are still souless cashgrabs that focused on the sucess of the Battle Royale flu instead of what made them truly great.

Ha, I still fondly remember old school DICE. Those guys in the 2000s and up to early 2010s were top notch. I never got into BF1 because I was instantly turned off with things like automatic weapons all over the place for everyone. So for me, the last good one was BF3. With that game, DICE pushed the FPS genre's envelope and dared others to be better. Unfortunately DICE couldn't do it themselves, anymore, either.

1 thing I would like to add on is all of the earlier battlefields were PC exclusives with the first console port being Battlefield Modern Combat based on BF2. The first Bad Company was a console only game and never came to PC including 1943. I would say 3 was a return to what first made them who they were without throwing away their newly obtained market being console gamers. Do I still miss mods. Yes. Do I still miss just doing LAN parties with bots. Yes. Is the older Refractor engine Battlefield games amongst my favorites. Yes. Would I still say BF3 and maybe 4 was peak BF. Yes. The Frostbite engine has been a great thing for Battlefield and bringing the sandbox warfare to console gamers. If only they were as open to that engine with their community as they were with Refractor. Not that they are anymore as they've threatened to sue people nowdays who mess with their refractor engine. Another thing I would like to add is that the older BF games felt like they encouraged teamwork more than the new titles. Especially now that they got ride of Hardcore that got ride of health regen, radar/mini-map, hud, ect.

worst part about BF4's campaign to me was the bots doing nothing, i understand with the points system, it'd suck if you couldn't unlock everything, but still, friendlies will just stand there and get shot at, even if you really, really need help

For some reason, I've completely lost hope in dice... After the majority of veteran devs left the studio, I had hoped that maybe the next generation would bring the same passionate game development innovation. Unfortunately, EA's pursuit of profit only adds to the disillusionment. Even if they decided to make Bad Company 3, it would likely be, at best, a mediocre shooter, simply a reskinned version of BF2042. My advice would be to completely eliminate battle royale, portal, and other trendy features. While they may seem like great ideas, I personally would prefer a campaign with a fully functional, bf classic styled game. However, I'm not sure if EA would ever allow this to happen, given their reputation for cash grabs, even if it means sacrificing game studios...

bf4 caspian border, operation firestorm, operation metro. I really enjoyed bf4 but the best times I had in it was playing the old bf3 maps when they added them. also, for anybody too young to have figured this out yet, as soon as something becomes mainstream it turns into dogshit
