"Triads" Doesn't reffer to the type of Triads everyone is thinking about, it means that the enemies are part of a cult which exact name I don't remember but had "Triad" on the name, they are even older than actual Triads since the origin of the cult goes back to the times of Heretic and Hexen, where they also were the enemies with the Serpent riders as leaders. And yes, John Romero did confirm this.

I want to make a game that consists of a hardcore platformer that has combat but no health system, getting hit only knocks you around like a balloon in used fan emporium. Of course it would have quick saving though, I'm not _that_ cruel.

I've been wanting to create a game that successfully combines the annoying trial and error of one of those "I want to be the guy" games with the dread and atmosphere of an actually good horror game. So far I've decided on "700 rooms that must all be beaten without dying and if you die they all come back in random order and with minor differences" for the annoying bit but I haven't put much thought into it after that.

Very true. I am playing Uncharted 2 right now. Although I really like the game, if I stand or walk around for more than 3 seconds, my character or a NPC will casually comment, "Hey, look at that chain hanging there in the corner. That looks interesting. Maybe I should climb up it." Seriously, the puzzles were designed for blind kids with Down Syndrome and even they bitch about how easy games are these days.

I kind of feel the same way about MachineGames' Wolfenstein games trying to have it both ways with portraying you as an unstoppable killing machine and then constantly breaking that up for Blaskowitz to make some mopey line about his hard knock life. Somber reflection only works if the game is built around it, which is why I adore What Remains of Edith Finch.

The original was supposed to be a sequel to Wolfenstein; it used the same engine as wolfenstein 3D. The original story was that three powerful cartoon-villanesque corporations had funded and guided Hitler; and with Hitler dead in the first game, they had to hatch a new evil plan to take over the world. I presume that's the triad. These plan was supposed to be that these three evil corporations tried to take over the world with nuclear weapons and improved of the V2 rocket; so triad could also be an obscure reference to the nuclear triad (ICBMs, SLBMs and strategic bombers). It ended up not being that, because id software changed their minds during development; Apogee basically said fuck it and removed any reference to wolfenstein and the nazis and reworked the game.
