Everyone is talking about how great Tillian's singing is, or how blessed we are to hear Mess' lyrics, or how much Swan carries this band, but can we please, pretty please, talk about Tim literally slaying the bassline for this song? Hands down one of the best bass parts for a DGD song
@kevinanderson78873 жыл бұрын
uh....what? transpose the bass part for this song and then do the same for "head hunter" and look at the difference. He's alting between partials on this song which is easy, but head hunter has a jazz bass feel running out licks. Harder to play, and hits harder in the feels to me.

@@cozytown5540 I dunno. As a music listener, and not a musician, I'd argue that the Mars Volta is a more bit esoteric; and arguably more of a "musician's band" in the same way that Yngwie Malmsteen is a guitarist's guitarist. TL;DR My musician friends are more excited about Mars Volta than DGD.

I'll always remember the first time I listened to this song. I was deployed and got the song shipped to me on CD. Loaded it up on my laptop and gave it a listen with my Dre Beats 1.0s. I don't think they will ever produce such a strong opener for a record. In my mind this song has always been one of their best designed works, from the harmonization, contrast between chorus vocals, and flawless use of instruments leaving no gaps in the sound (other than prechorus 2, but it sounds great as is). 2:46 onward always gets me in the feels. It punches and jams in a way that really seems above them, like they made a song better than the music they already make. It's weird and I'm probably the only person that thinks this but it will always be my favorite.
