To add the insanity missing from that statement, I read yesterday that Musk is planning a "SpaceEx" option for the Tesla Roadster, which is getting a re-invention. Get ready. They use the back seat room to build in cool air jet engines, that will allow the car to hover. It's not just for crowd thrills, it's incorporated into the car's handling and should INCREASE acceleration (of the world's fastest production car) and benefit handling by being able to change the load to the road on demand. Someone said "give it wings and it will fly" or words to that effect and Musk said "probably". Next time a sixteen year old with a VR gaming rig, a vap-pen and a week old driving license says to dad, "Hey , can my friends and I take your new car for a "spin" you'd better say NO. They won't be able to tell reality from Star Wars.

@@TriviaChallenge a normal deisel, ie 140bhp 350nm torque, can get over 1000miles per tank and take 3 mins to fill. So I'm not that bothered about range. More interested in charge time. 300miles will do me, if it can be filled in around 10 mins, any energy station. for home daily (overnight) charging a slower cycle, is fine for me, and a 200mile range wousl cover most of what Id need. However if range is what you need, this means you do many miles a day, so this is where I'd say charge time is greater than super late ranges. My petrol car atm only does 350miles per tank, so if your EV an do 400, and charge in the tiem it takes to drink an over priced coffee, that is when the ice is all but dead. Tbh 90% of peopel could live with a 150mile range and night charging, it's all about edutating people on what they actually need, and that the EV would be fine. We drive to France or Spain twice a year, bit I'd be happy to have an EV and just hire a diesel when needed. However I live in a location I can't park close to my house. So I can't charge. So no EV for me. Also I just got a new car, in November.

Gonna be alot of overtime if you run out of batteries with a load of equipment and it takes hours to charge for it to be mobile again. Plus electrics already have major heat issues, either with the batteries or with the motors. I wouldn't trust them to reliably pull the amount of load they're claiming. Look up issues with Tesla's and other EVs and you'll see this whole electric is more reliable BS is just that. Most EVs won't make it to 100,000 miles without a new battery pack which is often the most expensive thing in the car. For a Tesla that's at least 6,000$ plus installation. For this probably more still. Not knocking what you want, but an electric truck won't be ready for actual work duty for some time. I'm in exactly the same boat as you Dan. I want a camper (anywhere in the Expert to Master size range). And I don't mind if I have to make it myself. I reckon a master ZE plus a tesla pack is currently the most plausible route to a sufficiently useful vehicle, but integration is difficult as the manfacturers are not co-operating on such things. And it'll always be a compromise in comparison to something actually designed for a 150+ kWh batt (weight, battery space etc). It seems quite likely that one could put in a lot of effort to get it working about the same time something commercial comes out that is rather better and not _that_ much more expensive. We shall see.

@bmos026 жыл бұрын
The cost doesn't really make it worth it. All the panels on my house (much larger footprint than a truck/suv roof by a huge margin) would charge a 100kwh battery pack in 3 days. These vehicles use a LOT of power so attempting to regain charge via a solar array that small would be so small you might not even notice a difference. I just love this double cab pickup. My dream vehicle. I don't need that acceleration but that torque I could die for. With a roll cage to support a full-length roof rack, a lockable weatherproof steel canopy for the back. Highlift jack points, a bull bar, wires to protect the windscreen from branches. Perfect for Africa. Would I need a winch, perhaps not. And, by the way, that access door behind the rear seats is not unique. I have them on my 130 Land Rover but they are crude compared to what Rivian has achieved. A RHD version for Anglophone Africa PLEASE. Thumbs up guys, simply brilliant attention to detail.
