Thank you for making this series. Would have really loved to see more of the car in addition to all of the human experience and opinions. The driving out of the beach after getting stuck (which appears to be an after-though because it played as the credits rolled) was the most amount of in-car time we got. I get your team spent over a month in the car driving it, so I’m sure that’s not interesting to you…but setting the driving modes, POV angels, etc are what we want :-). I bet if you simply released a montage of raw driving footage, it would be your most watched video of the 5 you’ve made.

We passed these guys on FR24 in Malhuer National Forest at the end of August. Was a few days later before we realized we had seen Rivians in the Wild. I wish it had clicked, we would have stopped for a look instead of just slowing down as we drove by.

I saw a publicly sold rivian on the road yesterday and it looks fantastic without all of the disguise camouflage wrap all over it like the testers have. Saw a tester maybe a month or two ago in nor cal, that one I looked at up close since it was parked in the parking lot. Honestly looks like it’ll be a solid vehicle and should be a big seller (for those able to afford it). I love ALL vehicles (rotary’s, EV, muscle imports, etc) and I have to say that an EV vehicle is pretty exciting in the sense of instant power, next to no maintenance at all (Tesla is just tire rotation and change cabin air filter every 2 years…that’s it!)….I wasn’t sure about EV’s at first but i was sold after first time I drove one. It was incredibly SMOOTH driving. And I’ve never once worried about range anxiety. 99% of driving for people is within 25 miles of home. For the 1% of time you go on a long road trip, there’s PLENTY of fast chargers available for wherever you’re going. Yes, you might need to wait an extra 10-15 minutes compared to how long it takes to fill your tank with fuel, but if you’re driving that long in the first place, it’s best to stretch your body anyways and not risk health issues. Along with that, charging times are only going to get shorter and shorter. Also the costs to charge (at least for now) is irrefutable. What used to cost me $70 to fill the tank, now only costs $11-12 to fill the ‘tank’. A few extra minutes of my time is worth saving $50-60 bucks…just more money for fun when I get to where I’m going! With that said, excellent series you’ve done on this truck. I would have liked to have seen more technical information and things along those lines than just a really cool short film shot with nice scenery, dust particles in the sunset, etc

I have watched the entire series, I still know very little about the truck. How much battery did it use on the trails? How did it do at water crossings?? What was the millage between charges.

I don’t understand why all motors aren’t operating all the time. In some situations it’s seems like it’s operating like an open diff
@BAoxymoron3 жыл бұрын
They're fully independent axles, so there really isn't a concept of locked. The only reason you need a differential in a ICE car is is to allow you to distribute the power from a single motor to the 4 tires. When you have traction you usually want to distribute the forces evenly using an open differential, but in low traction scenarios you want a locking differential to make sure no power is wasted on a spinning tire. The Rivian has no need for that because it can handle distributing the forces using the power by deciding exactly how much voltage it needs to each motor, and this torque vectoring gives you way more finely tuned control over the amount of power sent to each wheel, than what could ever be provided using differentials.

How come no one has come up with a way to charge the batteries in the truck or car with out plugging them in?? I mean you gas powered car battery does not have to be plugged in,
@MTKARusty3 жыл бұрын
Is this comment for real? You understand that ICE car batteries don't require external charging because they're maintained by the alternator, right? Did you just think that ICE car 12v batteries magically generate power by themselves?
@sheltonsingletary24883 жыл бұрын
@@MTKARusty I know how a car battery works an how the charging system works. I have changes several altanators in my life. Have even changed a generator. An you made my point why can't they build a self charing system for electric cars.

@sheltonsingletary24883 жыл бұрын
Yes it real. An y'all just made my point. If you can charge a battery in a gas engine car then why not in an ev.
@rlm_hedge_manager20022 жыл бұрын
Rivian has regenerative braking, going downhill or braking, will put some charge back into the battery. Although what you’re asking for wouldn’t be possible, that’s because your gas powered vehicle uses gas to charge the (very very small) battery. So in a car that is fully electric, what energy can we use to create electricity?

The reason people are mad is because these guys had the perfect opportunity to give car enthusiasts a better look at cross country ev planning, performance and charging. If I'm going to buy one of these things I want to know how much charge the cooker takes. Think about the very end where the rivian gets stuck in the sand... Those are the things we need to know Do EVs perform worse in sand compared to gas cars? How long was it stuck? Instead a guy talked about how the sand hurts.
