This was a great interview... My dad is Nigerian and always suggested I should go into nursing.. I kept saying "It's not for me" I am more hands-on and like to take charge.. 10 years later I'm in school on my premedical path to becoming a doctor. He didn't see that coming. . lol

@LadyLynn27

It really depends on what prerequisites you have already taken, what you have left to take, and your work schedule and how many classes you can fit in while working. Its hard to give an exact time frame.

Joyce Sadiku oh ok yeah it was definitely different then..... I'm 2nd year and SGU has grown soooo much all the things I heard prior to coming has been so different in my experience...but I get it. Plus for us, living off campus is better than living on campus. I have heard of issues on campus living. Thanks for sharing your experience though.... it's nice to see fellow IMG progressing forward

Great video, a lot of new nurses experience what you experienced in the O.R where nurses who have been there longer are supportive. I just had a situation last night where my friend is a new grad and she just finished school asked the charge nurse a question and another nurse interrupted and said "Oh my God, how did they let you pass nursing school not know that" & as someone who will be in Nursing school next year and I was in that situation I wouldn't feel comfortable asking questions I was just have to ask Jesus to take the handlebars LOL.
@BlackGirlWhiteCoat
@BlackGirlWhiteCoat 6 жыл бұрын
Tre Mason LOL no please please ask questions! From my experience in the OR, there are some very nice nurses who are very willing to teach! It is always better to ask than to guess, especially in that kind of setting. It sucks that our young nurses have to feel intimidated like this, but I know there are older nurses willing to take the newbies under their wings 🤗

Any advice I have been a CNA few years i was looking into LVN I always wanted to be army doctor would you suggest me doing a RN BSN or for me just to major in kinesiology and go to DO/MD school there’s so many options I’m looking more into DO schools and Caribbean schools to. I do feel as being a nurse I can’t make Educational decisions because of the scope of practice barriers.
@BlackGirlWhiteCoat
@BlackGirlWhiteCoat 5 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, as a CNA you have so many great experiences already under your belt I'm sure! That will look great on your med school applications. As far as RN BSN vs Kinesiology I'd say going for the nursing degree would make sense if you plan on working as a nurse so some period of time before going into med school. If you don't plan on working as a nurse and you're super interested in kinesiology, then I'd say go for that.

How is it that she didn’t have Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology and even Pharmacology, as a core backbone of Nursing. Was she an Lvn. I ask this because these are the core foundation of Nursing, not to mention Medicine itself. During Nursing School, Bsn, I’ve never heard of failure of a course being acceptable. There’s no leeway, they don’t work with you. The program is extremely strict and I agree with these standards. Lives are at stake. The Nurse is the eyes and ears of the Dr. And many times provide oversight management to prevent errors in care to keep patients safe from harm. The Nurse is taught to anticipate or know what the patient will or should need to treat the disease process, and to know when the treatment plan deviates from this. I would never want to have a Nurse take care of me or my family that failed and the University “worked” with them, Never mind an MD. Nurses and Dr’s are fundamentally taught differently when it comes to treating the patient as a whole. Yet, the main difference is that Nurses are taught to also to think like the Md. Ex when calling an MD with a list of symptoms, they should know what treatment to expect and request if the right course is not being followed. In this case, it seems as though she doesn’t have any real Nursing foundation, which would create an easier transition Bridging to MD. I’m just having a difficult time with her transition to Md. Why was she not accepted to at least 1 Us schools. MCAT Scores are more important than the desire to be a Doctor. Its designed to assess problem solving, critical thinking, written analysis and knowledge of scientific concepts and principles. If her scores were too low after repeating the testing, then perhaps she’s on the wrong course. I also noticed she didn’t have one good thing to say about the Only university that accepted her.

Surface level, you don’t understand why you see the signs and symptoms.... This statement is incredibly opposite than everything that I and coworkers have learned and are still learning. Perhaps Nursing Education is different in your state. I was taught the Complete Disease Process, Pathophys and treatment. From the Krebs Cycle, Molecular cell level to Disease Process. What a waste of time if you weren’t taught this way! Sounds like , based on her Nursing education, she should have done premed instead!

Currently considering the Caribbean, we’re you worried about the financial side of going to live in another country?
@joyceidehen6044
@joyceidehen6044 5 жыл бұрын
My school provided financial aid through FASFA, so i just took out loans. But not all Caribbean schools can qualify to give FA to their students, so please make sure you do research ahead of time. I took the majority of my pre-reqs at Houston Community College to save money. I believe American med schools PREFER if you take the courses at a 4 year university however, if you can strive to get A's at a community college then you may still be competitive as an applicant, but at a Caribbean med school it definitely doesn't matter lol.
