I'm just getting into Risk of Rain 2 and your videos are very helpful. I'm guessing trying to get stage 20 on monsoon with commando while not even having unlocked all items is a bad idea, because I keep getting one-shot and sometimes I really can tell that I'm losing just because I'm not getting any good items synergy going. Basically most of my playtime in solo is just Commando - I've played Acrid once and instantly netted me a loop once run. From playing a lot of rogue-likes the main thing I can say about this game so far is, that the game feels stacked against, with a lot of dying from a singular attack after having your balls tickled by a wisp. PS: Blind Pest (flying) are hell as commando, even if you have enough dps to quickly kill them, they spawn in flocks and one of them hitting you already takes 1/4th of your health on a balanced run

@@rndThursday I switched to Engineer for the second time ever and now I just beat the Prime Meridian first try and one-shot him three times in a row, thanks to the item that does the Happy Wheels Course Clear sound, also obliterated for the first time (my bad as Commando, skipped over obliterate trying to get 20 stages, but died right after)

I think its also worth considering what items survivors don't need as well as the ones they do, like rex doesn't actually need to hard focus healing items like other survivors do because 2 of his best skills heal him, and your m1 does too. Rex's M1 also heals for 60% of the damage the third shot deals meaning anything that increases that damage also increases the healing recieved. Rex can really get by on runs without prioritizing healing better than any other survivor which is really unique and kind of interesting you can win by ignoring healing.

I didn't actually try yet, but many of the new item reworks sounds like godsends to Commando. Especially Noxious Thorn sounds like bless, considering the guy's problem in Eclipse mostly deters to him having to target focus (which is, imo, why Phase Round and Collapse are underrated things for him, because they both can relieve bad item runs). Railgunner and Huntress are my jam though, although I do enjoy every survivor.

My top three are bandit, engi, and artificer in that order. Also totally agree with the loader take, I’ll get to a point in my loader runs where there absolutely no challenge so I just grapple onto an enemy and watch loader spin for about a minute just to feel somewhat entertained.

I think i have the LEAST hours put into loader, the lack of fall damage just makes impacts not feel REAL cause loader doesnt even act like she just went from 300mph to 0mph, like theres no slight crouch or anything to show that she even felt the sudden stop

As seeker, You can stay in sojourn forever if you buy the correct perks. repulsion armor, the Medkits, and the white tier teddy bear (optional but it helps). You’d probably need to get lucky with a fabricator or play with the artifact, but it definitely still works. Very OP. There is still power creep and eventually it can keep up if you don’t have enough, but it’s surprisingly effective. About 5 repulsion armor and a couple medkits should do it unless you are looping.

Engi mains rise up! I also felt the same about him. Its just so easy to ball out of control. I do think the beginning he feels like B tier being so slow, but just even just 2 items. Shuriken and one of the bands. Suddenly your S tier power. And thats just one example. Everything just goes crazy with the lil turret buddies.

Tbh I have your Loader opinion about Mercenary. All you need to make Mercenary unkillable is a singular Lysate Cell and then pick up a few Fuel Cells (transforming them into more Lysates), and a couple (really only need 2, maybe 3) Bandoliers. This will give Mercenary essentially an infinite number of uses on his ability where he turns completely invincible and dashes between enemies, slashing each of them. Just keep spamming the button and watch as your health never falls and the enemies get slashed into oblivion. That being said, I haven't tried Loader yet (just got the game about a week ago and just unlocked Loader last night). I'll give him a go when I get home from work; my personal favorites are (in this order) False Son, Engineer, Void Fiend.

I think Mul-T is underrated on the looping list, high hp and damage, compatible with every item outside the usual trash items as long as you aren't playing the wrong abilities. Also, Double rebar power mode is extremely underrated, your primary is a band proc, your canister is decent with bleed, it has a .5 proc coefficient, but it can constantly be reset through canister spam which power mode resets all charges of

Yea you can't speak on MUL-T's behalf if you run re-tool even once. I'm sorry. Take off nailgun. Use only dual missiles or dual rebar with power mode bunny-hop cycling (resets all nade cds). He's Thanos with the buffed Luminous Shot on those and really good at stun-stacking and hp/armor stacking.

*talking ab e8 list bc i play e8 no looping no lunars exclusively* i get that youre biased and dont think commando is very fun but placing him below rex on the eclipse 8 tier list is just genuinely insane and flat wrong. a bad run on commando is better than that same bad run on rex 100% of the time. not only does rex's kit get gutted by eclipse, but he doesnt even fit into any good build types because of his low fire rate, 0.5 proc coefficient, and nonexistent band proc. commando is not even weak at all, hes outclassed generally at what he does well by nail mult, captain, and stationary engi on an average run, but on the right run he scales better than all of them. has a higher proc coeff than mult and captain, an actual mobility skill unlike captain and engi, a fall damage cancel unlike all 3 of them, and is still mobile while attacking unlike mult in power mode. i would still put him low, yes, but above rex. also merc is by NO MEANS an S tier character, let alone TOP 3 above bandit and void fiend. thats a story for another time and totally crazy. id put him one spot above commando lmfao.

Think in the emphasis of E8, Merc is probably alongside those survivors just due to Expose-tech (unless they removed that, which they shouldn't). I tend to like beating the RNG on E8 but there are a few survivors that are more lenient to the punishment of a bad macro, and a tech-mastered Merc is one of them. Agreed on Commando. Might even be better now with the item reworks, but I haven't played yet since a few weeks back. Realistically no survivor is really bad in E8 anyhow, even REX (just...worse, for the wrong reasons imo).

@@RazakelKairo1994 i also like beating rng on e8, just recently i finished beating the game 15 times in a row rotating survivors without losing (did all of them except chef). and even in that context, merc is just less consistent than multiple other characters below him. acrid is more consistent with poison, bandit is more consistent with desperado, arti is super consistent bc of her execute and her ability to just float in the sky and not get hit, engi is consistent because he has synergies with like every item in the game. merc is only good at 2 things but he does them very well, AOE and mobility. he struggles HEAVILY with single target damage though, only really fits into proc builds (not good at stacking bleed and not a super strong band proc-er), and he doesnt have any of the survivability that other melee survivors have (ie. loader and acrid have passive armor and increased health scaling as well as healing/barrier on their m1s)

How is commando the easiest to learn when he has one of the worst base kits in the game? Huntress too; I wasn't aware of agile's power, and arrow rain is kind of ass. These kits make you go slow in a game most newcomers believe you have to go fast in.
