There is 2 style of nasi dagang: 1. Kelantanese style : Brownish rice, with sweeter curry 2. Terengganu style : White rice, almost like japanese rice texture with herbally taste from ginger and fenugreek accompanied with curry(commonly Tuna) The one u had is, Kelantanese style 😊

I wish you can try the original Nasi Dagang, the Terengganu version. it will suit the Japanese palate so much. the 'curry' is almost red, dark orange color not brown. the rice is so creamy, a bit sticky. the best rice dish in Malaysia. unfortunately it's a bit hard to find outside of Terengganu. mostly are Kelantan version

Diam la bodo...tu pun nak jadi isu ke? Dah terang2 ada 2 versi...habistu semua Nasi Kerabu & Nasi Kukus yg jual kat Ganu tu aku boleh kata TAK ORI la kan? Sebab bukan orang Kelantan yg buat...aku syak natang ni ada keturunan INDON...biasanya Indon je jenis otak udang macam ni...

Nasi dagang is always served with fish and fresh veg cuts which may look like pickle. Unlike nasi kerabu which is swrved with more variety of side dishes e.g meat or fish. I guess by now u know tat these dishes r from east coast of penisular, namely Terengganu & Kelantan states. Glad u guys like the dishes so much.

A little bit about that nasi dagang. It’s reddish from mixing in some whole grain red glutinous rice. That gives it a nuttiness and slight sticky texture. IMO that stickiness brings it closer to medium and short grain rice commonly used in Japan. The tuna gives a lot of flavor to the sauce. In some ways not that different from use of bonito in dashi. So the foundation of umami from tuna is there.

5:07 Nasi dagang and Nasi kerabu is originated from the East Coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu For Nasi dagang, different state have different style. Kelantan rice use mixture of different rice which makes the reddish colour Terengganu rice is normal white colour rice mixed with fenugreek seeds. Its more common to find Kelantan version, as Terengganu version is more exclusive and more delicious 😊 Nasi dagang eaten with fish gulai (malay curry) and the fish used is skipjack tuna, same type of fish to make bonito. Being close to the sea, Kelantan is known for Budu (anchovy sauce) while Terengganu is known for for Keropok Lekor (fish sausage/crackers) among others. You can also find unique dish such as Ketupat Sotong during squid season - sticky rice stuffed inside squid. Kelantan version is sweet, Terengganu version is savoury
