Oh my gosh, I'm honestly just in awe you were able to write on a pit stop. I don't think I've learned yet how to switch to writer mode that quickly. Props to you

It helps that I was definitely brainstorming while I drove!! And that I'm so far into the revision process with this story -- I can almost pick it up anywhere!

This was really fun for me to watch and see the small American towns I have heard so much about and it was lovely to see all the bookshops, each one seemed to have their own personality. From my own experience driving around the UK probably the best place I stopped off at was a place just before the border between Wales and England, there I visited Raglan Castle, spectacular views and a dog friendly site!

I am such a “get there ASAP” person but I was so inspired by this video to take it slow next time I have the opportunity! It was such a cool idea to make it fun with the points/words on/off! But I have no idea how you wrote random places. I am so anxious I could never 😂

I might have a brother moving there! So if that's the case, I'll definitely be visiting more often!! :) Getting to explore all the bookshops in an area is such a great goal bahaha.

I love this! I feel like I often try to write in the vacuum that is my apartment, but it's good to remember how much inspiration comes from pushing outside the boundaries of your home/hometown! I'm definitely riffing off this idea during NaNo. My book takes place at a lighthouse on the Oregon coast, and I had already planned on dragging my husband to some lighthouses in November, but now I think I'll gamify my trip! Surely there are roadside monuments (other than lighthouses) on/near the coast, and I'd love to spend more time stopping at those attractions! This was great, as always! Glad you had a fun time!

As a native Memphian, it made me so happy to see you stop by novel.! It and Burke's are both beloved local bookshops, so you really couldn't make a bad choice there. Hopefully you can hit up Burke's if/when you ever return!

God I'm so jealous of Americans who can road trip. I've got fab memories of the summer we did the entire florida coast on holiday but in the UK our road trips are motorway ( freeway) based and the stopping options are service stations, like a mini mall with a gas station and starbucks and fast food joints. For your sign off between the two, could you use something that's not English. My mother and i use goodbye or goodnight in my grandfather's native language for example... so that could work or like a call and response type Marco Polo. Thanks for the vlog. Looking forward to seeing the retreat. Beccas vid whetted my appetite. X

It was SO cute!! I missed it barely but I think they were having a book festival in Little Rock right around the time. Wordsworth had a really cool display of the authors who were taking part. Also you’re making me feel better for thinking it was awful bahahah. I’d love to visit those two places again but don’t ever wanna do that drive. 😂

I love that you got to go to so many indie bookstores! It was so cool seeing that. What a great idea for a road trip! The small town vibes made it look so cozy. You got some amazing books! I love it! I’m glad you had a successful road trip. Now I want to go to a bunch of indie bookstores when I do a road trip with my best friends. 😂 Also, so glad you got THE ODDS! It’s so cute! I loved reading it. I almost picked up SHADOW SISTER when I was at B&N a few weeks ago! 😍

The last one looks a ton like the Jacksonville, FL Chamblin Book Mine! It's an amazing bookstory with a lot of vintage and second-hand books. If you're ever in the area, I would sincerely suggest checking it out. I found multiple disney art books, some classic novels, every book is sorted by genre and author (not the Dewey decimal system though) and they even have some signed copies of particular books in the front! Not to mention there are books stacked from floor to ceiling. My favourite part is there are two in Jacksonville-- the second one has a built in cafe!

I moved across the country in 2016 and wrote a blog about various roadside attractions, museums, and filming locations in all 48 contiguous states, and one of my stops was Casey, IL. They seem to have added a few things since I was there... or there were so many World's Largests there that I missed a few. That's very possible. I also stopped at what I think is the Gone with the Wind filming location that was on your itinerary you showed towards the beginning. Your video is giving me the travel bug. I might need to plan a road trip with more bookstores. ... oh, and if you are ever in Jacksonville, FL and want to be overwhelmed, check out Chamblin Bookmine. That place is insane!

Looks like a fun trip. You probably passed by where I live in Indiana(I'm 30 minutes to the Ohio boarder) and on the road to Columbus. I'm a mix in traveling, it depends on how much time I have to get someplace, how long I'm there and if I have a timetable on returning. We also can't really go on long car rides because one of my sons gets car sick. I'm hoping he's grown out of it since we're going home to NYC for Thanksgiving and driving.

I don't know if it is true or not. I heard that woman crossing the border out of Texas and other states with abortion bans have to prove they are not pregnant. So I hope that isn't the case and I hope that you didn't have to deal with any such nonsense on your trip. It shouldn't be a worry or a stress when crossing the boarder to wonder if someone is going to make you prove your not trying to get an abortion. Such nonsense.
