ERROR/CORRECTION: At 04:12, I talk about how guitarist Joni Lahdenkauppi is playing an Ibanez RG7 guitar. While he IS playing an RG, it's a 6-string model, and not a 7-string. Maybe I should headbang less to see more clearly? 😎 Sorry for getting it wrong.

Kalmah - The Groan of Wind, that song is so relevant now as it is talking about a pandemic. It's actually about the H5N1 "the bird flu", but change that to covid-19 and it's almost prophetic... Oh and it's an awesome song too.

Yeah it's strange that so many awesome bands come from Scandinavia. I think it's a combination of good musical education, as most people leave school actually knowing how to play an instrument and the weird fact that metal is extremely popular in those countries and routinely metal bands hit the national charts there. I think I should seriously consider moving there, good healthcare, social services and standard of living as well....

man, theres so many great melodeath bands out there, especially from nordic countries. im not sure if youre familiar with myGRAIN or just happened to see that they share a guitarist and threw that in there, but if youre not, you should definitely check them out, too, theyre fantastic. and someone unique imo. whereas most bands go for a dark melancholy sound, they often have synth lines that give it an energetic, almost uplifting vibe. check out the song trapped in an hourglass. (prefect followup to bloodred hourglass... ;) ) another great melodeath band to check out is in mourning. plenty of good shots of gear in their video black storm.
