One interesting fun fact that might tickle you, Marco Hietala from Nightwish produced some of their albums (around the Skyforger era) and helped refine Tomi Jotusen's clean vocals for those albums and live performances

They also regularly tour with Amorphis. I think the europe leg next year will be with Amorphis and Turmion Kätilöt. They toured...I think it was 2013..with Amorphis and Arch Enemy as support, which was probably a bit too heavy for the regular Nightwish audience when I remember the reactions ^^ And Marco also helped producing some Delain albums as well, which is a great band by the way ;)

@@brothernemiel6465 Dunno about it being too heavy for the Nightwish crowd. I was at one of the concerts (in Luxembourg, it was 2015 btw) and the fans had a blast with all three bands. Only problem was, that I had taken my then 9-year-old daughter with me and while she loved Amorphis (and of course, Nightwish), I could have prepared her better for Arch Enemy, so it ended with us leaving the main concert hall during that gig and only returning to it, when Nightwish started. I'm not sure if next year, we're already at a state where live concerts are a thing again, but I'd love to repeat that experience with my daughter (and she has already seen Turmion Katilöt opening for Beast in Black, so this time, everything should be fine :D)

I confess that I've never been a fan of harsh vocals, since my taste has always leaned toward power/symphonic/classic metal. But lately I've been slowly warming up to stuff like Arch Enemy, Immortal, and Dimmu Borgir. This is my first time listening to Amorphis, and it definitely sounds like something I could listen to every now and then!
@Garbox804 жыл бұрын
I wasn't a fan of growls also, but I've liked Amorphis since the mid 90's. Those clean vocals balance it out so nicely. And now of course Floor's growling bits and Jinjer are on my radar, but Arch Enemy (at least what I've heard from them) is still a bit too much. Music wise great, but all growls makes it too heavy to listen to regularily. One BIG plus in Tomi's growls is that I can easily understand most of what he's singing.
@Eluarelon4 жыл бұрын
I was the same, though I stopped listening to metal around the time Grunge became a thing ( I basically stopped listening to music completely, so it's not Kurt Cobain's fault^^). Didn't return to it until 2013 I think, and the first two albums that I listened to were Stone Sour's House of Gold and Bones part 1 and Amorphis' Circle. Both albums completely changed my mind and in the meantime, I can't even explain to myself that there was that time when I couldn't even listen to thrash metal because even Metallica's Master of Puppets sounded like Noise to my ears. today I love harsh vocals though my preference is when you have them mixed with clean vocals because of the dynamics that creates. Which probably explains why Tomi Joutsen and Mikael Stanne are my favorite singers as of right now.
@Xydroos3 жыл бұрын
Maybe try Wintersun "Sons of winter and stars" and "Time", both have quite "clean" harsh vocals where it's easier hear wording behind it. When you have listened more harsh vocals you ears start to pick up more words and it gets easier to "listen" lyrics. Well both song are good without lyrics, so if can't understand everything they work as instruments also. PS with lyrics i mean singing where you can understand wording.

Growing up in the 70s and listening to the classic rock bands back then, I've got to say Amorphis are one of the best bands I've heard in the past 20 years. These guys were a great group to talk to, and not many people were rushing them. So I got to talk to each person. That was awesome. Also, on that NA Tour, until that day, Delain’s drummer Joey had been missing because he didn’t have his paperwork done properly to enter Canada. So Jan from Amorphis was filling in for Delains’ set. That very night, 3/4 through the concert, Joey made it!!!! Charlotte Wessels (Delain) told us Joey’s story of a week of HELL of staying at hostel’s, airports, taking multiple flights, fighting his way to catch up with the tour, and everyone got the news mid show that he was there! He walked out, and the crowd went insane! Anyways, it was a good show, and the last one I went to before everything has shut down.

The line up consisted of Lonnie Fletcher - vocals, Nick Ellingson - Guitar, Jody Lewis - Bass, Charles Parker - Keys, and Cliff Saunders - Drums. The band played the east coast and opened for acts like Dream Theater, Pat Travers, and headlined several A clubs. The band recorded 2 demo tapes and were included in the CD compilation "Metal Molten Monsters 1" created by Keith Menser of Seigen records. Their original music was compared to Queensryche, Dream Theater, and Fates Warning. The band finally disbanded in 1993 after Heavy Metal music diminished with rap and grunge taking the front.

Fantastic reaction Tank. Amorphis have been consistently one of my fave bands since I first heard them in 1996. I completely agree with you about Tomi’s vocals, his growls are so rich and deep but then his clean vocals are so melodious and melancholic and emotive, it’s no surprise that they strike a sensitive chord. You may find that you get the same “feels” from the song Silent Waters. The Bee is undoubtedly one of their best songs, and that riff is incredible and gives you goosebumps. What I love with Amorphis is the multi layered sound and combined genres almost, at times they sound like death metal, folk metal, prog rock, symphonic metal respectively, yet it all blends perfectly. So many amazing songs to choose from that it’s hard to just pick a handful, but I’d try : - Silent Waters House Of Sleep Sky Is Mine You I Need Oh and Tank, Orden Ogan awaits! 🤘🏻🙂👍🏻

Very nice audio edit. Since there's a little bit of a live vibe in it, I assume there's some of the live recording in the mix as well? When we make live videos with my band we record both the room sound and everything straight from the mixer to get some of that rougher live feel to the mix. Elias Lönrot went to eastern Finland to gather old poets and songs and put folklore to books 1800 something. Never really gotten familiar with centuries or inches or foots but hey i know them :D Good job man as always

Ohh, one of my all-time favourite bands, I’m so excited to see them in November! Have you heard their latest album, Halo? It’s such a beautiful record! If you haven’t, I think you’d enjoy ‘On The Dark Waters’; Tomi sounds incredible (as always), and had a good mix of harsh and clean vocals! Plus, the video has good gear shots!

Pretty sure that's a didgeridoo you heard. Features on other songs too. They do use some unusual instruments. Electric sitar for example. Loved this band for years. One of my favourites! It's their 30th anniversary this year :)

Thank you for paying attention to Amorphis. This band is so underrated. More people should know about them. 🤘

Great band, I saw them live as a warm-up for Nightwish in Vienna. The singer had a really great microphone, looked like a part of a tree. Like Groot 😁 "Silver bride" is also an excellent song of theirs. Well, just doing small talk, actually I am here to watch Tank❤😋😍

You should check the live clip again, Tank! He does things a bit different during the "Crawls inside the chosen skull" line, and it's worth experiencing imo. Also, the album trilogy with Eclipse, Silent Waters and Skyforger cover Kalevala as a whole(if I remember correctly).
